    More Gay Marriage?

What the fuck are we talking about? I got lost on like page 7. And if you could, what is the argument that people in this thread don't understand. I see the same things argued over and over again. It got messy around page 4.

    More Gay Marriage?

So pbone, do you personally think it's right for a fickle majority to vote on the rights of an unprotected minority? For example, do you think that during the Civil Rights movements, that the rights of African-Americans in America should have decided by majority rules in States and not by federal legislation?

    More Gay Marriage?

And those hypothetical lawsuits should fail. There is no expectation that any Private Institution should be forced to do anything they don't want to do. Most supporters of gay marriage support that concept. The problem is when we start to legislate one's personal beliefs to prevent a group from enjoying a set of rights. It goes both ways too. I'm a relapsed Catholic, as my worldview has dramatically shifted from the Church's, but I understand why there so is much consternation on that side. I don't want to force Churches to perform marriages. But my friend, who is a lesbian, doesn't want to get married in the Catholic Church or Mormon Church. She just wants the government to recognize her and her partner as equally as the government would look upon straight couples. She doesn't want a civil union or anything less. She just wants to be fucking married to the person she loves. Who are we as society, to deny anybody the right to marry their loved one!

    More Gay Marriage?

Again though, you can't seem to separate marriage in the eyes of religion and and marriage in the eyes of the law. Marriage, more often than not, takes place in a religious setting. No debate there. There is no law requiring private institutions to perform gay marriages, that I know of. Thats fine too. Private institutions can discriminate all they want. I'm cool with that, also. What about marriages that aren't preformed in churches? That have no religious meaning. Like getting married in front of a judge in court. Would getting married in court, threaten the religious? No, right?

    More Gay Marriage?

I agree that religion and marriage are intertwined, but you can't wrap your mind the fact that marriage in the eyes of government is not religious. You get a marriage license your state, not a church. No gay persons is going to force the Mormon, Catholic etc. Church to have them married in their church. The civil rights of the religious is not the one in question. The rights of the religious were not infringed in any way when gay marriage was legal in California last year. Again marriage in the eyes of the government is not religious. The government gives couples a marriage license, not your church.

    More Gay Marriage?

Why do keep repeating the "same sex marriage will be taught in public schools" canard? As a former student and present teacher in California, nothing in any type of standards indicates that any type of marriage is taught in California public schools. It's just not true. And if people truly don't care what gay people do, why does this bother them so much?

    More Gay Marriage?

What I personally believe what the disconnect on this issue is that people, for whatever reason, can't separate their beliefs from laws. It's cool that people don't support gay marriage. People have a right to not like it. But you know what: Gay marriage isn't being forced upon you. If you don't want a gay marriage, don't get one. Simple right? California didn't turn into Sodom when its was legal for about eight months. My problem is when you legislate people legislate their beliefs on how people should act. The Constitution guarntees us equal protection under the law. That means gay and lesbians are protected under the law as well. To me, it's wrong to say one group can't do things other groups can legally do because another group personally doesn't like it.

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

Point taken, but I'm tickled to see my favorite team on Thanksgiving, regard less of record. Anyways, since when is it a rule that the Thanksgiving game has to be good? More often then not its boring anyway. I just use the game for background noise.

Believe it or not, the Raiders have a national following. Two storied franchises going at in on Thanksgiving, what else could you ask for. I don't think it's that bad.

    More Gay Marriage?

The question is not whether they can vote with their conscience or not, its a matter of amending the state constitution by a fickle popular vote. I don't give a fuck whether those who voted for Prop 8 think about gay people, it seems wrong to exclude others from rights all in society enjoy, just because a book told you so.

    More Gay Marriage?

That's spot on. It's ironic if you really think about it. Black people are socially conservative for some reason. My aunt voted Yes on 8, as well as friends.
