    Movies that killed a career

Ford's career has been in the toilet ever since all the articles naming him as the 100% Can't Fail Box Office Draw. IIRC, that was about two weeks before one of the bigger bombs in his career, The Devil's Own. Since then, he did Six Days Seven Nights with Anne Heche and David Schwimmer (two winners there...), Random Hearts, Hollywood Homicide, and K-19 The Widowmaker. The only two moneymakers in that time were Air Force One and What Lies Beneath. That's not a good run from a guy who has 6 of the top 10 grossing movies of all time and had a 20-year streak of movies that were critical or commercial successes including The Fugitive, Patriot Games, three Indiana Jones movies, three Star Wars movies, Witness, Blade Runner, and Apocalypse Now. If anything, I'd say that What Lies Beneath probably helped him because it helped break the goody-goody stereotype that he's had for years.

    Movies that killed a career

"The Long Kiss Goodnight" came out like *right* after "Cutthroat Island" and it starred Samuel L. Jackson who was still a strong name to have in a movie after "Pulp Fiction" immortalized his badass brotha image. The movie was a success but Geena did not receive the same amount of pub that she had received for CI. She didn't do any other movies until "Stuart Little" came out in 1999 so 3 years had passed for her. In all honesty, a mild hit like Long Kiss Goodnight isn't as big a story in Hollywood as a bomb like Cutthroat Island that destroyed a studio (Carolco Pictures) and broke up a marrage (CI star Davis and director Renny Harlin).

Depends on what class he's taking a final for... Southern Miss's tougher classes tend to be in the hard sciences, business classes, and the Polymer Science curriculum. Most of the Art and Liberal Arts classes tend to have inflated grades, as there are a LOT of people who graduate with honors (3.5 or above) in those disciplines.

Bored's College Football Pick 'Em - Bowl Season

I'd prefer to penalize him because I don't want to win the Big South title game AND the Oxycotton Bowl by forfeit. His ass BETTER turn in his picks though.

I think they're confusing North Texas's OOC schedule with Southern Miss when they talk about how hard it is. North Texas- Texas, Florida A&M, Baylor, Colorado Southern Miss- Nebraska, Alabama, California, UL Lafayette And Almond hits a 47 yard strike... Considering that Southern Miss's offense typically makes Eli Manning's New York Giants look like Peyton Manning's Indianapolis Colts, this is going to be a long night for the Mean Green.

I'm excited, Iggy, but that's because I'm a Southern Miss alum and want to see them kick the shit out of the Sun Belt's "best".

And Southern Miss strikes first with a Dustin Almond TD pass to the tight end... If North Texas doesn't get much better than they were in the first series, this could be a long night for the Mean Green.

In all fairness, Texas is playing the worst BCS team outside of the Big East.

I'm going to watch tomorrow if only to see my alma mater get its first bowl win since 2000. (They got bitchslapped by Utah in the 2003 Liberty Bowl, lost to Oklahoma State in the 2002 Houston Bowl, didn't go to a bowl in 2001, and beat TCU in the 2000 Mobile Bowl.)

    Other College Football Coaching News

Well, it IS Ole Miss, so they sink there naturally until the next generation of Mannings come along. Seriously, though, Cutcliffe wasn't a great coach although I feel it was shitting to fire him for one 4-7 season considering that they had the school's best season in 30 years last season. Erickson, though, is a good enough coach and desperately needs to get out of San Fran considering that the team's owner is more concerned with pinching pennies than winning. It will be interesting to see an SEC with coaches Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Steve Spurrier, Dennis Erickson, Phillip Fulmer, Houston Nutt, and Tommy Tuberville all involved. (Mike Shula isn't distinguishing himself, Sly Croom needs about 2 more years in order to build a I-A quality team at Mississippi State considering what Jackie Sherrill left behind, and no one cares about Kentucky or Vandy.)

    Oliver Stone says you're stupid

Then you just misunderstand the GENIUS of the film. Remember it's OUR fault that the movie isn't entertaining not the guy who made it. I think the "It's the audience's fault" defense has its roots in director Michael Cimino's legendary high-budget disaster "Heaven's Gate" in 1980 The movie cost $44 million, which is a LOT more than it sounded like considering that the average budget in 1980 was probably closer to $5-10 million. This cost had spiraled out of control because Cimino was nuts, as the original budget was supposed to be $2 million. Among the craziness- Cimino didn't like the set of the town that was built, as he felt certain things were too close together, and had it completely torn down and rebuilt for $1.2 million. Cimino shot 1.5 million feet of film and processed 1 million feet of it. Cimino was such a perfectionist that, by the fifth day of production, they were already four days behind schedule. The original cut of the film was somewhere between 4.5 and 5.5 hours but, under intense studio pressure, Cimino cut it down to 90 minutes. This film is the reason that the Humane Society has to monitor all filmed media in the US, as there were proven to be cockfights, decapitations of chickens, and torture of horses on the set. The millions of dollars in losses from this film almost caused United Artists to file bankruptcy, although the new James Bond film "For Your Eyes Only" saved them the next year. They were still sold to MGM a few years later, though. This film destroyed Cimino's career, as he went from winning a Best Director Oscar for The Deer Hunter to being out of the movie business for 4 years. Coincidentally, one of Cimino's few projects after Heaven's Gate was directing and co-writing "Year of the Dragon" with Oliver Stone, who wasn't a director yet but, instead, an Academy Award winning screenwriter. (He won in 1978 for adapting Midnight Express from William Hayes' biography.)

  20. The "psychic fights" between Cartman and the psychic detectives. Whenever a Scanner uses their powers, a sound like "nana-nana-nana-nana" is played over the soundtrack. That's the noise Cartman et all were making in the fight.
  21. I didn't bring it up in here but I spotted that one when I was watching it with my sister. Just watched Scanners this weekend for the first time in about a year, too.
  22. Drawn Together was funny but not as great as last week. Toot getting into a fight with Captain Morgan then carriage-jacking the King made the episode.

This Week in College Football 12/2 - 12/4

I find it funny that everyone pisses and moans about what Out Of Conference teams that Auburn played this this season considering that Strength Of Schedule was INTENTIONALLY pulled from the rankings this year because USC threw a shit-fit over missing out on the Sugar Bowl.
