    What Killed "SNICK" for You?

Yeah, obviously. The SNICK concept was just starting to take hold by the time that I deemed it no longer acceptable for me to watch Nickelodeon. I remember really disliking Roundhouse, for some reason. Say, dudes, help me out here: I frequently find myself referencing the old Nickelodeon game show where the contestants actually went inside of popular video games. Alas, I cannot for the life of me remember what this show was called. What was it?

I can't believe you pussies couldn't finish the whole goddamn video. You missed the part where the one with the headband wakes up and the whole thing was a dream.

So I d/led the Stiff Records box set last night. I'm sort of half-drunkenly in love with Wreckless Eric's "Whole Wide World." There's also this sort of crappy slowed-down version of "Blank Generation." So if that isn't a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is. Actually, the whole thing is pretty good. A little reliant on familiar Nick Lowe/Costello/Damned/Ian Dury songs, but if you don't know those it'll be a real revelation.

There probably isn't any shame in that. Maybe there should be.

    LOST

You would think that Jacob would have to be an established character for the reveal to have any sort of impact, but who knows? I've seen it speculated that Jacob is actually a time-skipping Jack, which would (I guess) explain the presence of Christian and Claire in the cabin. I do like that we're starting to get some questions answered already this season. We now know that Widmore was on the island as a young man, and can surmise that Ellie is Faraday's mother/Desmond's jewelry store woman/the old lady in the church with Ben. So, y'know, we're getting somewhere now.

Really? And to think that I could have been watching a show about Bruce Jenner's step-daughter all this time. Has she used her dubious fame to try to insinuate herself into the more respected areas of entertainment, a la Paris Hilton? I wouldn't think that you could coast on having a big ass and fucking 3rd string running backs all your life and expect to stay famous.

But how do you get a reality show if no one knows who you are? I think that this is the problem I'm having here. Don't tell me that she got the E! show because she fucked Ray J, and that he in turn eventually got this reality show for having fucked her.

It was indeed Ray J that I was thinking of. So who is Kim Kardashian? I'm aware that she was at some point linked with Heisman Trophy winner and NFL bust Reggie Bush and also that she had some sort of awful reality show on E!, but I'm not exactly sure who she is.

While watching the Lisa "Left Eye" Lopez RocDoc last night, I saw a commercial for an upcoming "_____ of Love" series featuring some black guy I've never heard of. Can somebody (possibly Byron the Bulb) please identify that black guy for me?

    Future HOFers on Your Team

I want to say that Derrick Brooks and John Lynch will definitely make it. Warren Sapp has a shot, Ronde Barber likely does not. On the basketball side of things, Tim Duncan is a sure-thing first ballot guy. Other than that, no one.

    WWE Raw - January 26, 2009

That last segment was terrible, wasn't it? I echo the sentiments of the guy who said it might have come off better if Shane had been using some sort of weapon, rather than throwing those horrible looking punches. Still, it seems to lead us down the road to a McMahon turn of some kind and loads of weird and unnecessary overbooking, when all anyone really wants to see is Randy Orton kick someone in the head and then pose. But, given how promising the angle looked at the beginning, I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for another few weeks.

TSM Wrestling Spotlight: The Big Show

YOU KNOW SOMETHING KURT ANGLE DUDE One of the all time classics. I recently watched this again and could not stop laughing, even if it's almost 9 years old now. It's funny stuff, but what did it really do for him in the long run? Don't ask why, but I was recently watching some of the Angle-Austin stuff from 2001 and found myself thinking that it was really funny, but it's pretty obvious in retrospect why it completely tanked their business. At some point, the writers forgot that they were writing a wrestling show and not MadTV skits. Same deal with Big Show's comedy segments. That sort of stuff is much better suited to a guy like Charlie Haas, who isn't ever going to draw a dime, but can get a cheap pop and remain employed by being a comedy sideshow.

TSM Wrestling Spotlight: The Big Show

That was neat, but him inadvertantly winning the match for Austin really set the tone for what's been a fairly lousy career for him in WWE. The general consensus in late 98/early 99 was that McMahon could make this guy a monster heel and that he'd be a perfect foil for Austin, but none of that ever really materialized. I mean, they were teasing a face turn almost immediately upon his debut, and he's since gone on to make dozens of inexplicable turns that have totally ruined his character in WWE. Same deal with Kane.

    Royal Rumble 2009

Sort of predictable finish to the Rumble, but I gave it a decent fistpump anyway. This will hopefully set them up to do some fairly interesting stuff with Orton leading up to WM, although it all does sort of feel like we're on an inexorable march toward some McMahon joining Legacy. Nevertheless. It was a little hard to gauge bouncing from stream to stream, but it didn't seem like any of the singles matches were anything special. I liked the endings to both title matches, though.
  16. We've all had this experience: you're having a friendly conversation at a party, orgy, beheading, or other social event. Things are going just fine. Then, suddenly, two or more of the people you're conversing with start discussing something that you couldn't possibly be less interested in. You start to lose focus. Your eyes glaze over. You smile and nod politely, but you're really focusing on an exit strategy. What does this to you? For me, it's: -Cars. Anything to do with cars. I couldn't care less. -Stereo equipment. Also, musician's equipment. Many's the time that I've been run off by a couple of undesirables discussing the FartHammer 757 ExciteX sub-woofer or whatever the fuck. It's boring. -Any detailed account of someone's job. Unless you're a lion tamer, no one cares. Your office or lab job isn't even interesting to other people who work in offices or labs.

List things that don't interest you

Do you often find yourself in the company of Brendan Fraser fanatics? I can't say that this has happened to me. It's too bad, really; I have a compelling and potentially career-resurrecting idea for Mr. Fraser. Hear me out on this one, okay? We reboot the Encino Man franchise. That's it. We just make a new Encino Man. Pretend like the other one never happened.

A little further investigation reveals that it isn't a joke, but is the sort of unrepentantly loathsome product that can only come from L.A.

Well, I watched the whole thing. I wish that I hadn't. Part of me wonders if that's a joke, while another part wonders if that was Steve Nash on the keytar.

    2009: The Year in Music

I mostly understand where you're coming from on that, but I recently took a liking to Strawberry Jam and therefore had some mildly high hopes for the new album. I echo Edwin's sentiments about the tempo of the album. Everything sounded sort of same-y on first listen, and worse yet sounded pretty generic and mostly uninteresting. But I never like anything the first time I hear it, so I'll reserve any sort of real judgment until I listen to the thing a few times.

    The 2009 NFL Offseason

I can't imagine that the Chiefs would take Crabtree in that spot. They have an awful lot of weak areas on that team, and taking the Matt Millen approach to the draft isn't going to help improve those areas. I don't think Arizona's success with two 1st round WRs is going to inspire a lot of copycats, especially considering that they could end up having to let Boldin go before too long. Does anybody really think that Sanchez is going to be all that good as a pro? Kansas City already has a few young QBs to compete for that spot, and since Sanchez is far from a sure thing I'd suggest that it would be a mistake to take him so early. Go for either an offensive lineman or a running back. I would imagine that either Knowshown Moreno or Beanie Wells are going to shoot up draft boards after the combine, so one of those guys could end up being the pick. Edit: In looking at a couple of different mock drafts, there seems to be no real consensus on Sanchez right now. Some drafts have him going somewhere in the middle of rd 1, some have him higher up, some have him out of the first round all together. I really think he'd be a reach in the first round, but the dearth of QB options this year dictates that some needy team will draft him early. Possibly the 49ers or the Jets.

Anyone have an opinion on the new Animal Collective? I'm listening to it for the first time right now. I'm not nuts about it so far. "My Girls" is good, though.
