The OAO Raw THHHread for 07.04.05

Edge had some very good matches with Eddie Guerrero. The Street Fight they had on an edition of Smackdown was even great. Matt Hardy also had an awesome little match against Chris Benoit during the US title tournament.

Comments that don't warrant a thread

Get World Soccer Winning Eleven 8 International: http://ps2.ign.com/objects/682/682523.html Nothing else comes close to its greatness. It's available on XBOX and PS2. XBOX version has slightly better graphics and online play, but the game is meant to be played with a PS2 pad so if you don't care about online buy the PS2 version. Once you have the game you should USE the training options and read the guides at GameFAQs. That way you get over the steep learning curve. And once you know how to play it's the best sports game on the market IMO.

The "What Film(s) Did You Watch Today" Thread

For a long time I couldn't wait to finally see this film. It's Katsuhiro Otomo's dream project, how can it be any less than amazing, I thought. Then it finally came out (after 10 years, mind you) and the reviews were underwhelming. Due to that I didn't watch it til now. So, how good or bad is it? The best thing about this film by far is its technology. That includes the breathtaking animation, brilliant set designs, awesome special effects and first and foremost the earth-shattering sound! If any anime film needs to be watched in 5.1 sound it is this one. The film also has a strong message about the dangers of technology and science, which isn't that creative but I still liked it. The many imaginative and creative ways steam is used in this story were fun to watch. Now, to my problems with the film. It's very unconsistent in its pace. The first half moves along quickly and interesting, but the whole second hour is basically one gigantic action sequence. It looks and sounds great, but one whole hour of non-stop action is just overkill. The characters were mostly uninteresting, with the exception of Ray and Scarlet. You never really know what Ray's dad and grandfather are really up to and what their motivations are. The plot is very straight-forward. That's not necessarily a problem, but I expected a bit more from the creator of Akira. Overall a good film, worth watching for anime fanatics and casual movie-goers alike. Yes, the plot and characters leave a bit to be desired but the film is just marvellous to look at and sounds fantastic. But don't expect another Akira.

opening of Happiness of the Katakuris (download)

dead or alive 2 and 3 aren't gorefests though. Part Two is the best IMO, I loved the storyline and the eventual ending. The third one was the worst of the three, suffering from a far too low budget for that kind of Sci-Fi scenario. The story was nothing special as well.

    The Biggest Angle Ever

so basically the same thing that makes 24 one of the most successful dramas on TV. Good stuff, RRR. A bit complicated and far-fetched but that's now always a bad thing. Miles better than the usual predictable and boring storylines the WWE spews out.

In response to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata's recent comments on the company's upcoming networking plans (Wada's comments seem to have been made prior to Nintendo's official announcement regarding its DS WiFi service), Wada offers up praise for the ideas featured in the plan, and even suggests that Nintendo could bring new users to the Online gaming world. One area that Wada seems to be impressed with is a particularly controversial side of Nintendo's Online plan. In his comments posted at Impress Game Watch yesterday, Iwata states that Nintendo is going through with the idea of letting players connect only to players whom they've met in real life. While it's unclear how strict Nintendo plans to be with this idea (Animal Crossing DS is reported to allow for play amongst strangers), Wada applauds the move in his comments today, stating "It gives the image of taking the real world seamlessly into the virtual world." This new structure could lead to a number of changes in the current network gaming system, with Wada suggesting "the means of building a community will be completely different, and support and services will also change." The stance Square Enix takes on the new networking plan in relation to Revolution is the most intriguing. "What increased our interest further," states Wada regarding the networking plan, "is that the next step is already being prepared for Revolution." Nintendo's networking plan is, according to Wada, "not just a portable, not just a console -- it's exactly what we wanted in that it's the birth of a completely new platform." Wada finishes off on the note of support from Square Enix: "From here on, we'll have to challenge ourselves with content in response to what Nintendo offers. We would like to give strong support." With these comments, Wada seems to be committing Square Enix to support of Nintendo's new networking plan, and this will almost certainly take early form on the DS. The mention of Revolution's role in the company's decision process suggests that future support for the console is a possibility as well. Revolution at E3 2005 The rumor that Nintendo will not reveal the successor to the GameCube, codenamed Revolution, at E3 2005 has been circulating for some time now, putting the gaming public in a tizzy over the looming disappointment. Here's the real deal: Nintendo sources have confirmed Revolution's presence at the show. The company may decide to reveal the system's official name, technical specs and even the system itself. The controller, however, will probably not be shown. It may not be the system "launch pad" gamers hoped for, but to count the Revolution as a no-show is inaccurate. Taking into account Nintendo's E3 lineup and other information, the company will focus on the handheld market this year. Specifically, Nintendo will focus on its new online service for the Nintendo DS and perhaps deliver first details on the new Game Boy Advance. Not the genuine successor to the GBA, but an improved version of the current model boasting new features such as built-in wireless networking. It may also include the Play-Yan adapter, enabling gamers to download games, audio and videos. And of course, Nintendo will spill a ton of information on its new, free online service, since it's actually set to debut later this year. On the console front, Nintendo will provide a playable version of The Legend of Zelda for GameCube, along with playable versions of Fire Emblem, Advance Wars and Geist. Gamers can also expect to see the new Mario Baseball title. As for the Nintendo Revolution, expect certain details plus a video presentation showing a number of next-gen games. What makes the system unique may be revealed to some degree, but considering the supposed mid-2006 ship date, it plain doesn't make sense for Nintendo to reveal all, or even most, of its secrets. Of course, it just wouldn't be E3 without a few surprises.

The game I want so see most is Legend of Zelda, of course. Other than that I hope Konami shows PES5, but I don't think they will. The PS2 will dominate yet again, but I think that XBOX360 will make quite a splash. The big 'surprise' will probably be Diablo 3, which I don't care for AT ALL. I'd love it if a new Perfect Dark would be revealed now that RARE is done with Conker. Duke Nukem Forever will still be on some rlelease lists.

    Box Office Report

You don't have to worry about that. It was a big success way before it was released in the US. Its production budget was ~$20 million and it has already made ~$80 million worldwide, not counting US box office and the many countries it hasn't been released yet.
