Office Space - alright, I'll be honest with you here. I think I'm gonna have to give this a 9/10, mmmmkay? -

The Boston Strangler - 8/10 A serial killer movie with Henry Fonda, George Kennedy and Tony Curtis? I'm there baby! Curtis gives the performance of a lifetime as the psychotic killer, and the split screen stuff is very cool. It dragged a bit during the interrogation scenes in the mental hospital, but the final sequence more than makes up for that. Great film. -

Dirty Harry - 7/10 Good, very slick police thriller. The 70's style and music makes it look almost like a Tarantino movie now. Eastwood is great. The Rundown - 6/10 It's a nice little action comedy. Nothing more, nothing less. The Rock has potential, but needs that one big hit to really get his career going. Sean William Scott should do more action movies instead of pure comedies, I really liked his work here. -

Zatoichi (2003) It's bloody. It's beautiful. It's funny. It's the new Kitano, and it's great. 9/10 -
Piss has Ong-Bak in his sig! *adds Piss to favourite posters list* ...wait, Piss was already on there. On Topic: ...i don't think I can even add anything of note to this monstrosity. This is the worst thread I've read this week.

Highlander - a classic with a great soundtrack, cool characters and an interesting concept. But the wooden acting and cheesiness of some scenes hurt it. 6/10 -
Get Azumi, it's great. Alive, not so much.

The Night Of The Hunter - 7/10 Mitchum's performance is, of course, amazing. It also includes some simply stunning scenes that are beautifully shot. But some of the characters and sequences have aged badly and it didn't shock me as much as when I last saw it about 10 years ago. Still a definite classic though. -
You shouldn't expect BRII to be any good though. Don't buy it if you haven't seen it yet. No creative deaths, no good characters, a stupid storyline that makes no sense, a terrible ending, and BORING AS FUCK. Battle Royale I on the other hand is one of my favourite movies.

Ugh, French dubbing.... I've seen the movie in Thai and have already shared my thoughts here: http://forums.thesmartmarks.com/index.php?...9818&hl=ong-bak In short: the movie is awesome and you have to see it. It's not Kung Fu, btw

Dark Horizons isn't exactly a well hidden secret, it's one of the most poular movie sites around also nice for upcoming flicks: http://www.comingsoon.net/ Mask 2 will suck, btw.

Love Actually - it has some very good scenes in it, and handling 8 different storylines at once is an interesting concept. But it's too bad that some of the more interesting characters barely get time to develop, and the closing half hour is just WAY too cheesy. I know that it's a christmas feel-good movie, but it's just too much in this case. It also had the task of living up to Richard Curtis' previous movies Bridget Jones and Four Weddings and a Funeral, and it failed. Looks like he's a better writer than director 6/10 -
I'll throw an odd choice out there... Scar, The Lion King favourite scene: his introduction sequence, where he first plays with a mouse ('Life's not fair, is it? You see, I shall never be king. And you... shall never see the light of another day. Adieu.') And then Simba comes along, bragging about being the future king: Simba: Hey, Uncle Scar. Guess what? Scar: I despise guessing games. Simba: I'm going to be King of Pride Rock. Scar: Oh Goodee. Simba: My dad just showed me the whole kingdom. And I'm gonna rule it all. Heheh. Scar: Yes, well forgive me for not leaping for joy. Bad back, you know. Simba: Hey Uncle Scar, when I'm King, what'll that make you? Scar: A monkey's uncle. Simba: You're so weird. Scar: You have no idea. Awesome stuff. Also notable are the scene where he tells Simba to run away ('Run away Simba... Yes, run away and never return.' *Simba leaves and Hyenas come out of the mist* 'Kill him.') and, obviously, when he kills Mufasa ('Long Live The King!' *throws his brother to his death*).

For reference and since I'm bored (winner in bold): 2003 - Chicago over Gangs of NY, The Hours, LOTR TTT, The Pianist (my pick: The Pianist) 2002 - A Beautiful Mind over Gosford Park, In the Bedroom, LOTR Fellowship, Moulin Rouge (my pick: LOTR) 2001 - Gladiator over Chocolat, Erin Brockovich, Traffic, Tiger & Dragon (pick: Gladiator) 2000 - American Beauty over Cider House Rules, Green Mile, Insider, Sixth Sense (pick: American Beauty) 1999 - Shakespeare in Love over Elizabeth, Private Ryan, Thin Red Line, Life Is Beautiful (pick: Life Is Beautiful, but it won Best Foreign so I'm OK with Shakespeare) 1998 - Titanic over As Good As It Gets, Full Monty, Good Will Hunting, LA Confidential (pick: LA Confidential, IMO the biggest screwjob in recent Oscar history) 1997 - English Patient over Fargo, Jerry Maguire, Secrets & Lies, Shine (pick: Jerry Maguire) 1996 - Braveheart over Apollo 13, Babe, Il Postino, Sense and Sensibility (no pick, since none of them deserved it) 1995 - Forrest Gump over Four Weddings and a Funeral, Pulp Fiction, Quiz Show, Shawshank Redemption (pick: Pulp Fiction, but damn what a great year for Hollywood. Forrest and Shawshank deserved it, too.) 1994 - Schindler's List over The Fugitive, In The Name Of The Father, The Piano, The Remains Of The Day (pick: Schindler's List) -

Some would probably argue for The Insider, but not me. I love American Beauty, and it was the first DVD I bought when I got my first player. Every scene in it is amazing. -

Ain't that the truth. Especially Two Towers was improved by leaps and bounds in the Extended Cut. Peter Jackson basically admits in the commentary that they should have left the Faramir scenes (esp. the flashback) in the theatrical version. I always wondered how people were supposed to feel sympathy for Faramir in ROTK. The scene where he is sent to certain death by his father while Pippin sings was my favourite scene in ROTK, but it loses much of its impact when you haven't seen TTT Extended. -

Hell no. The first half hour is good, but the rest is mediocre. Shakespeare in Love was a much better film and deserved to win. Ryan isn't even one of the best war movies ever. Films like Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, All Quiet On The Western Front or Paths of Glory are in a different league. -
