  1. Wonderful indicator there... they've been right on only 1 out of the last 3 elections, including picking dead-last finisher Perot in 1992.
  2. MSNBC- "We called that city a deadlock before we called it for Bush"
  3. Bush could pull a Grover Cleveland and run again for a unconsecutive second term in 08! I'm sure by then, the new "America: Europe Style" will have been attacked several times by terrorists, and will be ready for the headstrong Sherrif who they unwisely kicked out to return on horseback and restore security to the range... Bush pulling a Cleveland would be oddly appropriate since Cleveland participated in three of the closest elections in history, with his fate depending on the swing vote in New York at least twice.
  4. Upon further inspection, it appears part of why Jindal lost dealt with majority Republican areas in the heart of Acadiana voting for Blanco. (Many of these areas went for Bush over Gore by about 2:1 but split about 51-49 in Blanco's favor) One of my co-workers had brought this up and said Jindal distancing himself from Edwards' legacy cost him the election in places like Lafayette and Crowley (Edwards' hometown). I guess she was right.
  5. I've met Bob Dole and Libby Dole in 1996... Bob, of course, got his ass handed to him in 96. Libby did all right in 2000 though.
  6. Got a link to the parish-by-parish results? I want to see the numbers from Jefferson Parish and other suburban New Orleans parishes that are majority white. My thesis is that the Duke supporters in Jefferson et all bled support away from Jindal in vastly Republican areas.
  7. http://daschlevthune.typepad.com/daschle_v_thune/ The link above is to a liveblog of the Daschle vs. Thune court case over voter intimidation. Apparently, things are not going well for Daschle, although the judge is, in not much of a surprise, an old Daschle friend that has help him out in the past. (The judge was Daschle's lawyer when he sued his way to a Senate victory in 1978)
  8. Is the LA political system's motto: "Hey, why not the worst?" -=Mike 1. I think that the Open Primary system was an alternative that came around when White Primaries were outlawed. A White Primary was a rule that said that only whites could vote in the Democrat Primary which, in the South, was the only party at the time. I don't know if Louisiana in particular had them but I know that Mississippi and other states did. 2. The state's motto is "Goddammit, we either get someone from the looney fucking left or a guy who looks at home saying 'Heil Hitler!'", but we occasionally sneak decent candidates into the general election. Too bad that Duke's fucking racist asshole voters decided to vote for Blanco over Bobby Jindal for Governor. On the plus side, Jindal looks like a lock to get David Vitter's House seat that he vacated to run for the Senate. Since Jindal was brought into DC as a Bush appointee in 2000, he'll probably get a plum spot for a freshman Congressman.
  9. That almost goes without saying. LA is a joke. -=Mike One ballot, 10 candidates. Louisiana's open primary - the product of drinking Louisiana - "Vote for the crook. It's important" Any state where David Duke is not a SIGNIFICANTLY worse candidate for Governor than the guy who won is just sad. -=Mike ...Edwards was REALLY shitty... If Edwin Edwards gets out of prison soon, he could always run for office again. The sad thing is that Duke beat the Governor of Louisiana (Buddy Roemer) in the open primary. When you're the Governor and you lose to David Duke and a crook. As for South Dakota.. I had heard rumors of there being monitors to help the Native American vote. Or something of that sort. The point/counterpoint for that appears to be "Native Americans are disenfranchised v. Reservations stuff the ballot boxes" both could be true as well. There's also talk of good turnout from the Navajos in Arizona and New Mexico. Missouri is having a clean campaign so far.. other than the Republican congressional candidate digging up forms from the 1970s which forced the Democrat (Emanuel Cleaver) to admit that he shaved a year off his age in the 1960s while filling out a drivers license application in Texas, so he could impress girls (since they'd think he got his license at a younger age). No word on if that worked. And yeah, since that info transfered to his Missouri drivers license, marriage license, and other forms.. that might not go over well. But Cleaver will still win Duke has a solid base of about 30% in the state due to the redneck population, while Roemer was a fucking joke by then due to all his bungling as governor. He couldn't even make it past 4th place in 1995 when he ran against Mike Foster, Mary Landrieu (current US senator), Cleo Fields (who was nearly indicted along with Edwards for taking bribes), and Melinda Schwegman.
  10. As a civil servant in Louisiana, I actually have to inform you of the sad fact that prisoner #100069KY (Edwards, Edwin) was actually a better governor than Dave Treen (79-83), Buddy Roemer (87-91), Mike Foster (95-2004), and Kathleen Babineaux Thibideaux Robichaux Don't-know-my-head-from-my-assheaulx Blanco (2004-2008... I hope). Blanco in particular is fucking pathetic, as she is largely ineffective and follows the pattern that Foster set up, except when it comes to attempting to bring businesses to LA. Unfortunately, her idea is to write off millions in tax revenue to bring these companies in without thinking of how to make up for that loss. (I'. the database guru for the Dept. of Revenue and I can tell you that the large chemical companies get HUGE sales tax breaks compared to retail stores) Edwards, OTOH, kept things running smoothly and got his cut as a kickback on the sly rather than out of the state budget. Not exactly an upstanding guy but certainly better than anyone who's followed him.
  11. You want corrupt? Go to Chicago. The main corruption in Louisiana migrated from there, as the dead of New Orleans rise to vote Democratic when Mary Landrieu's running for Senate.
  12. Anyone else heard that Daschole (intentional misspelling) filed an 11th hour lawsuit alledging that election monitors at Indian reservation precincts in South Dakota are meant to disenfranchise the Indian vote? I'm gonna enjoy it when he either loses handily or, when he tries to sue to keep his job, he gets sent to prison for massive voting fraud.

    Kerry, Bin Laden, and Moore

11 here too... I tended to say Kerry instead of Moore and Moore instead of Bin Ladin.

One Day Left by Michael Moore

Jesus... and people thought his critics may have been going over the top by refering to him as "Tubby Riehfenstal". I hope this fucker commits suicide on camera after Bush wins, which will save us from his new "documentary" about the health-care system and his re-make of Super Size Me when he tries to sue the fast food industry for his physical ailments.

    BCS Week 3 Standings

Boston doesn't give a shit about BC's football program AFAIK. Their basketball program may be a different story. As for the ACC's reasoning, BC was a means to an end as it guarantees they get exposure in Boston for their GOOD teams (Florida State and Miami football, Duke and UNC basketball, etc.)
  16. teke184

    BCS Week 3 Standings

It's not that mind-boggling... 1. Boston = huge TV market while West Virginia = middle of nowhere 2. Certain ACC members weren't thrilled to take Virginia Tech to begin with and REALLY would have drawn the line at West Virginia I'm more surprised they didn't go after Syracuse or Pitt than West Virginia.

    BCS Week 3 Standings

West Virginia, by default, will be the Big (L)East team this year and, yes, they WILL be blown away by the team they face. I mean, seriously... West Virginia will face someone like Cal, Auburn, Miami, Texas, or Tennessee and they'll get the smack down put on them. (I'm excluding Wisconsin because they're going to the Rose Bowl and Utah because there is NO way a bowl would put West Virginia against Utah if they could help it)

Bored's College Football Pick 'Em Contest - Week 9

The explanation I've gotten has been "The amount of points scored by your opponent in the week you faced them." IMHO, that means you get bonuses for getting skunked when you lose as opposed to losing via a tiebreaker.

    Electoral Vote Predictor 2004.

BDC, Bunning's numbers have been down since his odd behavior of late, which has people thinking upset. I personally think he'll win easily, but a lot of people have their sights set on taking him out.

Oklahoma State goes wide left on a field goal to tie with 11 seconds left, so Oklahoma squeaks out a win.
