You're still missing it. They can use whatever they want as motivation: winning for winning's sake, lose and we're done, we've been withholding alcohol from ourselves till we have a good game, avenging death, whatever. I don't care. It doesn't matter what teams do to motivate themselves, and in the case of my Bears, I don't care as long as it yields wins. But for Mike to say that this death is going to be sublimated into a decisive victory is pretty dicey business. If the Redskins beat the Bills, it won't be because Sean Taylor was murdered and this inspired them, and if they lose, it won't be because Sean Taylor was murdered and they weren't focused. There are so many more immediate aspects to the outcome of the game than the pregame dangling carrots. It's like the "Rest vs. Rust" canard, but much more offensive to any rational person's football sensibilities. I now see what your trying to get at, but to be all upset about it is really pointless. Let Mike predict what he wants to predict and be done with it. Just let it be. Anyways I read Mike's comment as anything but serious. Maybe he was, but still does it really matter in the long rin of things?

Its just motivation for the game man. Nothing more, nothing less. Sometimes when people (or professional football players) are grieving, then channel i their emotions in positive games. In this case the Redskinsare using the untimely death of Sean Taylor to motivate themselves in an obviously emotionally charged game. I don't understand whats wrong here.

I don't think anybody had the expectation that the ghost of Sean Taylor will help Jason Campbell throw that extra touchdown or anything your suggesting.

I really don't understand what your trying to say here. Whats wrong with the Redskins mourning Sean Taylor's death by basically dedicating the game to him? He was a valued member of the Redskins and was obviously well liked amongst his teammates. Anyways what does it matter to you anyway? You have the option of not tuning into the game or even ignoring the "disgusting tributes".

Like I said, Different strokes for different folks. I'm not bothered by Gumbel's voice or his mannerisms at all. I can see why people don't like him. Then again I don't really pay attention to the commentators while watching a game. For me personally, I'd rather listen to Gumbel than the blatherings of Joe Buck or his ilk any day/

    Packers/Dallas Worst officiating all year?

Isn't it funny that when a poster who's favorite team loses a game, he/she always complains about shoddy officiating. And no this isn't the worst officiated game in the NFL this year.

I'd take Gumbel any day over some of the schlocks that do games on other networks. I don't get the Gumbel hate at all. Different strokes I get. He is most definietly better than Joe Buck or Musberger.

Do you even watch wrestling? ECW and SD have been doing a "talent exchange" for about a month now. Jeez, do some research before you post.

    OAO 11/19 Raw Thread

After reading this thread I wonder why some people still bother to watch WWE. If you hate it so much or don't even watch it, why do you even bother? Some of the negativity is mind blowing. Some people are never happy.

    NFL WEEK ELEVEN- Proving grounds.

Randy Moss is the element of the Patriots I can't stand the most. The guy was a fucking cancer in Minnesota and Oakland, screwing both teams up so badly, that they are still recovering it from today. Now that he is a Patriot, he is a team player? Anybody can see through that bullshit. It just goes to show, if you complain and complain good will happen to you, whether you deserve them or not.

The 85 Bears where a likable sqaud with crazy characters with over the top personalites. The Patriots nowadays are by all means the epitome of corporate football. Clean cut, not controversial at all with a white collar look. Mix in a pretty boy QB with an almost corporate raider like attitude of a head coach and its easy not to like this team. The pre-2001 Pats were likable because A. they sucked and B. Their old uniforms are still pretty cool.

A couple of things: 1. I think what bothers people about the Patriots is not that their winning games, but the fashion in that their winning them. Its one thing to win in a convincing fashion but its another thing to pile it on to people and pretty much humiliate them. I can cite two glaring examples. The first being the Washington game, when the Pats where up by 38 went for it on 4th down and scored a touchdown while being up by 38 and having the game pretty over by then. The second being when they where driving into the Buffalo endzone and going for it on 4th and then scoring a TD instead of taking the field goal. In both instances the game was already decided and I (like many others here) thought scoring was just bad sportsmanship. I know in pro sports the motto is stop them if you want to them to run up the score, but piling it on instead of just punting or taking the field goal really sours me on the Pats. 2. Bill Belicheck or whatever, has really succeeded in turning what was a feel good story in 2001 into the most hated team since the Yankees in 2007. He is good at what he does, but he really is a poumpous, arrogant, aloof asshole. 3. Those who are calling for the head of Brady (or legs) are being quite overzealous, but the football gods have a way of evening out the score over time. 4. Patriot fans quite honeslty should stop wasting their time on here trying to defend their team and enjoy the sucess while it lasts. People who hate the Pats, will hate them and their is nothing you can really do. Just enjoy it, for gods sake. (cause I sure did during the Lakers heyday years ago).

If it was your team youd be just as pissed off as I am when the refs ignore the rules and just give the win to the Browns. I'd be pissed, but I don't think my battle cry would be "IT'S THE REF'S FAULT". Who elses fault is it? It wasn't a reviewable call and they did everything in their way to say it wasn't reviewed even though it was. Whether or not the FG was good is irrelevant, call on the field was NO GOOD and they had no right to review and change the call. It would have been a bigger travesty if they hadn't reviewed the call. It was a field goal, whether you like it or not and for once the NFL refs got it right.

Like that matters. Phillip Rivers (in all of his awfulness) had a better game than Peyton Manning last week. Does it make any difference? No. Rivers and Peyton aren't connected in the eyes of media and fans. Rivers and Eli? Yes. Mario will unfortunately always be compared to Reggie despite playing entirely different positions. My real point is that one game means nothing in terms of comparison. You're better off comparing the overall careers so far, and right now, just by the team's success and how he broke out last year, I think Bush has the edge right now. Let's not forget though, HMW's only reason to make that comment was because he hates USC and I guess he thinks even a DE that was overdrafted makes for a better pick than Reggie Bush, however true that might be. Can we ban Reggie vs. Mario talk for the rest of the season? I mean damn, does it really matter anymore in the grand scheme of things? It happened, its done, its over. Let ESPN talk about it all they want, but for our sanity lets not?

The refs made the right call in this case here. The ball did go through the uprights, which is a field goal if im not mistaken. If you see the replay, the ball goes through th uprights before it bounces off the post. I dont see how this was a bad call at all. It was a field goal wheter Ravens fans admit it or not.

Lane Kiffin who was co-offensive coordinator at USC. Never was a head coach, but hiring young guys out of college is a Raider MO from years past.

I have to disagree with your notion here. This season has been filled with interesting storylines like the Pats march to 16-0, Tom Coughlin and the Giants, and the resurgnce of Brett Favre and the Packers among other stories. I think its great that there are now dominant teams in the NFL rather than overall parity. Ive been totally engrossed in the Pats dominace and flirting with 16-0 and I HATE the Pats. The playoffs are coming up and nearly every team this year has a legitmate shot at the playoffs.

    NFL week X! DIVISIONAL DESTRUCTION!

I agree about the defense 100%. My problem with the offense is that they have become almost too preditable in a way. That and Turner simply doesn't use LT enough for my liking. Its becoming a problem that defenses are figuring out ways to contain LT and take him out of games. Rivers hasn't proved to me that he can lead a team to victory. On a sort of unrealted note, VX has me believing the gap between the AFC and NFC isnt as wide anymore. I dont think San Diego or even Pittsburgh are that much better than the Cowboys and Packers. Also, are the middle of the road AFC teams really that much better than the middle of the road NFC teams? The NFC is definetly a more competetive conference than the AFC. I just think the NFC is starting to gain some ground on the AFC after a rather dra decade.

    NFL week X! DIVISIONAL DESTRUCTION!

Yeah San Diego was pretty fortunate in regards of the Colt's offensive miserable performace. Even after the win, I'm not bought anymore on San Diego being an elite team anymore. They are very good and extremely talented, but after 10 weeks there are some fatal flaws. I won't name the obvious Norv Turner but it seemed that teams have done a decent job in containing LT for now. Teams are more content with containing LT and letting Rivers beat them. Rivers has had his moments of excellence this season, but knowing that he can't really rely on LT to bail him out has really exposed him as a painfully average QB. San Diego will win the divison almost by default due to the incompetence of the AFC West, but I believe, unless Norv Turner has a miracle run inside of him, they are a one and done in the playoffs.

Levels you hate in game you love

When Sonic 2 came out, I remember throwing fits at the second to last level of the game. It was like a warship or something. Fucking platforms. Goldeneye's Jungle Zone on the max difficulty was a pain in the ass for me. And I second the hate for Labyrith Zone for Sonic 1. I played it recently and that shit was fucking hard even now.
