The Lobos of New Mexico win, which means I just pimp-slapped Kotz for his 5th loss.

    Interesting Daschle Tidbit

If Thune loses and Daschle is DQed, the spot would be filled by a person chosen by the Governor of South Dakota.
  3. care to elaborate? and keep in mind the difference between wanting to bring back the draft and having to do it. 1. The military branches are already meeting their recruiting quotas for the year. 2. Training new troops takes roughly 1-2 years. If someone's drafted, they'll be learning their job for about 75% of their stint, which is a big waste of time and money. 3. Draftees won't want to be there and quite a few current troops wouldn't want them there either because they know that the weakest link in their unit could get them killed. They'd rather depend on someone who wants to be there than someone who's more concerned with putting their time in and getting out with the least amount of damage possible.

    FDA Orders Strong Antidepressant Warnings

Yes, it's worth looking into but, and that's a BIG "but", these people obviously had some emotional issues before. That's why they were on an ANTI-DEPRESSANT. It's worth checking up on so that doctors can prescribe these properly, NOT so a shyster like an F. Lee Bailey or Johnny Cochrane can sue pharmaceutical companies and get millions out of them. How would you prove that an anti-depressant doesn't work? As you said, if they're taking them --- suicide is ALREADY a problem. -=Mike Let's just say I know a bit about these and that the prescription of these drugs is more of an art than a science. The effects vary enough from person to person that a doctor needs to be VERY careful in prescribing these kinds of drugs.

It's worth checking up on so that doctors can prescribe these properly, NOT so a shyster like an F. Lee Bailey or Johnny Cochrane can sue pharmaceutical companies and get millions out of them. Proper prescription and use by a doctor should be a big issue considering that, for whatever reason, there's a big movement to overmedicate kids these days. There ARE legitimate uses of this kind of medication but there's probably a LOT of doctors who just prescribe these without considering the possible effects. (The doctors' choices in anti-depressants being so wide is a large problem because it may take several tries before they find a drug that works properly for the kid. They may start off on Paxil, move to Zoloff, then Effexor, before finally ending up on Prozac. While these are very similar because they're all seratonin-regulating drugs, there are enough differences between them that people will have widely varying side effects)

RNC sends a 'cease & desist' to Rock the Vote

I thought MTV was the Shitty Reality Show channel... I don't think they've had an entire music video on the air in 15 years. (TRL does NOT count.)

    FDA Orders Strong Antidepressant Warnings

This falls into the category of "Duh", IMHO. If you need to be on anti-depressants, chances are that you COULD entertain those thoughts anyway. On top of that, these drugs have a "loading" phase in which a person's chemistry is unbalanced. At that time, there's an increased chance of unusual behavior. That's why a person taking the medication for the first time is supposed to be under medical supervision for the first few weeks they're on the medication. If you want a drug that causes suicidal tendencies without being associated with anxiety or depression, try Accutane. It's for acne problems but can cause birth defects if taken while pregnant AND increases the risk of suicide. (A friend of mine was on this and attempted suicide. Thankfully, he pulled through and has no long-term ill effects from it)

Bored College Football Pick 'Em Contest - Week 7

Tiebreaker update- UAB 45, TCU 21 for a total of 66. Also, JR Russell of Louisville had 49 yards.
  9. In 2002, Kerry was the first Massachusetts Senator to ever come up for re-election without major party opposition, he won by an 80%-18% margin He did beat Bill Weld by a 52%-45% margin (almost 200,000 votes) in 1996 My mistake... thought the Weld election was in 2002 and not in 1996.
  10. I will say it --- there is NO chance, whatsoever. The GOP doesn't want it and they aren't about to lose Congress. -=Mike Agreed. Bringing back the draft is political suicide and, because the Republicans control the House and Senate, there's no chance it will pass. That being said, anyone else think that this is a Hail Mary by Kerry because he's having trouble in the polls? A sane person sure wouldn't be bringing this up if they were close in several battleground states and could pull off a victory without getting dirty. If Kerry doesn't win this election, I think his political career will be DOA by the time his Senate seat comes up in a few years. In his last Senate election, he nearly lost it to a Republican in MASSACHUSSETS for God's sake...

It's still Kyle Orton at this point. Fuck Stefan Lefors... He used to play at Christian Life Academy, which was one of my district rivals in HS. They'd take ANYBODY, regardless of why they were kicked out of other schools... which is why I refer to them as Criminal Life Academy. I feel his older brother was a better QB but, since he's deaf, he had few opportunities outside of high school.

RNC sends a 'cease & desist' to Rock the Vote

That's the NAACP's job. Actually, Jesse Jackson has said a paraphrased version of that already... He's compared Bush's position on gay marriage to the State's Rights position that the Confederates used to start the Civil War.

It's probably not that bad. Only one of them's gonna get stuck with Miami, and the other one could easily get an undefeated Louisville team going for a share of the national championship. There could be up to 3 undefeated teams... Southern Miss still has to play Alabama and Cal this year but, due to a fluke of C-USA scheduling, doesn't have to play Louisville this year.
  15. Posters at Little Green Footballs have been hijacking the Guardian's voter list so that they either keep someone from being sent a message or, alternately, say that they got their list from foreigners who want to tell them how to vote. I'm surprised that no one has sent a Cease And Desist to the Guardian for attempting to interfere in a US election.

Ever been pulled over for speeding?

Pulled over at least 5-6 times. The only time I got a ticket was on I-59 in Mississippi, when a State Trooper pulled me over for going 78 in a 70 MPH zone. The other times were mostly for speeding, but got pulled over at least once under suspicion of DUI because I was driving away from a fraternity house. (For those curious, I did NOT drink that night because I figured I'd get pulled over)

  19. John, Bush DID meet with the Urban League, although it wasn't on your list... Bush gave the NAACP the finger because of the Byrd commercials implying that he condoned the dragging death of James Byrd.
  20. Oh fuck... Affirmative Action. This will be good.
  21. Bush just slammed Kerry for voting against the first Gulf War... Groovy.
  22. They would have gotten Andy Rooney but he would have answered all of his own questions...
  23. Uh, John? Abortion is NOT in the Constitution and the legality for it is a HUGE stretch by the Earl Warren era Supreme Court.
  24. A $2 raise in the minimum wage is FUCKING STUPID during the middle of a recovery. It may increase some people's pay but it will sure as hell eliminate some jobs... at LEAST proportionally to the extra amount they're having to pay. Raise it once the economy's safely above the level it was at before the Dot Bomb in 2000.
  25. I'm still watching the debate... Then again, I'm also trying to cure my insomnia.
