ITT: talk about how much weddings fucking blow
JaMarcus Russell's #1 Caucasian Fan replied to Giuseppe Zangara's topic in No Holds Barred
You are not alone, I'm turning 23 in November and I still haven't been to a wedding. My younger sister isn't the type to shack up at a young age. My cousins on my mom's side are all younger than me, and on my dad's side my cousins who did have kids aren't married. My family (aunts, uncles) is generally pretty old, so they were married way before I was born. I only have a couple of friends, but they want to wait until they are older to get married. Different values I guess. -
Early Games (1:15pm EDT) KC @ ATL- Michael Turner is a beast and the Chiefs have no run defense. ATL wins easily OAK @ BUF- Buffalo has looked great, hopefully the Raiders can keep it close. I like the Bills to go 3-0. CIN @ NYG- Has NYG played anyone good yet? NYG is a walk. MIA @ NE- After the Jets game I'm sold on NE. NE wins easily. HOU @ TEN- Tennessese has looked good after too games and I haven't seen much of HOU. I think TEN wins here. TB @ CHI- Should be a close one, but I think the Bears will be who we thought they were. ARI @ WAS- Is Arizona for real? I like there chances against an inconsistent Washington team CAR @ MIN- Minnesota is OVERRATED. AP can't do it by itself, so I like Carolina in this one. Late Afternoon Games (4:15pm EDT) NO @ DEN- NO has a weak defense and Denver has proven to have a deadly passing game. DEN by a considerable amount. DET @ SF- DET just plain sucks here, Frank Gore should have a career day. I like the 49ers to go 2-1 STL @ SEA- SEA must win here to keep their division crown hopes alive. STL stinks, so I think SEA but in a close one. PIT @ PHI- I liked what I saw Monday Night, so I say Philly, but it go can either way CLE @ BAL- CLE needs a win here to get off the snide. Haven't seen enough BAL games to judge them. CLE needs it more, so I like em in this one. JAX @ IND- Another tossup. Both teams are struggling, but I like Indy at home for some reason. Sunday Night Football (8:15pm EDT on NBC) Dallas Cowboys @ Green Bay Packers- Another big time game. Possible NFC championship Preview. Aaron Rodgers first real test against an elite team. Should be another close game, but I think Dallas overwelms the Pack at the end day. DAL, but not by much. Monday Night Football (8:30 EDT on ESPN) New York Jets @ San Diego Chargers- San Diego should crush the Jets at home after two down to the wire losses. San Diego is too good to go 0-3.

I'm more than positive that James Lofton will be the next head coach. I'm torn on Lane Kiffin honestly. He breathed some life into the team last year, after a 2-14 2006 season. He's young, but very green in my eyes. I dunno what happened today was either the players playing for Lane or the players playing for themselves knowing Lane was a lame duck. The defense had an almost magical turnaround this week, maybe Rob Ryan was making a statement Monday Night? I have to believe that ultimately Al Davis made a mistake hiring Lane Kiffin. Lane, mark my words, will someday be a great OC or HC for either a pro or college team in the future. However, he wasn't the right fit for a team that is in this much turmoil. Plus he crossed Al Davis concerning personel, coaches and philosophy, all of which I'm with Lane, but when you haven't proved anything on the pro level, you have to work with what you are given. Lane's ego is what did him in for better or for worse. I dunno if James Lofton can coach or not, but I hold cautious optimism. Lofton was a great Raider, and knows what it was like when "Just Win Baby" wasn't talk from the distant past. The Raiders need a coach thats tough and in your face. Lane Kiffin wasn't that type of person.

Man, fuck the Broncos! Even after a victory, Al Davis finds a way to rain on the parade: Lane's Cooked

Well the Raiders post their first win of the seasaon against the Chiefs. Where was this team last Monday Night? The defense looked pretty decent today. The secondary, led by the rising star Nnamdi Asomuga earned their money today. We finally got a pash rush going. Although Fargas got hurt, McFadden and Michael Bush looked really good, with McFadden rushing for over 150 and a touchdown. Both need to learn how to hold on to the ball. JaMarcus Russell didn't have a great day stats wise, but managed the game pretty well. He has a good arm, and with some time, his accuracy should get better. Overall, this is the team I expected from opening day. There is still a lot of work to be done and we only beat the Chiefs, but I'm happy with the win regardless. Kiffin keeps his job for another week. Al should threaten his job every week from now on.

I almost had a heart attack when that happened. I mean dude been in the pros for eight years! WTF McFadden busts out a nice 50 yarder, but fumbles after the run. Luckily the ball went out of bounds. Michael Bush looks pretty good for his first couple carries And McFadden finds paydirt for the first time. The Raiders have a nice run attack. Now if we could get a passing attack going.

Almost the start of second half of Raiders-Chiefs. Defense looks much much better today. Hope Kiffin opens up the playbook in the second half. Hope Fargas is ok as well.

So Arizona State loses to UNLV. WTF Pac-10? -
I think we covered all that in last week's thread, Teke. Kinda stating the obvious there.

Thank God for Air Force and Baylor. They are truly my saving grace this week. Fuck UCLA though. Bored, keep on putting the Washington schools for pick'em please? Haha -
I'm pretty sure if Kiffin is canned next week, James Lofton is YOUR next Raiders Head Coach. Yay?

TSM QUESTIONS YOUR LOYALTY

I guess I'll add in my two cents on my fandom of the Raiders: I've been a Raider fan since I can remember. I was born and raised in Inglewood (moved to Santa Clarita in 2001), and back then the Raiders were THE team in Los Angeles. I don't have to explain the cultural impact the Raiders made and continue to do so in Southern California. I remember geting Raider gear all the time when I was little, helmets, footballs, jerseys, you name it I got it. My dad was a diehard Rams fan but gave up on the Rams the time the Raiders rolled into town and got season tickets. Around the early 90s or so, my dad started to take to me Raider games. I mean all eight games, fifty yard line, great seats. It would be my dad, uncles, and my grandfather. It became a tradtion to go every Sunday to go to Raider games. I saw some great players durinng those years: John Elway, Warren Moon, Howie Long, Timmy Brown, LT, Phil Simms, Junior Seau, Joe Montana etc. I was really sad when the Raiders moved in 1995 back to Oakland, but I stayed a fan because it was the only team I knew and liked. Like many fans, I loved the history, the comebacks, the lore, the colors, uniform everything. I was pretty much a diehard and continue to be diehard fan. Like many fans, its crushing, sad and dishearting to see the condition this team is now in. Bad owner, bad scouting, bad players, bad stadium. I will freely admit that we are the laughing stock of the NFL and have been for the past five years. I don't see a light in the tunnel, and I am not realistically expecting that Al Davis will magically step down and let a real football guy turn this ship around. The Raiders are one of the most well known and popular teams in the NFL, with a worldwide following and its sad that that there will be a generation of fans that will think Raiders suck and never win. Like I said in the Week One thread, This is a loyal and passionate fanbase, and we deserve than these past five years. But, like in 1995, I will never give up on this team winning or losing. It would be too hard to give up and be a fan of another team. -
How many old timers are still around?

You remember me flaming you 7 years ago? What the hell did I say? Either you have a great memory or I said something pretty damn mean. Oh, and I've been here since...uh...well, I was here when all that nonsense with Sean Shannon changing the site to an article about rape happened...and I think the site was called Rantsylvania then...so I think it was 1999. Not that I really post here anymore. I think it was when all the WDI originals got banned (Witty Banter, can't remember who). Being a 16 year old dumbass then I tried to make by self look cool and "in" by reguritating the SK=Hitler stuff. And you let me have it, big time. Dont remember what was said, but it was like really long. Wish the blue board was still around, so I can see it. Don't know why I remember this, just thought it was a funny memory when I saw this thread. -
1. Watching both teams on Sunday, I really have to Chicago believe should beat Carolina. It may be a one week aberation, but I liked how Kyle Orton managed the game and didn't really make bonehead errors. If the offense can stay on the field like they did against Indy, Chicago could do some damage in the NFC North. 2. Matt Ryan impressed me as well against the Lions as well. He was the playing toothless Lions, so I don't know if he can keep it up. I'd like to see more Falcon games before I can make a sound judgement. 3. Based on talent, New England should and could still be a top level team in the AFC. My problem with the Pats is that 1. Brady was the one constant in the New England offense since 2001 and he really is the one guy they couldn't afford to lose (karma I guess for the teams treament of. The offense will defintely not be as dynamic as before. 2. That defense is old and looks vulnerable as well. All in all, I think Pats will rally, but age and injury will take their toll as the season goes on. 4. Yes 5. Its funny, I actually liked Cleveland in the AFC North this year, but watching the Steelers continue to dominate, I gotta go with the Steelers in this one. Maybe the Browns rally like they did last year?

Eh, Raiders fans I've interacted with were pretty nice and mellow when I was going to games in Los Angeles with my dad. Of course there are the knuckleheads, but we are no more intolerable than whiny Boston sports fans and a certain Chicago Cub fan. I think people really go by the media sterotype of crazed Raider fans, but we are normal people that really are passionate about our team. I always thought the people who dressed up for the games were cool too. I believe there are other fanbases that dress up as well (not as much as we do). Raider fans just like their team, thats all.
-
I believe in my last post, I mentioned that there was "no pass rush" and a "swiss chesse secondary", besides this debacle was a full team failure, not just a defensive failure. The offense was just as bad as the defense from what I watched. Porter, you do realize that at some Lane Kiffin will have to take some responsibility for what happened tonight, right?. Besides Al Davis not letting him do anything personnel wise(I'm just as frustrated as any Raider fan tonight about Al), this team was flat out sloppy, undisciplined and worst of all unprepared for the Broncos tonight, which I think highlights the incompetency of the head coach and the staff. Like I said, this was a top to bottom full team failure, not just a defensive one.
-
Besides the obvious Al Davis death line, I really think Lane Kiffin is in over his head as a head football coach in the NFL and tonight proves it. Bad playcalling, no pass rush, and a swiss chesse secondary is bad enough but total lack of discipline and motivation falls onto the head coach and his staff. The Raiders had a whole summer to prepare for the Broncos and this is the best they could do? I liked Lane Kiffin when he was calling plays at USC, but he truly looks like a deer in the headlight on the sidelines. Go back to the friendly confines of USC and come back in a couple of years Lane. Al Davis has done a lot of great things is his life with the Raiders, but I wonder with an ego like his is he ever going to look into the mirror and realize he is part of the problem? He really owes it to us Raider fans to put somwhat of a competetive team on the field after these past five seasons. Raider fans are among the most loyals fans in sports, but even we can't stomach more losing seasons for any longer.

Jesus Ditka is just burying this team in the booth. He's right about every damn thing though. Does anybody think Lane Kiffin coached his last game tonight? I think there is no way he survives this.
-
You know, I know its the third quater of the first game, but damn does anybody on the this damn squad KNOW HOW TO PLAY SOME FUCKING FOOTBALL. I MEAN ITS MONDAY NIGHT AT HOME AGAINST THE HATED BRONCOS. This team looks like a pile of dogshit. What a shame, Raider fans deserve better than this shit. As I type a personal foul and a false start. I mean they might as well pack it in, it ain't getting any better than this. All the fucking money spent on shitty free agents, jesus......

Some thoughts for discussion: With the three big AFC dogs (Indy, New England, and San Diego) looking pretty vunerable today, when was the last time the AFC looked this WIDE open? Without Brady, the Pats are going to look awfully pedestrian this season. The rest of the AFC East, off of the slate of games I've seen (thank god for NFL Sunday Ticket) looks to be much improved. I think we may have a new AFC East champion this year. It looks like the Bears finally have an offense to go with that defense. Pending tommorows Packers-Vikings game, I think the NFC North is going to be brutal this year. Is it too early to say that the Falcons could possibly challenge for a wild card spot this year? What the hell happened to the Jaguars today? I also thought Houston wouldn't roll over and die so early. Its safe to say that the Rams and Bengals will be vying for the number one pick in the draft this year. Who the hell will win the NFC West?

I've been around since the 2001 blue board, really only as a lurker and off and on poster. I think my shining moment was being flamed by The Thread Killer around the time of the WDI split in December.
