With Cena winning the Rumble, the ending of Orton/Hardy still doesn't make sense to you?

    The 2008 Royal Rumble Thread

I don't care what anybody says, Cena coming out of nowhere was bananas. The NYC crowd flipped a bitch. Cena winning is great news for me because for the time being HHH is out of the title picture. HHH/Orton would be the fucking pits. Cena and Orton can end their feud from the fall the right way. Hardy losing was disappointing, but with Cena coming back it makes some sense now. It keeps Orton strong for Mania with a clean win. A heel winning clean, what do you know? The interesting question is the Elimination Chamber for No Way Out. Its going to be interesting how they do this. Is this match going to involve all three brands?

Im actually surprised that many of you guys were once Raider fans. Ive been posting or lurking since the old blue ezboard too. I only remember Sass being a Raider fan. Looking at Al's point of view (I'm not defending this), once Lane's name came up during some college coach searches (and Lane didnt go and really refute all the rumors), Al probably thought Lane would bolt at the first chance. Being a fan of this team and following the team since I was little, Al is a very loyal man to HIS people, and Lane wasn't one of them. Unfortuntely, Al's unwavering loyalty to his people is what hurting the team. Al was very sucessful for a very long time with his hand-picked personnel and coaches. Today's NFL does not allow for that. At this point, Al should just fire him and be done with it. There is no turning back from this. After thinking about this, Denny Green could be a good fit for Al and the Raiders. Denny is familiar with the bay area (HC at Stanford) and like VX said is capable of being Uncle Al's personal cabana boy. Which isn't totally a bad thing since harmony and stability is what the Raiders need so badly. Denny is a good offensive mind and the Raiders have talent on that side of the ball along with a chance to nab Darren McFadden in the upcoming draft. Denny also helped develop Dante Culpepper. JaMarcus Russell could benefit from Denny's tutelage. Offense is what hurt the Raiders last year mainly, and Lane's playcalling and personnel decsions were maddening at times. Denny is a veteran coach and a player's coach to boot. Sorry I wrote an essay, losing Lane Kiffin sucks, but I'm always going to look at the glass half full.

I kind of knew this was coming when Uncle Al went behind Lane's back and rehired Rob Ryan. Other than Denny Green, who would want to take this shitty shitty mess of a team. We have a few bright spots and a high draft pick and thats pretty much it. Bad facilities, working for Al Davis and a poisonious work enviornment make it almost impossible for anything positive to happen here. I mean why should any free agent want to play here? What the hell happened to the Raider mystique? What happened to Just Win Baby? Is there any team for in pro sports today?

Breaking news out of Oakland Al Davis asks HC Lane Kiffin To resign http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3214665 As a diehard and devoted fan, this is absolute rock bottom for this once proud franchise. Kiffin wasn't perfect, but he got the team to compete this year after a 2-14 season. Its hard to believe that this team was in the Super Bowl five years ago. Denny Green is said to be in the running for the job, but hell Al should just coach the fucking team since he ran everybody else out. Edit: Fuck King beat me to it. Oh well, Ill just go back to watching team film from the 1970s now.

After last year's rain soaked Super Bowl mess, I would say not. Who is the most overrated quarterback in NFL history.

The Los Angeles Clippers bar none. Terrible Terrible owner in Sterling. Woefully inept front office. Moved at least twice. Had a shitty arena until somehow lucked out into the Staples Center. Bad draft picks, bad players, bad trades. Barely any winning seasons. They are the worst in my mind.

If you mean defunct by teams playing under different names I gotta go with the Houston Oilers. Loved their uniforms, colors, history. Had good players (saw Warren Moon when the Raiders were in LA) and were pretty sucessful. The Titans are pretty lame. Question: If you were hired as the New York Knicks GM today, how would you go about fixing the Knicks. Anything is fair game

Ill answer Kingpk question then pose my own: I think Philly because the Phillies could finally get their act together. Atlanta team's are rebulding, the Chicago teams either suck, are under-acheving and/or getting back to championship potential (Blackhawks), Seattle has one team about to move to OKC and I can't see the Seahawks winning the Super Bowl anytime soon. Which teams will be first to move cities? Seattle Supersonics, Jacksonville Jaguars, the New Orleans Hornets or the Florida Marlins?

The Giants over the Pats would be the bigger upset. The Giants are fielding a shoe-string secondary out there and the passing game the Pats big advatage over all the NFL. Plus I think the play of Eli Manning is always in question. I think the Chargers do have the tools to beat the Patriots (LT, Gates, defense), so if they wound up beating the Pats, it wouldn't be as shocking.

Question: If the Patriots win the Super Bowl, will Tom Brady get the Greatest of all Time tag that is placed around Joe Montana?

Carroll, if you remember, was a somewhat decent head coach with the Jets and Patriots (even leading the Pats to a playoff berth). Still, its funny that Blank is still going for a college coach after being burned big time by Petrino. To me, Carroll go can to a much better organization that the Falcons anyway. Carroll would be a better fit for a team like the Ravens, who already have top defensive personnel.

And I have to say it one more time: it would be foolish to count out Clinton

    Campaign 2008

I hate to say it, but it would be foolish to count out Clinton at this point in the game. Obama has yet to be really challenged on the issues, and while he is an excellent orator and an engaging personality, to me me he is style with little substance. The real test for him and everyone else with be Super Tuesday in Feburary and while winning Iowa and New Hampshire is nice and all, I just can't see him carry states like California and New York just yet. Remember recent history, Bill Clinton in 1992 came in DEAD last in Iowa and came in second to Paul Tsongas in New Hampshire (which led to his comeback stuff) (sp), Bush I came in third in Iowa in 1988 and Reagan lost in Iowa in 1980. It is possible for Hillary to regain momentum. I'm also not keen on Obama, because to me, he comes off as a lightweight. Harping change and hope is good and nice, but it would not be enough to defeat the Republicans, who will be all over Obama like flies on shit. If Obama runs against a guy like McCain, I'm afraid were in for four more years of the staus quo.

Just a quick obeservation and question: With the big states like California and New York moving their primaries to February this election year, does tonights Iowa vote really matter to canidates like Clinton and Rudy, who all but have the big states locked up if I'm not mistaken?

    Your most hated/liked for 2007

Most Hated: 1. Tom Brady He is probably represents what is "right" with sports. Marketable, non-controversial, says the right things, humble etc etc. That being said I don't think I've hated a quaterback this much since John Elway. Its funny, because since he represents what is right with sports makes me hate him so much more. He is so fucking smug it makes me sick. That and he wins so god damn much its not even fair. Also, ever sports commentator under the sun takes turns slobbing this douches knob is a major turn off for me. 2. SEC Football College Football's best football conference, sure right? I don't have to here about it every two seconds. Its bullshit that a team with two losses can get a shot at the national championship because the conference it played in was JUST SO TOUGH!!! Top it off with inbreed fans heehawing how much better their conference is than everybody elses makes me hate them so much more. 3. The Michael Vick saga Both sides are equally hateable and despicable. The pro-Vick crowd are idiots since they believe this is a race issue blah blah, dog fighting isnt that bad blah blah. Face it, Vick actually got off pretty good, since the sentence called for a max 5 years and he only got 2. Sounds fair right? The anti-crowd is just as bad with PETA assholes, hyberbolic rhetoric (dog murderer??!!) and other offensive bullshit. I wish this story will go away for a long time, but ESPN will never make us forget. Most Liked 1 Colts winning the Super Bowl I'm probably going to be flamed for this, but damn is was hard to root against Peyton Manning because he is just so damn likable to me. Heis aww shucks routine is just so funny that I cant never get enough of it. Plus they beat the hated New England Patriots in a memorable game, so it makes me like them even more.

    Grammy nominees

When was the last time the Grammy's were even relevant to the music scene? 1996? I want to him to win, because him winning a Grammy would prove once and for all that the award is irrelevant.

And thats the reason I want him to win a Grammy. It'll knock a douche like Kanye and other "rap elitists" off their high horses.

ESPN sucks, so do thread closers

Sean Salisbury and Bob Grise venom towards Bobby Petrino is what sucks about ESPN. Salisbury playing a fucking tough guy, and questioning Petrino's "manhood" was absurd at best. Hey Sean, football is just a game last time I checked.

    Ike Turner Dead

What the fuck is that supposed to mean, and what does pro sports have to do with Ike Turner's death? Even though he was a pretty terrible dude, he was partly responsible for Tina Turner becoming what she was. Glad to see he somewhat seemed to turn his life around at the end.

I'm not going to argue the merits of Crank That Soulja Boy, but in a year that was dominated by stuffy self-conscious rap (Common, Kayne), rehased gangsta rap bullshit (50 Cent) and Roger Troutman rip-offs (T-Pain and every one of his 1000 singles, the new Nate Dogg), Soulja Boy is a refreshing change of pace actually. Its cool that he doesn't take himself remotely seriously like some of the other clowns do (Kayne, 50). I hated this song so much when it first started playing on the radio, but repeated listenings increases my love of the song. Its a guilty pleasure if there even was one. Its funny that this dude got big thru ringtones and Youtube. Plus, when his dance is done right, its pretty cool.
