Hating "Build Me Up Buttercup" is pretty inexplicable, if you ask me. It's inoffensive, and I actually enjoyed its use in the ending sequence of There's Something About Mary. Of all the terrible songs out there, '60s songs or otherwise, why the vitriol for that one? And you just know that Agent's going to contract some sort of disease in Puerto Rico, so I'll never be able to ask him.

But y'know, this certainly isn't limited to songs from the 60s. For instance, my initial thought here was "Dream Weaver," the mere mention of which is enough to send me into a bloodthirsty rampage for days on end. But it was released in 1976, and therefore would not qualify.

So after months of largely fruitless job searching, I got two calls for interviews this morning. Quite good news, but I'm definitely feeling the few extra beers that I had last night. My problem is that I've never had a hangover cure, really. I consider the hangover to be a sort of punishment for enjoying myself, and therefore just suck it up and take it like a man (meaning that I just stay in bed all day). But because I have to actually pull myself together and be presentable to a couple of prospective employers later this afternoon, I'm drinking water like a motherfucker and will probably have a large lunch. Possibly a giant sandwich.A quick follow-up: I got the job! Imma be holding a sign by the side of the road for ten dollars an hour.

My bracket is awful. I had UNC beating Memphis in the championship game, so half of that is fucked straightaway. But what's really curious to me is how Mr. I Didn't Watch Any Games manages to post a respectable bracket each year. I didn't watch any games, either! What's your secret, Dan?

I really don't see why it would be necessary to add two regular season games, as I really think that everything about the schedule is perfect as is. But if they were going to do it, I would also advocate stretching the season out to 20 weeks and giving each team an additional bye week.

Despite his being from Chapel Hill, Anoop doesn't really fall into the WASP category. I understand that there's a pretty considerable Indian voting bloc out there that probably saved his ass after that "Beat It" abortion a couple of weeks ago.

Rule of thumb around here. Don't make one of your first 20 posts or so a new thread unless you know it has legs. Also, before posting here, read some threads. This is not a place where nice kids play....most of us are assholes to people who make bold comments off of the bat that have no legs. One consequence of the scoring being automated at every bowling alley I've ever been to is that I have absolutely no idea how the game is scored if I get a strike or spare. I'm always surprised after the next frame.

To give you an idea of my struggles on the lanes, this afternoon I bowled a 98, a 79, and a 95. I would consider that 79 to be the low point of my life thus far.

I'm not particularly good at bowling, I must admit. As with sex, I basically have one technique: hard, fast, and down the middle. But like with sex, this technique tends to lead to wildly varying and wholly unpredictable results. Sometimes the whole thing veers off course for seemingly no reason whatsoever, sometimes it appears to be on course but just sort of peters out at the end, and once in a great while I hit the sweet spot and can walk away from the experience with my head held high. But it's the unpredictability that really bothers me. What am I doing wrong when it goes wrong and how can I fix it?
So let's talk bowling. Do you enjoy doing it? Are you any good? Any bowling league cocksuckers in our midst here? Do you think, like I do, that bowling alleys have gotten too clean these days? When I was growing up, every bowling alley I ever went to smelled like stale smoke and piss. Now they're clean as hospitals. Seems wrong somehow.

What would have stopped Eric Clapton's popular acoustic rearrangement of "Layla" from getting in?I consider that to be a different sort of beast, because it's an acoustic reworking of one of his old songs rather than a cover. I certainly would have considered Mariah Carey's covers of "I'll Be There" or "Without You" had they come up. Or any other cover, for that matter. That none made it in was pure coincidence.
