That saves me the trouble of picking it up... The concept of playing on the "bad" side seemed interesting but, since I wasn't really impressed with Nightfire or Agent Under Fire, I was going to hold off on this one for a while.

"Brass Monkey" by the Beastie Boys "Roadhouse Blues" by The Doors "Another Drinkin' Song" by the Mighty Mighty Bosstones "Gin and Juice" by Snoop Dogg Here's the lyrics for "Another Drinkin' Song" because it's the most obscure of the three. Gonna dive into a dive I've dove before Gonna haunt a haunt I've haunted Like a million times or more A familiar joint Where getting drunk's the only point To frequent this place With any frequency at all Countin' on a remedy I've counted on before Goin' with a cure that's never failed me What you call the disease, I call the remedy What you're callin' the cause I call the cure Gonna sing a song, a song to you A song I've sung before Belt out a ballad that I've belted out A million times or more The words I'm gonna scream And getting drunk's the central theme To the lyrics, if you can Make the lyrics out at all Countin' on a remedy I've counted on before Goin' with a cure that's never failed me What you call the disease, I call the remedy What you're callin' the cause I call the cure Just a devotion to a potion Okease no applause A dedication to a medication A crutch a cure a cause What I've counted on to pick me up Has knocked me to my knees Before I hit the floor once more I'll call it the disease

Whatever Pitt does, they'll do. That doesn't change the fact that this year's debacle will put the conference's automatic bowl bid in jeopardy over the next three years. If Louisville, West Virginia, Syracuse, or Pitt don't step up and play balls-out for the next few years, there will be THREE At-Large bids to the BCS. Louisville is quality, as they've been one of the top C-USA programs over the past 6-7 years along with TCU and Southern Miss, both of which have been Top 10 programs recently. West Virginia had everything set up for a good run this year but they blew it against Virginia Tech and BC. If they ever get back into their early-90s form, they could be a top-6 team in the BCS. Syracuse has been on a downward spiral over the past few years, but they're the only program in the new Big East to ever go to a BCS or Coalition bowl. If they get their recruiting done right, they could go back soon. All of the above being said, I still feel that the new Big East will be on par with the new Conference USA comprised of Southern Miss, Memphis, UAB, UTEP, Marshall, and others. The net difference in the changes to the two conferences makes them much closer than before, mainly due to the loss of the Big East's marquee teams. The teams they picked up to replace them are one good team and two media-markets with traditionally shitty teams. (South Florida was ONLY brought into the Big East to get them an "in" to Tampa, Florida) That doesn't make for a stronger conference, as I'm sure that having a Philadelphia team (Temple) and a New Jersey team (Rutgers) that both suck certainly doesn't help their TV deals either.

Alexander - Well, it's apparently a pile of shit.

Stone's genius is severely overrated and this is coming from a person who LIKES Platoon, JFK, Salvador, Nixon, and Natural Born Killers. (I feel Wall Street is overrated, I refuse to watch Heaven And Earth, I felt The Doors was a bloated mess, and I LOATHE Born On The Fourth Of July) 1. Stone LOVES to do his "director's cut" thing, which pretty much means that he shoots hours of film and insists he use it all whether it helps his narrative or not. This has been a huge problem for him ever since he put a string of hit films together, which is why The Doors, JFK, and several other films were overlong and either lessened the impact or outright lost the point of the piece. 2. Stone's facination with avant-garde camera and editing techniques is distracting to the Nth degree. This got particularly bad on both Natural Born Killers, referred to by the crew as "the most expensive student film of all time", and Any Given Sunday, which I refer to as "Blair Witch on a football field". Any Given Sunday's camera-techniques may have been done for a reason, but that still doesn't change the fact that you have to watch it from a safe distance of three miles to avoid motion sickness. 3. Stone likes to do the Michael Moore "creative history" thing, which worked on JFK when he could play off of people's suspicions but not on something like Alexander, which contradicts thousands of years of historical data. If Stone could be paired with an editor and a producer that could keep him sane, he could put out some good films. However, his own personal choices keep driving a once-promising career straight into the toilet. To clarify the above- It's been a long downward spiral since JFK. Natural Born Killers was panned then the subject of various lawsuits. Heaven And Earth was Stone rehashing Vietnam yet AGAIN. Nixon, while good, was a no-win subject because the anti-Nixon left was pissed that he wasn't hard enough on him and the pro-Nixon right was pissed that he was too hard on him. U-Turn was quickly forgotten, and rightfully so from what I hear. Any Given Sunday barely made a blip on the radar despite marquee names being involved. Of the films mentioned, only Natural Born Killers and Any Given Sunday broke even or made money in the US. U-Turn, Nixon, and Heaven And Earth were all sizable bombs. (Nixon took in about $14 million off of a budget of $50 million. Heaven And Earth took in $6 million off of a budget of $33 million. U-Turn took in $6.5 million off of a budget of $19 million) -
I'd like to see Josh Booty get signed by the Bears, but only because their lack of an O-line will certainly result in a major injury. (He, like other Evangel HS stars including Miami Hurricanes QB Brock Berlin, is a fucking ASS who doesn't take losing well.)

Hrm... I don't think Kentucky and Vanderbilt are the two worst BCS-conference teams. Are they really THAT much worse than Temple, Baylor, Indiana, Washington, Washington State, or Illinois this year? If you expand this to other leagues, are they that much worse than 1/2 of the MAC, Mountain West, WAC, or Sun Belt? Teams like Idaho, Utah State, UL-Lafayette, UL-Monroe, and San Jose State are perennial cellar-dwellars in mid-majors. That being said, Tennessee will be Auburn's whipping boy because they're pissed that they're being counted out of the title hunt.

Damn, and I'd thought I'd gotten a GOOD deal by picking up Blade Runner, Absolute Power, Chris Rock: Bigger And Blacker, Grumpy Old Men, and Ace Ventura: Pet Detective from Best Buy for $25... And if anyone asks why I picked up Grumpy Old Men, the repeated quotes such as "Chuck's going to give her a ride on the old baloney pony" coming from old men get a laugh out of me... much like My Fellow Americans gets laughs out of me by having James Garner and Jack Lemmon tell each other to go fuck themselves.

Well, look on the bright side: The Liberty Bowl is looking to be the only game besides the National Championship that features two teams from the BCS Top Ten. That is just SUCH a ringing endorsement for the BCS, no? It depends who Auburn plays in the Sugar Bowl OR against Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. If it's Miami, then there could be three games pitting Top 10 BCS teams against each other.
-
I'm guessing that you probably can, unless Syracuse makes a huge jump by beating Virginia in the Big Atlantic championship.
-
As I pointed out yesterday UTEP took an open bid over one the WAC bowl bids and leaves the WAC likely without enough teams to fill their bids so I wouldn't see why Virginia couldn't do the same. The Liberty Bowl pays out $1.3 million as opposed to the $750k for the Tangerine Bowl. The Independence Bowl and Las Vegas Bowl are also potential open bid options for Virignia. The Liberty Bowl will take Boise State unless they get a BCS bid. Worst comes to worst, Virginia can go to the Independance Bowl in scenic Shreveport, LA, to face Texas Tech.

They announced it at the start of the week. Rice wanted their game to have a big-time feel for their fans and seniors, so they moved it to Monday night at Reliant Stadium. GO OWLS!!! Blah... I'd rather someone cheer "What comes out of a Chinaman's ass? RICE! RICE! RICE!" (Old LSU cheer from when Rice was a rival. Not very PC, but pretty funny.)
-
Ole Miss is up 20-3 in the 4th, so I think that Virginia may have finished off Rutgers. EDIT My mistake, they need to win 2 more games. TCU is up on Tulane, though, so things are looking good for them.
-
I feel about as good... I only lost three games this year and the closest of which was against Georgia (tiebreaker, IIRC). I've got a good shot at winning. Even if I don't win, the forfeits this week give me a good shot at an at-large bid to a good bowl.
-
I think they'd just take Auburn's current spot in the Sugar Bowl and the Tigers would head to the Citrus Bowl unless Auburn didn't fall out of the top 6 in the BCS standings. Then we'd have a real mess on our hands, because there's no way in hell Texas would deserve to be in a BCS bowl over Auburn. No matter what, Texas wouldn't get the bid. Either California, Auburn, or Boise State would get the second at-large bid.
-
Here's an idea- Lay out the games for next week at the end of today and let people start making their picks. Only 3 games at the MOST will be determined by Rice-Tech, including ours, and none of them is involved in the Big Atlantic mess. That means it won't have a direct effect on the title game matchups.
-
They can't lose it this year. However, under the "Big East Rule", a conference's automatic spot comes under review whenever the representatives over a four-year period average worse than a ranking of 12 in the final BCS poll of that year. The last three rankings for Big East champions have been 1 (Miami wins national championship), 2 (Miami loses to Ohio State in title game), and about 5 (Miami beats Florida State in the Orange Bowl). If they don't shape things up next year, Louisville et all will have jumped to the Big East for no reason football-wise, although both Louisville and Cincy's basketball programs still make out like bandits.
-
The sad/funny thing is that a loss by my alma mater, Southern Miss, may seal a 10th victory for me. Failing that, Tech will have to beat Rice on Monday.
-
Pitt still has to play South Florida, so they could fall out of the Top 25 even if they make it in this week.
-
There are some decent-sized upsets in the works right now. 1. Syracuse is up 21-3 over Boston College early in the 2nd quarter. That could end up getting the Big East's automatic BCS bid revoked in a year or two. 2. Kentucky over Tennessee 24-22 at the half. Tennessee has already locked up a SEC Title Game berth, but this could knock them down their eventual bowl bid from the Capital One Bowl (Citrus Bowl) to the Cotton Bowl or the Outback Bowl. 3. Missouri over Iowa State 7-0 in the 2nd quarter. If Iowa State loses, then Colorado sneaks into the Big 12 title game.
-
Bored, what kind of impact will Ohio State's forfeit and Washington State's loss have on the at-large bids?
-
As has been said above, the PS1 knockoff cards were notoriously unreliable, especially any of the Memory Card Plus line that used compression. As for PS2 cards, I haven't heard any complaints yet but I wouldn't use it as your primary card... ESPECIALLY if you're doing long-term stuff like Dynasty mode in a sports game or any RPG.

Fox and Buy.com are offering the first seasons of quite a few TV shows on DVD at $14.99 for 11/23/2004 through 11/29/2004. This is similar to a recent promotion done at Amazon.com. The shows involved include: 24 MASH The Shield Buffy The Vampire Slayer King Of The Hill The Simpsons Angel In Living Color Millenium Futurama Dark Angel Roswell These titles are eligible for free shipping as well as a 6% discount, which is linked below. http://www.buy.com/retail/coupon.asp?prid=...073&dcaid=17073 There is a limit of one set of a series per customer. Considering the fandom that there is for The Shield and 24 on this board, anyone who doesn't already own them BETTER buy them now, as $14 each is an INCREDIBLE deal for the level of entertainment you're getting. EDIT- To clarify, these are SEASON ONE ONLY. Other seasons of these series as well as other series are all at their regular prices, although the coupon is still active.

Winners so far this week: UConn Pittsburgh Colorado LSU Texas is up 16-13 over Texas A&M in the 3rd quarter Arizona is up 27-20 over Arizona State in the start of the 4th quarter.

The way it works out for the Big East is that 2 of 3 teams beat West Virginia (BC and Pitt both did), so they're out no matter what.. Then both Syracuse and Pitt will have beaten BC, so they'd be out. At that point, it comes down to whether Pitt or Syracuse are ranked. If neither are, then I think that Syracuse's win over Pitt puts them in.
