    '90s Song Tournament Nominations

I'm posting the brackets currently, so I guess the nomination period is over.

Heavy on the words, light on the humor. That's how I roll.

The Agent of Oblivion question of the day

You can still smoke in some restaurants in North Carolina. I find that to be a bit much, but being able to smoke in bars is a major plus. I couldn't do it in Georgia, and Washington's anti-smoking stance is such that you have to be 50 feet away from any entrance before you can light up. So smoking in a bar here is a non-starter, and in fact you can't even really be in the vicinity of the bar if you want to smoke.

I was under the impression that it was common knowledge. I'm pretty sure that I've taken responsibility for Wilford Brimley, Chris Simms, and Jung Billz. Anyone curious enough could check the member display name history and connect the dots from there.

I don't think so. I've never been stung by a bee, so I suppose that one is still possible.

It bothered me that none of the Chris Simms posts made sense anymore after I switched the account to Randy Butts, so I edited all of the posts to link to non-consensual erotic fiction. When it was subsequently changed again to Jung Billz, I edited them to that grill ad you mentioned there. I haven't bothered doing that sort of thing with any of the other threads that my revolving door gimmick account has started.

2009 Worst Poster Tournament: Round 1

    1. Goldengreek 8. Xavier Cromartie I've had limited interaction with Goldengreek, but everyone else seems to hate him. 4. KOAB 5. theone I don't know who theone is, so he must not be very good. 3. YKRG 6. Jerichoholic82 Again, I'm not all that familiar with either of these guys. Are we culling these mostly from the top of the board? 2. TaigaStar 7. NoCal Mike I don't think I dislike Taiga as much as everyone else, I guess because I'm not consumed by fear and hatred of women. She's just kind of dopey. NoCal Mike is kind of dopey, too. They'd make a cute couple. 1. Cabbageboy 8. JN News I guess. 4. pbone 5. EricMM pbone's a good guy. I wouldn't play him like that. 3. AmDragFan 6. Twisted Intestine If Twisted Intestine and Gary Floyd switched accounts, I guarantee you that not one person would be able to tell the difference. 2. bob_barron 7. Milky bob_barron's shit in the Site Feedback folder is one of the few things on this board that really genuinely annoys me. I wouldn't want to see him get banned or anything, but I wouldn't mind roughing him up a little. 1. RoHo 8. HarleyQuinn I don't really get the HarleyQuinn hate, although I will admit to feeling betrayed and more than a little confused when I found out that he was a dude. Roho's been on some sort of weird heel run since everybody yelled at him for posting power rankings in the NFL thread. 4. Chazz 5. Matt Young I don't know who Chazz is. 3. Jingus 6. Czech More a pro-Czech vote than anything. Jingus has been nice enough to me. 2. Marvin 7. DarKnight Who in the fuck? Marvin's gone, so whoever this is gets the vote by default. 1. EHME 8. Cartman Fan of Boston sports. 4. Gary Floyd 5. Porter Porter quit the board already. 3. Y2Jerk 6. Lord of the Curry Y2Jerk isn't the same as SuperJerk, right? I don't know how I manage to not notice all of these crappy posters, but I seriously don't know who the vast majority of these people are. 2. Enigma 7. CWM Frightening avatar wins out, although it is a little irksome that CWM continues to take credit for one of my ideas all these many years later.

But all things considered, it was alarmingly accurate.

    '90s Song Tournament Nominations

This is a nostalgia tournament in a lot of ways, which is why I chose the '90s over the '80s. But, as Kamala alluded to, there has to be a certain balance in your decision-making: You have to listen to things with your current critical ear while also bearing in mind whatever nostalgic value these songs might have. And because I'm weighing this thing heavily toward songs that are immediately recognizable radio hits, there's going to be a fair amount of not great songs in here, so nostalgic value may be the only value that they have. I want to see a lot of '90s anecdotes once the voting begins. I have a perfectly good "Don't Speak" anecdote, so you can rest assured it's making the cut. Posters who are too young to have any sort of affection for this stuff are just going to have to suck it up.

    '90s Song Tournament Nominations

"Bittersweet Symphony." There's a good one. Dinosaur Jr.'s "Feel the Pain." Bjork's "Army of Me." "Regulate," "Nuthin but a G Thang," and "Gin and Juice" as well. "O.P.P." "Jump."

    '90s Song Tournament Nominations

Maybe we can have like a play-in vote for a beloved indie tune. "King of Carrot Flowers" vs. "Tractor Rape Chain." Winner goes on to get trounced by TLC, 21-4.

    '90s Song Tournament Nominations

It occurs to me now that "Linger" is probably a better Cranberries song than "Zombie." I'll go ahead and nominate that one, as well as Elastica's Wire ripoff "Connection" and Belly's "Feed the Tree." Oh, and "Nothing Compares 2 U."
  14. No, '90s. I think it'll ultimately work out better, because that's the decade that the vast majority of TSM posters came of age in. There'll be more depth to the selections, posters will take their favorite songs getting slighted a little more personally, it'll lend itself to better comments + justifications, etc.
  15. I think I'll run the tournament. Could be fun, right? Lots of typing and counting and so on. So let's say '90s. Singles are preferred although I'll accept well-known album tracks. There's no gray area or "well, it was recorded in..." type of nonsense in my tournament, okay? Only songs released at some point between January 1, 1990 and December 31, 1999 are eligible. I want lists of at least 20 songs (but, really, it's a big tournament so list as many as you'd like). Comments and justifications are certainly welcome, but not mandatory. Once I have what I feel is a representative sample of songs and have them all bracketed and everything, I'll start a new thread for the first round of the tournament.
  16. He was so upset about the callousness shown in the Test-Kelly Kelly murder-suicide thread that he quit the board.

    Your 10 Favorite Albums

You'll never make it in this music folder, kid. You haven't got what it takes.
  18. But sort of fun, like harassing the elderly or kicking an injured dog. Test's career fell faster than Owen Hart. And then he died. Ahahahaha.

The Agent of Oblivion question of the day

Another one that's just as applicable to the original question as it is to the new one. To your point, though: I think we'd all do well to meet girls who pressure wash the sheets when they orgasm, as it's the only reliable way to know whether or not anything has genuinely taken place down there. The longtime girlfriend was a gusher, and I quite liked that. The girl I slept with most recently claimed to have never had an orgasm. That was a bit of a dealbreaker for me. I think I'm fairly good in bed, but I'll be the first to admit that I lack both the skill and the patience to help someone with weird sexual hangups. Unless the girl is really hot or funny, and this girl was neither.

Having to brush my teeth when I finish.
  22. So that match with Shane McMahon (along with the whole accompanying Stephanie McMahon angle) was pretty much the hightlight of Test's career, right? It's one of the only things I can remember the guy doing. He was in that horrible tag team with Albert for a while. And then... Um. Oh, wasn't he in the Alliance?
  23. Man, I haven't been this shaken up since Crash Holly died. Goodnight, sweet Test. Your immunity from getting fired couldn't save you from dying. Or from getting fired.
  24. I just did the leg adjustment thing a few minutes ago. Fortunately, I did it slowly enough that I was able to stop before doing too much damage. I zippered my dick one time (quite painful) and did the whole "piss after handling hot peppers and not washing your hands" thing, but I've never been kicked in the dick. I can't remember the last time I got hit full-on in the nuts.
