"A second executive order formally bans torture by requiring that the Army field manual be used as the guide for terror interrogations. The order essentially ends the Bush administration's CIA program of enhanced interrogation methods" It annoys me that we had to have an exectuive order to tell people to do things legally and literally by the book. ...

bob's absolutely right about the way that song hits you in the trailer. Even the commercial that's running right now is moving because of that song.

"This thread wasn't about mega-threads per se. I just wanted a reasonable explanation as to why Obama's inauguration, arguably the biggest news item in the past couple of months, couldn't have its own thread" Because one wasn't started until 10 minutes before the event when everyone who wanted to discuss it already was doing so in the thread that they like using. Not everyone hates megathreads...which is why no one else started a new thread.

If they're going to put Mazeroski in for being the best defensive second basemen...then Kent should go for his offense.

MIA is the same person that sang the song from the Pineapple Express trailer that was a big hit. That song was actually in Slumdog too. And yes...she got nominated for an oscar today.
-
I think his point is that people in CE that use megathreads don't go to the Sports folder and complain about the...megathreads...
-
Now that some of my batman fanboyism has subsided... Springsteen not getting nominated is kind of shockingly wrong.
-
YES.

That scene was the one thing I liked about the movie. It's funny because I just had a conversation with my friend at work a few days ago where I told him the movie is awful...but there's this one awesome scene where he goes off on his boss and keyboards his friend.

I just saw Wanted. I intesenly disliked that movie.
-
I had kind of prepared myself for like...Doubt getting that 5th spot. All 3 actors got nominations and the Academy loves Streep and Hoffman... But the FUCKING Reader???
-
Well...perhaps I was a bit hasty....
-
That's exactly what kills me bob. The Reader has no chance at winning...and neither would Dark Knight. So why nominate the movie no one saw when you can make people feel like your award show is relevent to what people who watch movies actually think? And it's not like you'd be nominating some mindless big budget summer popcorn film...it was one of the best reviewed movies of the year. Let's do a little rottentomatoes search: The Reader - 60% (seriously. SIXTY percent of reviewers thought it was good) The Curious Case of Benjamin Button - 72% Frost/Nixon - 91% Milk - 92% Slumdog Millionaire - 95% Muthafuckin Batman - 94%

I find this more annoying than most years. Usually the stuff I like most that year doesn't get nominated...but it's fine because I understand that the things I like don't fit that mold. This year I liked one of the best reviewed movies of the year, that got nominations from all of the guilds, and made a BILLION dollars...and the Bruce Springsteen song from a fantastic indy flick.
-
Norbit broke the mold for shitty movies getting nominations. ... At least I get to see Downey Jr.'s sad face when Ledger wins his oscar.
-
Dark Knight ended up with, what is it...8 nominations? So everything about it is great. But it's too popular.
-
Jesus, even Springsteen didn't get a nomination. If it wasn't for Rourke and Ledger this would have been a complete bust for me
-
I think what needs to happen is that Kate Winslet and Cate Blanchett need to die so that movies that they aren't in can get nominations.
-
The douche on E just explained to me that Button would win best picture because it made "so much money. Over 100 million dollars!!!" which, he tells me, is what it takes. Yep.
-
Enjoy your low ratings again, Oscar.
-
Also that great American Rush Limbaugh is openly hoping for the President's failure. I see no redeeming qualities in the people the right look to.
-
That...doesn't even make sense.
-
I went and saw this on Sunday. I enjoyed it. Not the best movie of the year...but Clint was awesome.
-
I just watched it. I liked it. Good movie. I didn't like it as much as Dark Knight or Frost/Nixon...but if it wins best picture I won't be angry or anything. Interesting way to tell a story.

Titles or Talent: What's More Important?
The Ghost of bps21 replied to Cheech Tremendous's topic in Sports
It's not a one on one event. It has to be talent to the individual player becuase it is the collection of talent that wins titles. If you take Tom Brady (healthy and in his prime) and his 3 titles and put him on the 2008 Lions...guess who's not winning a title. If you take the Patriots team and move them to Detriot they win the NFC North in a walk.
