  1. WWF @ East Rutherford, NJ - Meadowlands - June 8, 1987 (4,000) Koko B. Ware won a 20-man bunkhouse battle royal Danny Davis defeated George Steele via count-out Butch Reed defeated Outback Jack Killer Khan defeated Cpl. Kirschner Rick Martel & Tom Zenk defeated Bob Orton Jr. & Don Muraco Koko B. Ware defeated Iron Mike Sharpe One Man Gang defeated SD Jones The Islanders defeated Pedro Morales & Tito Santana Ron Bass defeated Lanny Poffo Yikes, doesn't sound too good. I'm surprised that they were in East Rutherford, NJ, though, since that's the closest location (besides Atlantic City) that they ever come to for me.

Official Royal Rumble 05 Entrance List

Credit: PWInsider.com So, I think it's a safe bet that Hurricane and London won't be in the Rumble match. The tag team match is a toss-up, but I'd say Holly & Haas win if only because Holly and Puder have to have some sort of confrontation in the match.

    Are We There Yet?

Care to explain this one? I think it goes something like this. Storm and Christian were driving on the road somewhere in the south, and they are behind a van that has a banner that says "We love Amy". They thought it would be funny to make a "We hate Amy" banner and pull up beside the car. But they thought Amy might be a sick child or something, so they forgot about it. A few minutes later, they pulled up on the side of the car anyway and got more info: Amy was actually some girl on USA's "Nashville Star". Another banner said something like, "Vote Amy on Nashville Star". So, Storm and Christian immediately reconsidered and made the "We hate Amy" sign.

The OAO Jakks Classic Superstars Thread

I picked up Yokozuna the other night. It's an awesome figure, although the head is small. Bret Hart's head is actually bigger. It's no big deal, though. Besides, he comes with the winged eagle World Title. I'll be picking up Piper and Hillbilly Jim soon, also.

Your top 10 matches of 2004

    1. Brock Lesnar vs. Eddie Guerrero (No Way Out) 2. Royal Rumble Match (Royal Rumble) 3. HHH vs. Chris Benoit vs. HBK (WM XX) 4. Randy Orton vs. Mick Foley (Backlash) 5. Bullrope Match - Eddie Guerrero vs. JBL (Great American Bash) 6. Chris Benoit vs. HHH vs. HBK (Backlash) 7. Eddie Guerrero vs. Kurt Angle (WM XX) 8. The Rock & Mick Foley vs. Evolution (WM XX) 9. Chris Jericho vs. Christian (WM XX) 10. Chris Benoit vs. Randy Orton (Summerslam) Honorable Mention for the final spot goes to Orton vs. Benjamin at Bad Blood, which I loved at the time. I thought both HBK-Benoit matches were really good, but I haven't seen them in a long time. Plus, the second match, which I remember liking better, had a horrible finish.

The OAO Jakks Classic Superstars Thread

Series 3 Bret is modeled exactly after Wrestlemania VIII, with the all-pink tights. It actually says Hitman on the back, and he does have his knee pads, elbow pads, and pink sunglasses. The only flaw is that he comes with the current IC Title, but at least the old school one came out in Series 4. Overall, I'd say Series 3 is better. At KB, I put a Yokozuna and Hillbilly Jim aside in the back last week. The other day, as I was ringing someone up on register, one of the managers walks up with my figures and sells them to someone. Despite telling her I put them aside for myself, she just acted confused and sold them. Idiot.

Worst match of the year 2004....

I'd definitely agree with this. It's about 5 minutes of stalling (Chavo slaps Eddie a few times... Eddie is shocked each time), and then about 8 minutes in, Eddie hits his triple suplex, and anti-climatically hits the Frog Splash. Then, Eddie beats him down for what seems like forever, post-match. Very disappointing, especially considering that they had a decent match the night after No Way Out. I wasn't expecting a classic, but at least something decent since this was being built for months. By the way, Eddie-Brock is also my MOTY, followed by the Rumble, and then the WM 3-Way.

Worst match of the year 2004....

My candidates right away... Billy Gunn vs. Kenzo Suzuki (GAB) Tyson Tomko vs. Steven Richards (Unforgiven) HHH vs. HBK (Bad Blood) Taker vs. Dudleys (GAB) Of the four, I'd pick Tomko vs. Richards, because what they were doing in the ring had no place on a PPV. They literally killed the crowd. Close second is Gunn vs. Suzuki, though. I put HHH-HBK on there only because it bored me to tears. No matter what I hear about any possible psychology or smart booking about this match, I'm still bored watching these two slowwwwwly brawl. The big spot of the match came off looking quite lame, too.. not that it should have been off the top of the cage or something, but the spot just didn't look right. I was, however, impressed that they kept the ENTIRE 50 minutes inside the cage.

Brock Lesnar Ready To Make WWE Return?

I can understand Vince and everyone else being pissed at Brock for leaving, but how can Vince not want him back? This is a man who rehired Sable and Hulk Hogan, not to mention hired Eric Bischoff. We already went through the fresh matches we could see if he goes to Raw, but even if he doesn't, Smackdown could desperately use him. This is somewhat of a downer if it's true. Funny about HHH spreading the resentment on behalf of WWE, though.

    2004 Gooker Nominations!

I wanted to say the whole Kane-Lita marriage/pregnancy, but that angle at least introduced the world to SNITSKY. I didn't even realize there was this much crap from this year. Overall, I'd vote the diva search. This had cum guzzling gutter sluts, "My BUTT's hungry," seducing Kamala, and much more.

Futures of WWE Lower Card Members

Since neither are doing anything, I wouldn't mind seeing a team of Scotty 2 Hotty & Shannon Moore. Both are decent in the ring, and the crowds generally love Scotty. Not to mention, WWE is in desperate need of tag teams.

    Rowe's first ever video review.

I'm a little late on commenting, but you left out the best part of the plot holes to the Haas-Luther match: WWE.com announced it the day before the PPV.

    New Year Revoloution Card

The undercard will most definitely be only about 5 matches due to the main eventers all being in the main event. So, the EC will most likely go longer than the last one at Summerslam 03, around 40 minutes, again. But, I liked the long Survivor Series 02 match better than Summerslam's short match, so I don't mind.

    OAO Armageddon Thread.

Predictions, with predicted star ratings... WWE Title: 4-Way Usually, when the announcers hype the fact that the heel champion is at a major disadvantage with THREE challengers, the heel automatically walks out the champion. But, I think they want the belt off JBL without him actually jobbing. Really, I can see anyone winning. Looking ahead to WM, I think they want Cena to win the title, so who's the best bet for a Cena title match. Better than JBL would be Angle since they have an unsettled history. So, I figure Eddie wins the title here and jobs it to Angle at the Rumble in a "Final Encounter" match, similar to HHH-HBK at Bad Blood (no cage, not that long, and they can fight again in a few months). Prediction: Eddie **1/2 tops U.S. Title Cena vs. Jesus I love the way the match reads on paper... they couldn't given Jesus a last name or something? Anyway, Cena wins, no doubt in my mind. Prediction: Cena *1/2 tops Tag Team Titles RVD & Rey vs. Dupree & Kenzo The match on Smackdown really hurt any anticipation for this match. Normally, logic would say that the heels get the titles back, but RVD & Rey work so well as a team right now, it would be horrible to break them up. Plus, do we really want Rey back in the Cruiserweight title picture... again? Prediction: RVD & Rey ***1/2 tops... most definitely lower Big Show vs. Team Angle There should be no way Show is able to beat three guys. But this is WWE, and Show is winning at house shows. Still, I think they work Show's ankle the entire match, and Show taps out to the Ankle Lock. Prediction: Team Angle * tops Cruiserweight Title Spike vs. Funaki I'm happy that Funaki's finally on a PPV (not counting his WMXX appearance). There's no way they're giving Spike's big loss to a comedy guy like Funaki, though. I figure they tease a Funaki win big time by giving him some major offense the entire match, but in the end, Spike wins via cheating. Prediction: Spike *** Dawn vs. Jackie I think that Dawn will cheat, and Haas will miss it, and reluctantly count the pin, making Jackie suspicious. Seriously, whenever it seems obvious that someone is going to turn heel like this, WWE never actually goes through with it. Prediction: Dawn DUD TE Boxing Match I really don't care, but Puder will kill Miz. Prediction: Puder Overall, the show looks horrible on paper. I predict it will be nothing special, but it won't be worse that Judgment Day or GAB.
  15. A Christmas Story is definitely my favorite for the holidays, but Christmas Vacation is definitely right behind it, although, I don't believe I've seen it for a few years. Anyone else like Jingle All the Way? Sure, it's by no means a classic or anything, but I enjoyed it, nonetheless. I watched a few weeks ago, and while not as good as I remembered, it was watchable.

    This Monday's Battle Royal...

To me, Edge is one of the few interesting characters on Raw, right now. For the first time since returning, I actually like him. Now if he gets rid of his hideous tights, he's set. I don't know what was wrong with the old ones. You have to figure that the HHH-Batista feud will somehow be teased, again, one way or another. Now if they wanted to go all out, they could have it come down to HHH & Batista vs. someone like Benoit. Evolution eliminates Benoit, and then HHH expects Batista to basically jump over the top. Batista thinks for a minute, and he ends up fighting.

    My Best of WWE 2004

WRESTLER OF THE YEAR Chris Benoit RAW was all about Benoit from the Rumble onto about June, when he took a backseat to HHH, HBK, Eugene, and Orton. Out of everyone, he probably delivered the most good matches this year, and I loved his run from the Rumble onto Backlash. Eddie was a close second, and he had to feud with Bradshaw for months. I was an Orton fan from the very beginning of the year up until about 2 weeks into his face turn. Now I can't stand his character. TAG TEAM OF THE YEAR La Resistance They might as well have been the only normal team on Raw, except for the Dudleys who went to Smackdown in April. I loved their Tag Title win in Quebec, and their extended run with the belts made them actually seem credible. NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR Gene Snitsky Too many horrible newcomers this year. Tomko still sucks, Kenzo improved a LITTLE, I hate Eugene, and Luther still does nothing for me. Meanwhile, while Snitsky isn't exactly above many of the above, he's at least entertaining. Sure, he is basically a joke to everyone, but he punts baby dolls into the crowd. Now if he would only start saying "It's not my fault!" more often... MOST IMPROVED WRESTLER Batista Christian is about the same good wrestler he's been all along, IMO, just without as many restholds. Bradshaw definitely has a great gimmick, but his in-ring skills aren't good enough to be called most improved. I think Orton's about the same as he was all year almost. It comes down to Shelton and Batista. The thing with Shelton is that he didn't improve nearly as much as Batista because he's always been on this level since the WGTT days. Batista has improved leaps and bounds both as a character and in the ring. FINISHER OF THE YEAR Kidman’s Shooting Star Press By the end of the year, I began to hate the RKO, if only because of Orton's extended arm pose before he does it. Nothing great this year except the SSP which is basically treated like death on Smackdown. ANGLE OF THE YEAR Chris Benoit’s journey to the World Title Just a great story from the beginning, starting in December 2003 with Brock and Heyman up until beating both HHH and HBK again at Backlash 2004. I was really skeptical about Benoit randomly going to Raw after winning the Rumble instead of going after Brock, but it was alot better than I thought it would've. I would've loved to see Brock vs. Benoit II at WM XX, though. In retrospect, had Benoit actually stayed on Smackdown, then Eddie would've likely been kept in the mid-card for another few months at least. Weird... FEUD OF THE YEAR Mick Foley vs Randy Orton While I loved Benoit's journey to the title, I never actually cared for the set-up to the 3-way at WM. HBK falsley signs a contract and he gets the right that the winner of the Royal Rumble gets? As we all said back in March, remind me to steal a WWE contract so I can get into a big match like that. Now, onto Foley-Orton. It was built perfectly from the start. I marked out for Foley entering the Rumble and taking out Orton. The handicap match at WM was great, and the match at Backlash was a perfect blowoff that put Orton over HUGELY with almost everyone. This was a feud that actually made total sense and was given a solid build of about four months. Now we're usually lucky to get a feud with over a one month build. MATCH OF THE YEAR The 2004 Royal Rumble Match (Royal Rumble 2004) I was there live in the front row, and it was just a great experience. I've watched it on tape many times since then and I still call it the best Rumble ever, even better than 1992. The match had many great moments, including Benoit & Orton lasting long, Foley eliminating Orton, Brock F5ing Goldberg, Angle tossing Goldberg, and Big Show dominating everyone. Show's monster role was played to perfection, eliminating Cena, RVD, Jericho, Angle, but not Benoit, who smartly managed to eliminate Show. The final ten minutes are just incredible. The five matches listed here are probably my Top 5 matches for 2004, with Eddie-Brock taking a CLOSE second. TV MATCH OF THE YEAR Chris Benoit vs Shawn Michaels (Monday Night RAW - May 2004) Uh, HHH-HBK happened in 2003, so I threw that one out. Jericho-Christian in the cage was good, but overrated. I think you mean the Showdown in the Desert HBK-Benoit match, but that happened in early May, not April. It was a great TV main event, given a good build that Benoit couldn't beat HBK, going back to their first match in March. The only bad part was obviously HHH's interference. PAY-PER-VIEW OF THE YEAR Wrestlemania XX Nothing else except Backlash came close, unless Armageddon really surprises everyone, but not likely. The show was definitely too long, but the 3-way, Angle-Eddie, Jericho-Christian, and the Handicap match are all worth it. The entire show had an epic feel, and seeing Benoit win the title was a great moment. Backlash had the same 3-way and Foley-Orton, but nothing else. WM gets the nod.

And the best PPV theme song for 2004 was...?

With the exception of the Rumble's song, which was used perfectly in the Rumble video package, just about every song sucked this year, especially "Crossing Borders" from NWO.

Old school shows of the week #6

Ordering KOTR 97 was one of my birthday presents that year, so that means that it was actually on 6/8, not 6/9. With the one exception of HBK-Austin, the show was horrible, and it didn't even have a finish, but it was understandable to keep both strong. Moment of the night: During the Goldust-Crush match, when D'Lo & Clarence Mason are going after Marlena, and Goldust is sneaking up from behind, Crush (off camera) starts sneaking up on Goldust. All the kids in the nearby section starting yelling, "Goldust! Behind you! Goldust behind you!" One then gives one final plea: "BEHIND YOU GOLDUST!" But it's too late, and Crush gets the advantage ... Seriously though, it's hilarious.
