New Jack charged with aggravated battery

Like, all of New Jack's matches are Hardcore Matches, has there ever been a match where he hasn't used a weapon. At least one or two in Smokey Mountain... However, he was notoriously lazy as a wrestler in ECW because he'd want to brawl instead of wrestling and doing spots. (Saturn and others have said this)

  3. Bringing up Cheney's daughter again is a cheap shot... She didn't make herself a part of the campaign.
  4. That joke bombed, Stunaz...
  5. Carter's record wasn't particularly great... The economy wasn't good and the whole Iran hostage crisis, complete with the Desert One rescue disaster, pretty much signed his political death warrant.
  6. Will Kerry bring a knife to a gunfight like Edwards did against Cheney? Stay tuned to find out!

New Jack charged with aggravated battery

This made it onto Drudge today... I was looking at the headlines at work and, when I saw that, I joked to myself that it was probably New Jack again. Turns out I was right. I move that New Jack be sterilized to prevent little dipshits showing up down the road.

Voter registrations thrown out in Nevada

If they'd just modernize a little, no one would have to do anything like that. Voter registrations can be entered into a database, and depending on the database chosen and the queries run, duplicates can easily be spotted and resolves. Of course, from the news clips I've seen, most of these states maintain paper voting records after entering them into a computer program that probably bears little resemblance to a database in terms of power and functionality. While I think states should maintain their own voting records, the federal goverment should force them to modernize. Their shoddy record-keeping affects federal elections, after all. Make them put everything into databases, which are easy to update and maintain, and easy to share information from with other states. Having worked directly with optical scanning technology and the databases that result, I'd say that the technology to put the info directly into the system (mainly the Optical Character Recognition technology) is MUCH more expensive than most election departments would want to pay for. The most cost effective scanner for these purposes would be something similar to the Scan-Optics 8000, which is pretty much a giant photocopier that will feed through big stacks of applications and create images of both sides of the paper. From there, the applications can be keyed in by data-entry people looking at the image, thus populating the database. Potentially fraudulent applications may be noticed at this point depending on the number of data-entry keyers working. (Where I work, we have up to 50-60 keyers working at a time and it's hard to see repeated names with that many people working. If there are only 10 keyers, someone would quickly notice multiple applications coming in with the same handwriting but minute differences in the information listed.) From there, someone could mine the database to see if names and addresses were being repeated. If so, they could be flagged for investigation and followup.

Voter registrations thrown out in Nevada

I think it's more rampant over here because we have elections every two years for a variety of offices. Doesn't Australia, like most Parliaments, only have elections about every 4-6 years unless a special one is called?

    Praise Be to Kerry/Edwards!

If the Republicans keep the House, I don't see a Kerry tax increase happening on those making over 200K, much less other people Not through a lack of effort. He'll propose a "deficit reduction package" which will increase taxes. -=Mike Unless it's an absurdly thin Republican majority (such as 218 Republicans, 216 Democrats, Bernie Sanders).. I'm pretty sure that a tax hike wouldn't be passed though the house. (not to mention there's Democrats who wouldn't vote for that) I think that the Democrats who made it through the Republican Revolution of 1994 would be VERY wary about passing tax increases. Enough Dems got voted out in those mid-term elections for the Republicans to take both houses for the first time since Eisenhower was the president.

Voter registrations thrown out in Nevada

Wouldn't simply having registration tied to Social Security numbers (with photo ID required at polling places or when applying for an absentee ballot) work? -=Mike Yeah, but it would disenfranchise the illegal aliens, convicted felons, and the dead. Not sure about the felons, but I think we all know who tends to get the best of the immigrant vote and the graveyard vote.

Voter registrations thrown out in Nevada

On a slightly unrelated note, I'm going to laugh my ass off if voter fraud in Colorado gives Kerry that state but ALSO passes the amendment that will split the state's Electoral Votes by percentage. If that happens, it helps Bush because he'll get 4 while Kerry gets 5 and, with Kerry trying to catch Bush in the EV totals from the looks of things, it hurts him more than it helps him.

    Patterson gives notice?

Patterson has been one of Rock's biggest supporters for a long time... This makes me infer two things: 1. The "It doesn't matter" riff by Trips recently may have been a subtle "fuck you" to Pat 2. Rock, while not exactly a regular WWE guy anymore, is much less likely to come back now. The crap with Jericho and Hurricane getting screwed already seemed to have gotten on his nerves and this may convince him it's not worth the hassle anymore.

    Electoral Vote Predictor 2004.

Bush was up 9 in Gallup's poll from 9/18 to 9/21. It's a little old but there are two more with Bush up by 4 (Survey USA and Las Vegas Sun)and another with Bush up by 2 (Rasmussen). The point being that these show a Bush lead just above the margin of error and yet Zogby has the race as a tie. If you look at the regression analysis of the Nevada polls at the EV site, you'll see that the top poll has had Bush up consistantly for a while now while the Zogby one is erratic to say the least.

    Praise Be to Kerry/Edwards!

It was an incredibly fucking stupid thing to say because: 1. Stem cells haven't yet proven that they could do anything that has been claimed, such as repairing spinal cord damage *in humans*. (Giving enough saccharin to lab rats produced cancer in them... however, no one has ever reported a case in which it was reproduced in humans.) 2. Even if we poured the entire GNP of the United States into stem cell research, we probably wouldn't see any practical applications within 4 years if only due to FDA restrictions. All it does is make Edwards look like an idiot who's exploiting Reeve's death for political capital. Not that Reeve's family would mind it if it DID mean stem cell research went forward, but there's no guarantee that it would ever get done if the two Johns get elected. (The Dems don't control the House or Senate now and probably won't come Inauguration Day. If the Johns are in the White House, they'd need the entire set of Dems in the House and Senate along with some left-leaning Republicans to pass anything.)

    Electoral Vote Predictor 2004.

Anyone know if a poll BESIDES Zogby has Nevada in Kerry's column? Every other poll I see has Nevada as a Bush state by about 10%.

College FB Programs that were once elite.

True dat. If LSU wins out and goes 9-2 in the regular season, it will be exactly what most pre-season rankings were expecting considering the schedule and the turnover in starting players. Everyone knew coming in that the four-week stretch of playing Auburn, Georgia, and Florida on the road would probably produce two losses. On the plus side, LSU's remaining home schedule is against Troy State, Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Alabama, and their only away game is at the end of the season against a slumping Arkansas.

This Week in College Football 10/7 - 10/9

The decision to fire Stolich had been made before they had an idea of who to replace him with. IIRC, their first few choices had turned them down before they finally pulled Callahan out of their ass, and it was a questionable choice considering WHY he was fired so soon after going to the Super Bowl. (The Raiders were having to remind each other during team meetings that they couldn't jump Callahan for being an asshole.)

Bored's College Football Pick 'Em Contest - Week 6

I'll second that, and not just because I'm 4-2. Wins should count for more than 1/3 of the total if only because Strength Of Schedule doesn't mean as much as the results of the games. The way the current BoredCS poll is set up, I could lose all of my games this year, score somewhat decently, and still be in contention at the end of the year if my schedule had included Stanford, Minnesota, Boise State (using Vern's picks), Virginia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Hawaii, etc. You may want to try several different versions of the formula that give more weight to wins than anything else. My preferred version would probably be 50% for the win/loss record, 30% for your correct pick percentage, and 20% for your opponents' correct pick percentage.

This Week in College Football 10/7 - 10/9

Stolich was fired ostensibly because Nebraska, like Alabama, Auburn, and other "elite" football schools, expects to be in the title hunt every year. Realistically, though, I'd say he was fired because he wasn't Tom Osborne. AFAIK, the Nebraska administration wasn't particularly happy that Stolich was Osborne's chosen successor so they were doing whatever they could to push him out the door. It still remains to be seen how a few years of Callahan will affect Nebraska's storied program but my guess is that they become and also-ran in the Big 12 North, winning enough to be bowl-eligible each year but not in contention for the Big 12 title.

This Week in College Football 10/7 - 10/9

True dat. The problem is that the Big 12 North went into the shitter while the Big 12 South got stacked with Oklahoma, Texas, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, and a resurgent Texas A&M. I don't think ANYTHING could help Baylor, though. The Big 12 North is going to need some serious rebuilding. Colorado is a national joke right now and will assuredly go on NCAA probation within the next 2 years. K-State is backsliding after years of gains. Nebraska is not adjusting well under Calahan, although I'd give it another year minimum.

    Australian Federal Election

Anyone know if Howard won by a larger margin than expected is because of polling irregularities by the Aussie press? It certainly sounds strange that a 50-50 race ends up so strongly in Howard's favor and I DON'T mean because of the dead rising to vote Liberal.
