NBA 2008 - the home stretch

The NBA owners just approved the Seattle Supersonics' move to Oklahoma City, pending resolution of the outstanding lawsuits involved. I think there's a chance that Seattle wins the one on the Key Arena's lease, but I don't see Mr. Starbucks winning his suit to overturn his sale of the team to Clay Bennett due to fraud on Bennett's part.

I think "bad draft" is severely overstating things. 1. There's no obvious #1 prospect, so that works against the Dolphins. However, there are top prospects at OT, DT, OLB, DE, etc. who are all capable of going #1 overall. There are enough teams with lots of holes in the Top 6 that virtually any of these guys could end up anywhere. 2. There's no depth at QB, thus we get everyone slobbing Matt Ryan's knob. Matt Ryan isn't as good as JaMarcus Russell or Brady Quinn, IMHO. I'm thinking he's probably comparable to the guys who went in round 2 last year, like John Beck and Kevin Kolb. Since QB is the sexy position to the media and the general public, a draft devoid of a Joe Montana or Peyton Manning helps knock down the perceived quality of that year's crop of talent. 3. This is probably the deepest year in CBs in a while, which is one of the marquee money positions these days. This gets discounted by people, though, because no one is sure if the top CB in this class will be Leonis McKelvin, DRC, Mike Jenkins, Aqib Talib, Brandon Flowers, or someone else. I agree with you that this draft is likely being trashed because of the scarcity of an overhyped media-whore player like a Reggie Bush or Brady Quinn. Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be able to accurately see whether that's true for a year or two, after this year's class help lead their new teams to the promised land.

As a Saints fan, I'll agree with this. The Panthers, Falcons, and Saints all have existing rivalries from the old NFC West, with the Falcons / Saints rivalry going back to when the teams were founded in the 60s. The Bucs have certainly started up rivalries with the Saints and Falcons since then, though I can't speak for a Bucs-Panthers rivalry. Having such stiff competition in the division to the point where no team has won it two years in a row has helped the rivalries along. It beats the crap out of the old NFC West, where the 49ers consistently won it for a stretch of 15 years.

Potential Big Problems for WWE Worker

The "John" connection is a screw-up by someone who either didn't know too much about the situation or is an idiot... The name "John Laurinitis", aka Johnny Ace, appeared on the TV segment because the paperwork shown on TV was the WWE dress code announcement from a few years ago. That particular announcement was an internal memo sent to the wrestlers by Ace in his position as head of Talent Relations.

Bored's College Football Pick 'Em - The Bowls

The Barbaro Bowl is all tied up. The three remaining differing games are the Cotton Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, and Sugar Bowl. If two of Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Georgia win, then I'll be tossing around a baseball made out of Barbaro to celebrate my win.

Yea, no kidding. I can't be surprised with Florida State, though. At least they've downgraded to academic cheating from being the "shoplifting university" of college football. Actually, academic problems have been a hallmark of Papa Bowden's run there. In particular, there's the infamous case of Deion Sanders, who didn't go to any of his fall semester classes or exams in 1988, as he knew he was going to the NFL after bowl season. The embarrassment of that revelation in the late 80s made Florida State put the "Deion Sanders rule" on the books about athletes attending classes and exams. (There's a debate on whether Deion would even be covered under the Deion Sanders rule, as he was a walk-on for FSU instead of a scholarship player because he was already under a baseball contract with the Yankees.) I forgot the "Deion Sanders rule." I started watching college football in the mid-1990s when all the Seminole players seemingly got busted for shoplifting (some at UK got busted too interestingly enough...must've been a 90s fad) so the Deion issue passed me by, although a friend told of me of it the other day before I saw your post when we were discussing the upcoming game. Shouldn't the NCAA be issuing stiffer punishment that this, though? I mean I know its Bowden and all but up to TWENTY-FIVE players?!?! You've gotta be kidding me. However, I think betting on Florida State isn't that bad of a proposition. As much as I like UK, I've always found it hard to find confidence in the football program because when we get breaks (such as just having to kick a FG to finally beat Tennessee this year in the second OT or the Bluegrass miracle five years ago) we always seem to screw up. The current rumor is that the NCAA will make Florida State forfeit games that any of these players played in, especially if one or more of the suspended players is a long-time starter. Normally, that would be a "big whoop" situation, but Papa Bowden's not letting JoePa retire with that record for most wins by a D-I coach if he can help it. (Bowden's up by 2 games right now, pending bowls. Forfeiting up to 7 of FSU's games this year could put him a good half-season behind JoePa for the record.)

You can bet on it, but I'm sure the line has gone to shit now. The question at this point isn't "Will Kentucky win?", it's "By how much?"

The difference is that LSU wasn't completely dismantled like Oregon after Dixon went out, and Dorsey's just banged up while Dixon's out for the year. LSU still won a number of games with Dorsey hurting or on the bench. Oregon hasn't won a game since Dixon went out.

And I'm wishing that I could have woken up with Jennifer Connelly and Evangeline Lilly in my bed. Doesn't change how things worked out, now does it? Tennessee had the game. Ainge lost it for them. lsu's been on a downward spiral late into the season. Yeah, because injuries are killing them. CBS's crew were blatantly proclaiming that if Auburn hadn't hurt Glenn Dorsey's knee on an illegal chop block, that LSU would still probably have been #1 going into today's game. Now that he'll have about 5 weeks to heal up, he should be back in game-shape.

That would actually be a fun call. "We're 9-3, in the Top 10 of the BCS, and we can't get a bid. This is such a fucked-up year that they're having to EXPAND the pool of At-Large teams because they're having trouble getting qualifiers, yet they can't send a 3rd team from one conference? WTF?"
