Well...Buffalo has done exaclty what I expected (losing in Ottawa and winning the other 3). I hate Pittsburgh...and I loathe Lemieux...so seeing him go -3 tonight put a huge smile on my face.
-
Whatever. If the loss of Raven leads to more time for actual talented workers...then I'm all for it. He was given top treatment on the only other national show in town. If that's not good enough for him...nothing will be. He's Waltman...with fans.

When I saw the thread I was going to post "It's all about Veronica Mars" but then saw that someone already used that exact phrase... ... I'll be buying Arrested Development, Veronica Mars and South Park

Samoa Joe vs. Jushin Liger Ultimate X: Matt Bentley vs. Chris Sabin vs. Petey Williams 30 minute Iron Man rematch: AJ Styles vs. Christopher Daniels ... Methinks they'll push the X division plenty in the Spike TV era.

Yeah I know. It was just annoying the way things played out here. For a few years we were told that we wouldn't spend money to compete...but a cap was coming and it would level the playing field. Then the cap comes. Now...the Sabres already had their core team under affordable contracts...so I understand why they didn't go after a bunch of guys... BUT...it was a little hard to swallow when we get a cap...and we lose our best defensemen and our top goal scorer anyway. I like our offense. I hate our defense (although I'm very happy to be 2-0 and know that our best defensemen hasn't even played yet). And I'm super shaky on the goaltending. We're going to lose tonight in Ottawa.

Living in Buffalo...where for whatever reason we decide to spend a lot less than the salary cap... I do have to at the very least commend the organization for having what resembles a plan. For 2 years (3 including the lockout) we were told to support the team until the new rules and CBA were in place. They built a team for speed and skill based on the idea that it would all change eventually. I think Boston is a playoff team. But they do look slow...as did the Islanders...because the cheap ass Buffalo brass wanted speed. So far...it's working. For the first time ever...I'm seeing something out of guys that couldn't cut it with the clutch and grab New Jersey style system.

AMW? And also...I don't care how big Styles was in Wildside...and if he appeared in RoH... TNA put him on TV and made him their goldenboy.

At least we have future superstar Thomas Vanek. Really annoying watching Crosby being highlighted for a run of the mill assist...and then not seeing so much as one moment on Vanek's beautiful pass for his first point.

How'd that work out for you?

Amen to that

Well I'm going to see Serenity again at 7:35 tonight. I won't tell you all how many times that will make it for me and Serenity. I will simply say that I am the king of the nerds this weekend.

The Serenity movie thread

Hey Rudo, I think you'll like the opening much better on a second viewing. The first time I saw it...it took me about 30 mintues to get into the movie. In fact I warned the people I took to the 2nd screening that the opening was awkward. But the second time I saw it...it wasn't. In fact it's a pretty nice crawl to the title screen after you've seen it once. -
Flightplan? Seriously? Is that what we're doing now? God I hate people.

Interesting Article on First Taping

6 sided ring...a positive. If only because it makes them look different without getting in the way of anything. Set changes...who cares? 90% of the show is spent looking at the ring or backstage anyway. -
The Serenity movie thread

I find all of Serenity to be ironic. Whereas most previews look bad because the movie is bad...the Serenity previews are bad because there is no way to sell this movie in a short spot. I've seen the movie...and these previews are bad...but I couldn't cut one together. I just know that I sat in a theater for 2 hours and was so entertained that I feel compelled to tell you to go as well. And I never do that. -

Question. Would you have to watch Firefly to understand this movie or could you just watch it on its own and not have a problem. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You can watch it without seeing the show...and get most of it. What you'll miss is the depth of character that is gained in 14 episodes...and at most 2 moments that are payoffs to the show's fans. On it's own merits...it rocks the kasbah -

I saw the second showing I attended with 3 people who hadn't seen the show...and a couple of them made fun of me for liking Buffy. They both bought the Firefly series after seeing the movie. The other was my best friends girlfriend...so she just watched his. She's a cunt. -
Bad week for the AFC East. Or a good week for the Dolphins... Pennington, Harrison and Spikes done for the year.

I disagree, slightly. It's easier to play heel than face. And these two have been playing face for over 3 years...and they've put on some pretty good tag matches. The fact that they have little personality makes me think they'll be better a heels. At the very least...it's a fresh spin on the tag division. Part of this comes from the fact that they are bigger (physically) then the Naturals or Team Canada (Or Aries/Strong, Kazarian/Bentley if TNA opts that way) and should be the heels... And the other part is that the Dudleys and the Old Age James Gang will be faces to the crowd. AMW is the solid staple of the tag team division. With the Duds coming in, the NAO reuniting (in theory) storyline dictates that they turn.

If Waltman hadn't gone wacko I'd imagine that he'd be rematching Lynn. But he did go wacko. So I don't know. Shame too...their first match was Waltman's best in a ridculously long stretch of years. They should make him job to Shelley.

What are Raven and Monty (2 guys that are noticebly left out of the Monsters Ball match...where'd they'd fit in) going to be doing? I hope they make the NWA title match a 4 way...since these are the top contenders...storyline wise. If they were smart (and they pretty much are outside of the main events...) they'd have Ortiz cost JJ the title again (to either Raven or Brown) so they can do Ortiz/Jarrett later.

Joe pretty much has to go over since they're banking on his one on one rematch with Styles to carry a future show.

"If Cena was having matches in TNA, we'd probably be a hell of a lot more impressed with him than what we're seeing right now." WHAT THE FUCK? 1. As a preface...I've never thought Masters was as bad as many here have...I just think his mic work was ridiculous...and they had him talk before non-matches. In the last 2 months I've seen him not be an terrible. If that's enough for a thumbs up...than good on him... 2. Cena blows. His gimmick is almost 2 years stale for TV. When cities get a show once a year...of course he still gets pops...but the business has changed. There is a reason that Austin is bigger than Hogan (seperate argument for a seperate thread...but still...) 3. If Cena was having matches in TNA he'd be blown out of the water moreso than he is on RAW. How has no one been watching these friggin ppvs? The same people that complain about bad wrestling...DON'T WATCH THESE PPVS. Outside of 3 HBK matches in this calender year (2 vs. Angle, 1 vs. Benjamin) TNA has shit all over the WWE product this year. If Cena were having these matches in TNA he wouldn't be over...because they run in front of the same fans every week. And his weak punches (as a brawler) and stale as all get out gimmick would be poo-pooed on. He's not the Rock. The Rock was entertaining.

Part of the reason that Styles, Jarrett and AMW are always at the top of those divisions has to be because the company keeps having to hit the reset button. A little over a year ago all 3 were reset at the top of their spots when Impact debuted on FSN. Now they're hitting Spike. At least they turned AMW heel. I've been asking for that for a year now. On Styles...He's clearly a placeholder champion for Joe. Meltzer wrote that they thought about putting the title on Joe at Unbreakable...but with them heading to TV it would be hard to explain why a guy twice everyone elses size is the champion of what looks like a cruiser division. He also said that the plan seems to be Joe/Liger at BFG...which is awesome for Joe...but leaves me wondering if we're heading towards Styles/Daniels...again. Of Jarrett...I've got nothing. If Brown doesn't pounce him and pin him on the first Impact...I've just got nothing.

Christopher Daniels Vs. Samoa Joe Vs. AJ Styles
The Ghost of bps21 replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in TNA Wrestling
I think Meltzer rates matches in the same way that I do (and I base this solely on his defending the XXX/AMW cage match at Turning Point as a great match...despite of the many ridiculous moments it has)...and that is just by sitting back and seeing how much fun it is to watch. That 3 way may be the best match in TNA's history. It loses a lot after the belt shot. It loses focus and becomes AJ/Daniels part 1,000,000 after a point... But it's pure entertainment from start to finish. TNA's purpose with their matches is to provide fast paced entertainment throughout. And this 3 way may be the best they've come at achieving that goal.
