What does your team need to do in the offseason?
teke184 replied to therealworldschampion's topic in Sports
New Orleans Saints- 1. Bring in some DBs to plug holes in the defensive backfield 2. Hire a sports psychiatrist (or an exorcist) to fix the team's attitudes and performances 3. Hire a new defensive coordinator 4. Consider swapping Aaron Brooks for a QB who doesn't suffer from rectal-cranial inversion. (Head-up-the-ass syndrome) -
... I was hoping to win but not like THAT. Fuuuuck...
-
Holy FUCK... I didn't realize I actually missed so many picks this week.
-
Just like last year. Everyone came in saying that the Tigers would win it all. Wrong set, though.
-
Abbott is on there because he meets the basic eligibility requirements. Everyone who played X number of years in the league gets on the ballot at least once, although they'll probably get voted off unless something makes them REALLY stick out.
-
Because there will be a year where the damn thing works perfectly (see Miami vs. Ohio State in 2002) and then someone will bitch about how they should have won it all by winning the Sugar/Rose/Orange/Fiesta Bowl instead of having to win in the Super-Duper-It's-Not-A-Playoff-I-Swear Championship game afterwards. The closest we'll ever get to that will be every major conference expanding to 12 teams and having a championship game like the MAC, SEC, and Big 12 have, which gives a team an extra game to raise their profile or send them back to the middle of the pack. The ACC and Conference USA will be doing that next year. The Big Ten could easily do this by inviting one team (Notre Dame is a likely choice). The PAC Ten could do this by inviting two teams, but they'd probably be stealing from other BCS conferences. (Colorado was one of the teams mentioned in the past in this scenario) The Big East might as well break apart or sever the football side completely from the basketball side because, otherwise, they'll have severe internal problems that will keep them from expanding. (The Big East has always been a basketball conference and they won't expand again unless a team brings a good basketball program with them, like Memphis.)

OK, now THAT is funny. "I whupped... Batman's ASS!"

Ryno and Boggs are shoe-ins. Dawson, Blyleven, Parker, etc. are iffier, but mainly because of the voters' tendencies to only elect 2-3 people per Hall class. I feel that Lee Smith SHOULD be in, but that the inherent bias of relievers is against him. (Eckersley got in because he was a good starter before he became The Man as a closer in Oakland)

Alexander - Well, it's apparently a pile of shit.

From what I can remember: Gia Foxfire Mojave Moon Pushing Tin Original Sin Taking Lives Didn't she have some brief nippage in Hackers? It may just be my memory playing tricks on me though. -
Yeah, and I'll have to send you a nice fruit basket or something because of it.

Is this the worst year WWF/E has had since 1995?

Hey, I'd rather watch Sable and Torrie jiggle that Piper and Hogan. Me too, but none of the above really belong on a PPV to begin with. -

Yeah... there's nothing more worthless than a bikini contest between two women only known for appearing NUDE in Playboy. Once you've seen the cuffs and collars there, the bikini becomes less of a selling point. -

Honestly, I think that is the same kind of private contest that Sylvain Grenier won. It's the only way to explain why he's still employed. -

Quality-wise, this year may not be the worst in 10 years. HOWEVER, it certainly feels like it because they've fucked up on so many levels that there's little hope that they'll turn things around anytime soon. Eddy and Benoit title reigns were always seen as ace-in-the-hole solutions. Those are now gone. In addition, we've got: 1. Bradshaw becoming Smackdown champ as a "Fuck you" to MSNBC for firing him over his "Sieg Heil" routine in Germany. 2. Angle as a near-cripple and now a political asshole in league with Undertaker, with both of them effectively killing Smackdown as a viable show. 3. Triple H as the focus on RAW, but that's nothing new. 4. The uber-push of Orton, which no one was particularly happy with to begin with, ending with a job to Trips within one month of winning the title. 4a. As part of screwing up the Orton-Trips feud, they went with Trips et all staying as heels rather than the youth movement of Evolution rising up and kicking out both Trips and Flair. While it would have meant babyface Trips, it would have made a LOT more sense. 5. Massive roster cuts, including a few of the company's cult favorites. 6. Bungee-talent from OVW. Big tall guy shows up one day as Mordecai, gets a PPV match, gets sent back to OVW. (It's also happened to Matt Morgan, amongst others) 7. Cheap-heat Arab heels This is not Katie Vick level crap BUT it's the kind of thing that kills faith in the product, which is already on a low ebb. Anyone else want to add any crap from this year to distinguish it? -
This gave me a thought... is there any chance that Frank Miller could get hired by the WWE? I'd LOVE to see a storyline where Steph becomes a strung-out whore who sells out Trips for a shot of heroin. [/Gratiuitous Daredevil Born Again storyline references]

Fact- McDonalds was once sued by someone claiming they'd gotten HIV from a McRib. I'm not sure if that one got laughed out of court or not, though.

The hard-and-fast way to recognize one is apparently the participation of Russell Crowe... -
I'm soured on South Florida because they got talked up huge when they joined Conference USA and they never played up to all the hype. The only reason anyone is willing to deal with a developing program like that is that Tampa is a big media market, although I'm not sure anyone IN Tampa gives a shit about the team.
-
It's in Tampa. The reason it's this late in the season is that a hurricane rescheduled it.
-
Don't underestimate South Florida's ability to fuck itself over in the long run by beating Pitt and giving the bid to Syracuse.

I think it's more Bruckheimer than Cage... Cage actively turns people off down my way, as he's done more than his share of shitty parts since Leaving Las Vegas. -

No, he was bi. He loved women, but enjoyed sex with both women and men. Back then, that sort of thing was common amoungst rich and powerful men. True, but that was a more common philosophy to the true Greeks rather than the Macedonians like Alexander. Many Greek scholars were misogynists and felt that women were "beneath" men so, in turn, gay sex was a sign of how "enlightened" a man was. (Personally, I feel they put this philosophy together to explain why Plato liked young boys.) -
Boise beat Oregon State and that's about it for big-name quality teams. The computers love them, apparently, because they're scoring machines and undefeated, despite the fact that their SoS blows.

The reason I don't let things like that die quietly is that Vandy, when coached by Woody Widenhofer, had one of the best defenses in the country year-in year-out despite severe recruiting limitations. (A private school with high academic standards has more trouble recruiting than, say, Mississippi State. They'd be mroe at home in the ACC competing against North Carolina, Wake Forest, Maryland, etc.) That puts them above Baylor, Temple, and Indiana just because, on any given day, they can upset even the best team while those three are typically blowout wins for any Big East, Big Ten, or Big 12 team.
