    The College Football Thread 10/2 - 10/7

Heh, USC was way overrated this year anyway. Their skill players are green and need another year to develop. John David Booty is a fucking fraud and the media onslaught in LA will commence with Bill Plashcke firing the first shot. Their defense while good still, didnt come up big tonight at all. This year is the real rebuilding year for USC. What kills me is that if USC beat UCLA last year, I have no doubt that USC would have beat Ohio State. I don't know why this team was rated number one in the polls, but I guess repution is what matter in college football. At least UCLA lost tonight. Fire Karl Dorell, NOW Gotta give Stanford credit. Came into the belly of the beast and didnt buckle like many other teams would have. Kept it close and made the plays in the end to pull of the great upset. This win is HUGE for the program and hopefully Stanford can be a little more competetive in the Pac 10

    Heel of the Franchise

I second that one Al. I live in the Los Angeles area and Plaschke is the only one that could ruin a Sunday morning with his self-righteous crap he writes. He's bad on ATH, but the rest country is lucky that you dont have him at your paper. LA area Teams: Lakers Present: Kobe Bryant was the defacto heel of the franchise until about this year when the local media soften their stance on him. The heel now is Jerry Buss and Mitch Kupchack. Back in the Day: Elden Campell was pretty much booed out of town when Shaq first arrived. Nick Van Exel and Cedric Ceballos are a close second. Cant forget Dennis Rodman's short stint here as well. Clippers: Present: Donald K Sterling: If there ever was heel in sports here he is. Really needs no explanation. Back in the Day: Im not really a Clipper Fan but Michael Olowacandi was universally hated duirng his time here. Dodgers: Present: This season really brought forth the assholes on the team. First is Luis Gonzales whom showed his true colors with his grumpy old man rountine in regards to the youngters. Jeff Kent because he is an asshole wherever he goes and for Milton Bradley. Matt Kemp for dissing the vets on this team. Grady Little for being ineffective and bascially losing control of the team. Back in the Day: Gary Sheffield was a malcontent during his time here. Milton Bradley for Jeff Kent and for going off the deep end many time. Brett Butler for his comments on Mike Piazza and Dodger management got him a bad rep here. Former GM Kevin Malone was BLASTED by the media before he was fired. Paul Depodesta was hated here too but that was due Bill Plaskche really pouring it on. There are so many more.... Angels Jose Guillen really takes the cake for francise heel. Not really any on the squad currently. Kings: I guess Rob Blake but I think King know more than I do about the Kings Ducks: Darthtiki can shed some on this Thats it for LA for now

Cena Injured Tonight (Out 6-12 Months)

Well the only reason I started watching Raw again in 2006 was because of Cena. I don't know if I can watch a Cena-less Raw. There isnt anybody on Raw that had the work ethic, was over with the crowd (good or bad) and put in consistent performances day in and out than John Cena. This is a damn shame. The people that are glad he got injured, well you got what you wished for. Its too bad. See you Raw in 6 months. Now to switch back to Smackdown for the time being.

    Cena's title reign

Ok, we get that you hate Cena. Personally, I think John Cena used steriods back in his OVW and UPW days, but I don't think he uses them now. I mean it is possible that he has that physique naturally through good genetics. Im not ruling out that he does, but remember he was a freakin center in college when he played football. He's just a big guy naturally. Im more than willing to give Cena the benefit of the doubt when it comes to roids, than Ken Kennedy or Rey Mysterio. Back to the topic at hand. At this point Cena should lose the strap at Wrestlemania 24. It would be a big moment and it would make an instant star for the person who finally beat Cena. I belive thats he earned it and hes gotten a hell of a lot better. I hope they give Cena some time off soon after he loses the belt. I just hope it doesnt go to Orton or HHH. As far a HHH getting the belt from Cena, that would the worst path to go. Use Cena to put over somebody that needs it like a Kennedy of even a Lashley. I used to like HHH very much until now. If he wins it, I gotta question his love for the business and the WWE since all he seems to be interested in is keeping himself looking good. HHH doesnt need another title reign, hes already been established. I just hope they dont waste 2 years of Cena for a token HHH run

Hierarchy of Worst Owners in Sports

Al Davis history with the Raiders automatically disquailfies him from the worst owner ever. Aside from 3 Super Bowl wins, numerous division titles and numerous playoff apperances. At one time the Raiders were the winningest team is pro football. Al Davis also hired the first Latino and African American head coaches in NFL history (Art Shell and Tom Flores). I mean the man is pretty is the face of the Raider francise. Now I know the Raiders are ass now but overall Al Davis was at one the point one the best owners in football. But Im a diehard Raider fan so what do I know! As for the topic. I don't its fair that people like Jerry Buss, Frank McCourt or Jerry Reinsdorf are considered bad owners. All have had sucess with their respective teams. Buss and Reinsdorf and suffered through bad seasons, but does that make them bad? Is Bob Kraft a bad owner because the Pats had some tough times in the past? Maybe unpopular at times, but not bad by any means. To me a bad owner is a person that doesnt invest in the team and has no interest in winning to me these are the worst of the worst: MLB: Jeffery Loria-Marlins Peter Angelos-Orioles Bud Selig when he owned the Brewers NFL- The Brown Family- Still one of the worst but made some strides this decade. Ralph Wilson Bill Bidwell NBA The investors who own the Atlanta Hawks- Atlanta Spirt Donald K. Sterling Seattle Sonics ownership- Professional Basketball Club NHL- Bill Witrz Phillip Ansultz James Dolan The Best: NFL Bob Kraft Dan Rooney Jerry Jones- meandering and nosey, but put together a winning team in the 90s and is building one now. NBA- Mark Cuban Jerry Buss until 2004 MLB- John Henry George Steinbrenner Arte Moreno NHL- Since the lockout I couldnt really say. Two new ones that just crossed my mind. Tom Benson of the Saints- Saints have had recent sucess, but its hard to forget the sparse crowds at the Superdome and the paper bag heads. His handling of the team after Katrina was very unfortunate. George Shin of the Hornets. Had an ugly departure from Charlotte.

Hierarchy of Worst Owners in Sports

Reinsdorf was one of the hawks among the owners that invited the 1994 strike and made it such a travesty. For that he ranks among the worst. Point taken . Well, to follow up, not looking at his involvment in the baseball strike, is he still the worst ever? He is not the best owners but I wouldnt personally but him among thw worst.

    Old School Jams

The topic is self explanatory. Well Ill start off with my favorite old school genre. Being a child of the 1990s that can remember all or most of the decade (Roughly anyone born before 1986), I really have to give love to New JAck Swing. The music was fun, uptempo and clean. Ill post a couple of favorites: Aaron Hall: Dont be Afraid (1992):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CAEQPpGsZvU Al B Sure: Nite and Day (1988):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZ6GddZbQHE Al B Sure: Misunderstanding (1990):http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iGXXHjVCj0 Chuckii Booker: Turned Away (1989)-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-l6boIyD8o Guy: Do Me Right (1990)-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=094sLo9FpGs This is just a sample, but I often find myselfs wathcing old reruns of BET Video Soul and Planet Grove on BETJ. Its funny because now, this is basically all I listen to now. I dont know why, but New Jack Swing reminds me a lot of childhood. Hmmm Post your favorite old school song

    Orlando Theme Parks

Haha, Vitamin X is from Valencia? Haha small world I guess. What high school did you go to? Did you play a sport? I played football for the beloved Saugus Centurions. Anyways Magic Mountain is fun but they raised general admission to 60 dollars and parking is 15 dollars. I mean Disneyland is cheaper than SFMM now for the most part. Of course I worked there for the better part of 4 years so Im biased.

To change things up from Roundtable Bears Talk, Which NFL coach is on the hot seat to start the season NFC Tom Coughlin- He should have been fired last season for second half meltdown. The players hate him, management hates him. I thinks he gets his pink slip midway through the season. Joe Gibbs- Once proud coach, now regulated to the cellar. Its a damn shame what has happened in DC, but I think Gibbs leaves Parcells style citing wanted to be with family. Wade Phillips- Got the job to groom Jason Garret. Not really on hot seat, but really a lame duck. John Fox- If he doesnt improve from last season, I think Fox might be on the block come 2008 AFC Jack Del Rio- I believe Jaguars are looking for him to relieve them of the inconsistancy problem they have. I think if he doesnt deliever, the Jags will give his pink slip and go in another direction Jeff Fisher- Great coach, reminds me of Bill Cowher in a way. Came real close, but never won the big one. Gotta wonder how long the Titans keep him around.Like Phillips and Fox, his job is safe this year, but next year if Titans are still terrible he might be given the pink slip. Mike Shanahan- I hate hate hate this guy (Diehard Raider fan in me). Hasnt done a damn since Elway. No excuse why they missed the playoffs lasst year. If the Bronocos repeat their performance from last year, he has to go. Norv Turner- He is always on the hot seat. No reason this team should not miss the playoffs. If he messes this up, hes done this year.

Bonnie Hammer submitting ideas to Vince

Im with the poster who said the WWE should come up with their own identity for this era instead of rehasing old Attitude ideas. The Attitude era was fun for its time, but rewatching it now, most of it has aged terribly now. Of course then I was 13-16 and now im 21 so ive advanced in taste and what I consider entertaining. I dont think they should model after UFC because I believe that WWE cant now, after killing kayfabe, go back and try to present wrestling as real again. Everyone now is in on the con, and a shoot style show would insult everyones intelligence. Now if Hammer can influnce Vince to get his creative juices flowing and return Raw to an action packed, cliffhanger show then I'm interesting in what she can cook up. Ifs an Attitude rehash, then count me out because Im not interested in seeing Stone Cold and Mick Foley upstaging. I think the WWE has good group of young guys and new faces that are coming into their own. Im more interested in what Hammer can do for people like Cena, Orton, Lashley et al and not for Attitude retreads,. I mean whats the worst that could happen?

When should John Cena Drop the Belt?

I dont post in the WWE forum that much, but I read it on a regular basis. Now, to the topic. John Cena has been the WWE champ for almost a year. Most around here are divided with him. Some love, some hate. As for me, John Cena is the reason why I started watching wrestling again last year after a 3 year hiatus for it. Ive enjoyed Cena's run for the most partbut now I believe its time for him to drop the belt. Its really hard to say who he sould drop the belt to, but I believe it should be at Summerslam or at Unforgiven (give him the year I guess). Its really hard for me to say who he should drop the title to, but I say Randy Orton. I believe that this past year Orton has improved greatly with his ring work and his character work. Plus we havent seen a meaningful Cena/Orton matchup since theyve been in the E. I think it would be an entertaining fued if done correctly and would give Orton legit main event status. Well this just my two cents. Im kind of interested in here peoples thougts. P.S.- If this should be in the General discussion topic, then close please.

My NFC preseason playoff seeding for 2007. 1.New Orleans 2. Chicago 3. Seattle 4. Philadelphia 5. Green Bay 6. San Fransico Im not a big follower of the NFC, but I repicked the 2006 division winners to repeat. In the South, New Orleans will prove to be a force due their terrific offence and serviceable defense. In the North, there is no reason why the Bears cant repeat. The Packers are looking better than last year, but no good enough to outlast the Bears. Minnesota and the Lions are non factors in this division. The East in such bad shape that I had to repick Philly. Dallas didnt impress me last year, the Redskins will remain terrible and the Giants with Eli only will be either surprisingly good or god awful. In the West, I think Seattle remains king, but I think the West the year will be a dogfight. San Fransico will make the playoffs this year and the Cards and Rams will make Seattle earn their division.

I put the Chargers at number two, because I think Indy is going to tank big this season. No reason, just a gut feeling. Also there is really no way that Denver sweeps through San Diego to win the division this year. Maybe 1 for 2, but the offense is still the BEST in the league. For the record here are my preseason AFC playoff seedings 1. New England 2. San Diego 3. Baltimore 4. Jacksonville (surprise division winner) 5. Denver 6. Jets or Steelers (its really a tossup, but Im leaning towards the Jets) Agree with me or rip this to shreads

    Mark Henry's "Silverback" Gimmick/Nickname

Who really cares? Im black and I realize that WWE for what it is. Low brow entertainment. They have been doing borderline racist stuff for years and its time for fans to realize it appeals to the lowest common denominator. I dont exactly watch WWE for high end stuff. I didnt think about silverback=gorilla until I read this thread. People really need to stop getting hung up on race.

When should John Cena Drop the Belt?

I would agree with not giving Lashley the belt. I dont think hes really up to it and even capable to carry the load right now. He can barely speak, but is servicable in the ring with the right kind of worker. To me, to be the champ you have to speak when needed to and carry the load for the main event. Lashley hasnt displayed that ability at all just yet and putting the belt on him now, would set back the work they did making the WWE championship important again. The good thing about Cena's reign, is that the belt is somewhat credible and whomever he loses it to go is going to get a huge rub.

Speaking of the Chargers, can San Diego repeat their sucess from last year? All signs point to yes, but key losses on the defensive side, their weakness in the secondary, a brutal scheduel and Norv Turner say otherwise. On the other hand the offense still is very potent and remains unchaged for the most part. I wouldnt count them out, but in their division, Denver got a whole lot better. Id say an 11-5 season for the Chargers this year which would be good for the number 2 seed in my book.

    The OAO Raw 5/7/07 Thread

The term "buried" is thrown around way to much. This definetly not a burial, but a way (lame) to get the MITB off of Kennedy. Its too bad Kennedy is injured, but this gives Edge something to do that isnt involved with Cena, Orton or HBK. This could led to some interesting things in the next coming months for Edge and Mr. Kennedy. Im going to seeing how this plays before I get all mad
