  1. I bought the Great American Bash 05 DVD the other night, and one of the extras is Flair vs. Sting from GAB 90.

    Favorite Rock Moment

Anything Rock from about February 98 up to the end of the Nation in about September 98. His interview from Royal Rumble 2000. Something like this... Coach: Are there any particular superstars that you're worried about? Rock: Yes, there ARE two that might give The Rock problems, and they are... Crash Holly and... Headbanger Mosh. And The Rock says if he can get by those two, he MIGHT have a shot at winning the Rumble. Just the fact that he added 'Headbanger' in instead of just saying Mosh makes it hilarious.

Tombstone: The History of the Undertaker

I got it last night and just skipped around in the first disc, so far. One nitpick: When they show a clip of WM 13, in the corner, the graphic says "WM VIII, 4/5/92, Indianapolis". Obviously a mistake, but I'm just saying. So far, I'm glad I bought it.

    The Summerslam Thread

I understand that the whole Vince in the limo shot was a joke, but I couldn't be the only one thinking how stupid it was for a bunch of girls to be washing a car in bikinis in a parking garage of an arena at night for no particular reason.

Hollywood Hogan looks PERFECT. Vader would be perfect if not for the fact that they gave him the same sized body as Yokozuna had. Vader was almost half that size.

    The Summerslam Thread

I actually liked the show from top to bottom. Probably one of the best crowds in recent memory, as they were into every match. Benoit vs. Jordan All I wanted was to see Benoit kick Jordan's ass, and he did it in 30 seconds. I do wish the match went longer, but this was a mark-out moment for me. I think Cole pointed it out nicely... Jordan's cheapshot made Benoit snap, plain and simple. Edge vs. Hardy Nothing incredible, but it was intensity, for sure. The spear through the ropes and ring post bump were both awesome, but the ending majorly sucked. Unless it actually was legit, Hardy was completely buried tonight. He failed. Miserably. I didn't even realize it was under 5 minutes until I came here, though. ** Eddie vs. Rey For those complaining about Eddie not getting the win, just think of what would have resulted from an Eddie win: Another month or two of story featuring Dominick as the centerpiece. Rey needed to win this match for the sake of all fans. Blown spots aside, I was REALLY into this match. One point.. The first time Eddie went to climb the ladder, after he layed Rey out in the aisle, he went way too slow. It was only about 2 minutes into the match. I see no reason why he couldn't have climbed much quicker... except for having to wait for Rey, of course. The 619, Rey's sunset flip powerbomb, and the 'powerbomb' all the way from the hanging briefcase were all awesome, though. Rey coming back and nailing Eddie with the briefcase was a nice touch, also. ***3/4 Angle vs. Eugene I love watching Eugene get booed, especially when JR tries to hard to defend him. As with Hardy-Edge, I didn't even realize how short it was. Eugene needs a new style, because his old school copying moves are getting old. Eugene 'tarding up to boos was great, as usual. Taker vs. Orton I'd put this on par with WM, with WM maybe being slightly above it due to better interference from Bob Orton. The tombstone sequence was cool, and I was actually unsure about whether ot not Bob was a legit fan or not. The second he came in, I was sure it was him, but as Taker stood confused and security stormed in, I wasn't sure. ***1/2 Cena vs. Jericho MOTN for me. The dueling Jericho-Cena chants were fun, and there was some good action throughout. The one thing I hated was Jericho's counter slam off the top rope into a pin (I can't remember the exact move he did)... The way the pin came off was way too sloppy. The first counter to the FU was great and could've made a great nearfall, but Jericho decided to go for the Walls? Bad move. Smart psychology would've been to try for the quick pin. It seemed like the guys were cheering for Jericho, and the girls for Cena, judging by the dueling chants, at least. The finish was perfect. I hate the actual FU, but it was a good counted by Cena. ***3/4 JBL-Batista Pretty much a nothing match overall. I mark for JBL's $100 bills, however. The 2 minute belt choke = death. Batista suddenly hitting a spinebuster and then anti-climatically hitting the Batista Bomb was lame. The powerbomb on the steps was cool though. Am I the only one who laughed at Cole's reponse to Batista tearing up the $100 bill afterward? (Batista rips it, and Cole says something like, "It must have been counterfeit!") I know he was kidding, but it was such a Tazz thing to say, that it was funny that Cole actually said it. * HBK-Hogan I wasn't paying as much attention as I should've, but it was surprisingly good from what I saw. I wasn't looking forward to this at all leading up to the show, so I was quite surprised. I wanted HBK to win since he'll be around tommorrow, but Hogan winning was no shock considering HBK has been getting the best of him for weeks. I almost began to believe Bret would come out when the Sharpshooter was busted out. The handshake was lame since it basically kills heel HBK. *** No Brock = disappointment, but everything was completely watchable and entertaining to me. I was skeptical ordering, but I'm glad that I did.

    The OAO 8/18/05 SD thread!

For the first time in months, I chose not to read the spoilers, so the show actually seemed a little more interesting than usual. I thought Benoit-Orton was a good enough match. "WOWWWWWWWW" was quite bad, though. I think it would've been better to just pull an Orton and just smile. I really feel bad for Christian. He comes out to a great ovation in his hometown, and he gets beaten down by the MEXICOOLS?! I just read on 411mania.com that he's been unhappy with WWE pulling the plug on his 'push', and how can anyone disagree with him? He gets bigger pops occasionally than half the roster and then gets jobbed out each and every week. It was bad enough being fed to Batista three times so far (not that Christian should win, but the match is pointless), but last night was rediculous. He'd better be getting some sort of revenge next week.

    Smackdown Non-Spoilers

Anyone mind posting the non-spoiler list for Velocity and SD?
  9. What was the kayfabe reason of why HBK forfeited his half of the Tag Titles with Austin in 1997?

    The Summerslam Thread

I'm totally undecided on ordering. If anything, the card is actually kind of underwhelming to me, but it does have some potential. Here's my predictions... Benoit over Jordan (FINALLY) Angle over Eugene Hardy over Edge via DQ Orton over Taker Rey over Eddie Cena over Jericho Batista over JBL Hogan over HBK Technically, Edge-Hardy should be the No Holds Barred match. But, WWE probably wants to extend the feud, so they'll probably have that Non-Sanctioned match or whatever at Unforgiven. Bold Prediction: the match this weekend will be very disappointing. I originally picked Jericho to win, but Cena needs the win after Jericho has basically gotten the best of him lately. Same goes for Hogan and HBK. Sure, HBK is going to be around longer, but Hogan will look really weak if he loses. And he can't look weak on his TV show! I'm sure HBK will have no problem doing the job. Anyone else think Lesnar might return at the end of the Batista-JBL match and F5 Batista after the bell?

    Favorite Gimmick Match?

Exactly. Add me to the I Quit and Royal Rumble list, as well. I would say Ladder matches, but it's been done to death way too much since 2000. Remember in the mid-90's when you only got one Ladder match on TV every couple of years? Now we seem to have at least 5 a year (why, there's one on Sunday!).
  12. Not a horrible Raw, but not really good either. HBK's opening interview was the obvious highlight. I was expecting a Bret tease from the start, but admittedly, once the music hit, I started to believe. I was actually expecting the Bret midget, however.
  13. I wish WWE still put out random videos/DVDs like Coliseum Video used to do, showing TV matches or house shows... stuff like "The Greatest Matches Ever" or "Smack Em, Whack Em", obviously with better names.

Will one night stand stand the test of time

I think it will stand the test of time for the most part, at least for me. All the matches were really entertaining, not classics, but entertaining nonetheless. At first, I thought it was lame having the Raw & Smackdown guys invade, but it turned out to be a really good part of the show. The crowd was one of the best parts of the show, and seeing all the WWE guys react in the balcony was hilarious. I only really watched ECW for the last two years, so I understand why it won't last the test of time for others, though. So far, I think it's PPV of the year, with WM 21 in a close second. The only things keeping WM from surpassing ONS were the weak main events.

    Movies that pleasantly surprised you

I didn't see it when it first came out in 1990, but I thought there was no way Die Hard 2 was going to be that good. I hadn't read any reviews or heard anything about it ahead of time. It's not better than the first one, but it's still an awesome movie. Jersey Girl was surprisingly entertaining, too.

The OAO Raw Thread for 08.08.05

Where did you get the idea they were trying to bury Hogan? You mean when he made Angle run away? Or the time he threw HBK out of the ring?

The OAO Raw Thread for 08.08.05

When has Benjamin actually been given an oppurtunity to show personality? Besides the few times during the Jericho feud in April and talking to Eric Bischoff backstage recently, he doesn't get too many promos.

The OAO Raw Thread for 08.08.05

And the streak of horrible Raws continues... I know it's been said for the past few weeks, but can the build for Cena-Jericho get any more cliched? Oh no, the evil GM "unpredictably" made the handicap match for next week! Seriously, when is Bischoff going to name himself as the referee for the PPV? Who did Shelton Benjamin piss off to get this kind of treatment. Ever since the week before Vengeance, Benjamin has been BURIED. Technically, he's 2-2 with Carlito, but I wouldn't really call a countout and DQ wins since he didn't get the job done of getting back his mid-card title. Their feud is apparently finished, considering they've had no interaction the past two weeks. So, Shelton loses a handicap match to Masters one week. Fine. His team won last week, but it was really Big Show that won the match, as Shelton was destroyed by Masters & Snitsky for that isolation period. Tonight, he loses to the Masterlock, again? Okay, WWE, we get the point... Shelton Benjamin sucks. At least the Diva Search is over next week. Nothing horribly offensive this week. THEY SURE NEVER PLANNED ON BEING HIT IN THE FACE WITH A PIE!!!!!11 It was probably already mentioned, but I guess Hogan wants to get his job back from Angle next week? Speaking of Angle, I loved hearing the crowd tear into Eugene. Just awesome. I thought Edge's promo was actually really good, and that'd be the highlight of the night. I'll just add that main event interviews really suck.

    Hell's Kitchen

I mentioned it in a thread in the WWE folder, but I was glad Michael won. Ralph just kept getting on my nerves for whatever reason. His restaurant did look better than Michael's, though.

    You Sold Out chants...

It's been said numerous times, but he really didn't sell out. Bob already pointed out that he went for less money, but all he wanted to do was, as cheesy as it sounds, be happy. At the time, he was really stressed out with the schedule, so he followed a dream. Sure, I would have preferred he stayed, but I'm not pissed at him. It's not like he walked out the day of WM, either. I think he gave at least two weeks notice.
  23. I saw it. I wouldn't say it turns into a cartoonish caricature. It just made him seem really rediculous, in a good way. It looks like a heel turn like Jericho's in 1998, if anything. The beginning was nothing much, but when he said "help me get my... err, I mean... OUR title back", it sounded like they really are turning him. This had better lead to a series of videos of London single handedly protesting outside of WWE HQ, with all the random corporate people looking at him like he was crazy. Imagine London just picketing, then some intern starts walking to the entrance. London runs toward him and gets in his face with a mega phone. I'd love to see something like this lead to a heel turn. I mean let's face it, London has yet to really get over as a face. He gets pops for his high spots occasionally, but that's it. Give London some kind of character, even if it is whiny heel to start.

    Bret Hart meeting WWE

I wouldn't mind seeing HHH or HBK talk in the main feature, limited to a minute or two. Negative or positive, it could be interesting. You have to assume others will be speaking for a minute or two about Bret, likely Benoit, Jericho, and maybe even Taker (although it would be odd given the character). If Bret is inducted into next year's HOF, I'd love to see Austin induct him.
  25. Well, for anyone who wants to see it later, it's at 7 PM ET due to Ultimate Fight Night. I'll definitely check it out.
