Sean Connery Originally Asked To Star In

YOUR MOTHER, TREBEK! The reason Connery turned down LOTR and Matrix is because he didn't understand the roles. The reason he agreed to LXG is because he didn't understand the role. He figured that he passed up on two roles that would have made him a SHITLOAD of dough just because he didn't understand, so third time's a charm, right? Poor, poor Sean Connery... -
Top 500 Heavy Metal/Hard Rock Songs of All Time
Corey_Lazarus replied to AboveAverage484's topic in Music
Fuck, Motörhead don't get enough recognition for all they've done for MUSIC THAT'S EVEN REMOTELY HEAVY AT ALL. Without Motörhead, no Metallica. No Slayer. No Anthrax. No Megadeth. And half of the punk and metal bands in the world would not have formed. And most of the popular hard rock bands would not have formed. ALL MUST BOW DOWN TO LEMMY! Aside from "Paranoid" being #1 (I'd have had it trade places with "Hallowed Be Thy Name," personally), BEST TOP 10 EVER. I would have also switched "Back In Black" with "Peace Sells," but that's because Megadeth is amazing in nearly every aspect, while AC/DC gets boring after a while. Nice to see the Maiden love here, actually. I've been on a Bruce/Maiden kick lately (I only have 4 Maiden CDs, unfortunately, and 2 Bruce solo albums)*, so to see their classics get recognition is great. * = The Maiden/Bruce albums I have are: Iron Maiden - The Number Of The Beast Iron Maiden - Piece Of Mind Iron Maiden - Best Of The Beast Iron Maiden - Brave New World Bruce Dickinson - Accident Of Birth Bruce Dickinson - The Chemical Wedding -
Undertaker has had several matches in the ***1/2-****1/2 range. Northcutt's best match has been a ** brawl. Big Show, despite not having much wrestling ability at all, has a shitload of charisma (his comedic face run in 2000 proved this), and has stepped up as a worker since coming to SmackDown in late 2002. He has put on several solid, **1/2-*** bouts with Brock Lesnar. A-Train has a basic sense of timing that Northcutt does not have, but everything else Northcutt does is better than A-Train. Kane is perhaps one of the more agile big men in the business, and is pulling off the "mentally scarred psycopath" gimmick to near perfection. Losing the mask is, IMO, the best thing to happen to the Kane character, as Kane can now show his usually very good facial expressions instead of having to just grunt and whine. Northcutt has two facial expressions: hurt and constipated. Aside from the bump off the top of the cage, what did he do last night to make him stand out? I actually think he's a fairly good brawler, but he's been pretty shit in TNA. You realize that more than 100 people have the internet, and that not everybody that orders TNA comes to TSM, right? Fuck, nearly everybody at the TotalNonStop forum orders the shows weekly (all but maybe kikrusher99 and VoltageXX), and I think only one or two of them actually make it a habit to come to TSM. Just because somebody doesn't come to TSM, or isn't in the OAO TNA thread to comment on what happens, doesn't mean that they don't have the internet and aren't ordering. TNA's core fanbase has, and will be for a long time, the IWC. To deny this is ludicrous. Then you also have poor taste in wrestlers. Matt Hardy is a complete worker. While not the best wrestler, he is very good, and shows wisdom in the ring beyond his years (even though he has been working professionally for just under a decade). Jeff Jarrett could take lessons from Matt in how to work a crowd, a match, and the mic. Nope. TNA live attendance only increased during the SEX/TNA feud, which was a very well-booked angle that many of US liked while it was going (Sports Entertainment vs. Tradition, that is), and began to decrease during Jarrett's face World title run after the match with Raven and the SEX angle came to a close. PPV buyrates have remained steady since late 2002. Having a show with mostly jobber matches airing in only half of the nation on a channel few people have heard of in a timeslot where nobody will watch is NOT good exposure, and is NOT money well spent. I digged the Styles/Jarrett matches...well, wait, no I didn't. They were both Jarrett completely dominating Styles in elements where Styles should have either the advantage or an equal playing field in. One that insults us all, as the term is a Northern way of parodying the way Southerners speak. Using this term reinforces the stereotype of professional wrestling fans as "dumb hicks." ...is Raven. Raven has sold more merchandise, PPVs, and brought in higher ratings than Jarrett could ever hope for. Hell, TNA really didn't have anything going for it outside of the X-Division before Raven entered the company. Unfortunately, these "great stories" were held off for too long, and the delivery (if there has been any) was poor, and thus were not "great stories" after all. Picking two teams that resemble the worse side is fun, ain't it? So let's pick some bad TNA teams...oh wait, there's only three: AMW, Simon/Swinger, 3 Live Kru. I'd rather have multiple teams in a division with some of them being shit than having only three teams, with only one being more than "bland." Raven's chase has been the only consistent angle in TNA since Dutch took over. Daniels will probably not win the X-Division title, as it's PAINFULLY obvious that Sabin will get the belt. XXX will likely not reunite, at least not in full, and Elix seems as if he might have lost a step. Punk should have turned weeks ago, and Dinero turning makes very little sense. JJ the character is good, but as a wrestler he's on par with HHH, and has more backstage pull as he is the head booker. A "great, great match" is one that will almost unanimously be regarded as such, which has not happened since September (when the vast majority of the TNA fanbase creamed themselves for Sabin/Juvi). Gang feuds are only as good as the man booking the feuds, and Dutch has proven he has little sense when it comes to much else besides the main event. D'Lo just returned two shows ago after a nearly three month absence, and such cannot be considered a "solid push." Then explain why the crowd seems to be moving, but no noise can be heard. And you haven't proven anything besides that you refuse to listen to logic. Goldy sucked, but yes, Hudson is AMAZING as a backstage interviewer. The short promo with 3LK was humorous, and his natural delivery of every line (including the subtle shilling of the new calendar) made me smile. Doesn't make up for the fact that most of their backstage skits are rather crap. Every week is one decent match, one decent angle, and a load of crappy filler that makes me ashamed to be a TNA supporter. When the Nashville fans, for the most part, do not pay to see the product live, but the at-home fans do, who should you really be worried about pleasing? By large, the at-home fans (again, mostly the IWC) are not happy with the fact that AMW are booked as the center of the tag division when they're painful to listen to on the mic and have not mastered basic tag team wrestling. So, explain to me how Dutch is doing it "perfect" with AMW when most of the fanbase does not want AMW to have the belts? Ki has bouts of greatness, but usually resorts to the same spots. Fun worker, one of my favorites, but lacks a lot of substance. Daniels, yes, is one of the best wrestlers in the world. Styles has a long way to go to become one of the best in the world, and has "Kurt Angle Syndrome" (where the worker becomes limited due to their opponents' styles, and thus cannot advance their own abilities). Sabin is not even in the top 50% of the best wrestlers in the world.

Hmmm...I just might have to go to a Boston showing of "The Nutcracker" wearing my leather jacket, leather boots, and leather gloves. Oh, and carrying a bucket of KFC, too. One day, people will form an anti-PETA, and the world will be a warzone of hippies and rednecks. My, oh my, will that be fun to watch...

It doesn't work in most cases, but it's always good to use diplomacy first, because if you then have to go into a fight due to diplomacy not working, it's nice to point back and say "hey, I tried diplomacy, and it didn't work, so now I'll try fighting."

I'm officially taking Jeff Jarrett off of the FUCK list, as I felt he was SOLID tonight. His opening promo was his best promo in nearly a year, I feel, and the work I did see of Sting/Jarrett (I fell asleep about halfway through, and woke up halfway through the AJ/D'lo vs. Simon/Swinger match) wasn't too offensive. And I'm bolding/underlining/italicizing "Mantel's shitty booking."

...solid card...awful delivery... When do the replays usually run? I'm not ordering the next two weeks because they're "best of" shows (when anything really worth mentioning happened between April-May and July-September), and it isn't shaping up to be a purchase for the 1/7 show, either.

...all I know is that TNA better deliver this week...

Marney, I think we may have found a common ground on which to agree: Izzard fucking rules. -
I regret to announce that I won't be able to do PBP for tonight's show. I'm sure you're all crushed (just juvvy, probably). I'll make some comments here and there, but no straightforward PBP like last week's. Mother needs the computer to work on finishing her X-Mas shopping.

So I guess we should ban any sort of weapon, ever, from any museum, because it helped lead to the invention of the atomic bomb?

More reasons, 2GOLD, why Izzard fucking rules. ...cake or death? -
Another positive for TNA: they do attempt to get angles over, despite crowd apathy. The "intercepted e-mails" thing is GOLD, and amuses me very much.

Hogan refusing to do backstage segments
Corey_Lazarus replied to OldSchoolWrestling's topic in TNA Wrestling
It's a long "Fuck" list because I dislike the vast majority of those on it. I'm contemplating removing Jarrett and AMW, as Jarrett's been VERY good lately, and AMW are not the tag champs (thankfully), but something about them drives me to dislike them. I actually think the Security angle isn't too bad, because Legend is a very good brawler, and Northcutt has something about him I dig. He can sell decently enough, has a good look, and can do pretty good moves. Plus, he's being kept in short singles matches and tag brawls, which are apparently his strengths, so I don't hate him. Green, a rookie, and if given enough time to grow as a worker, I think he can be something to look at one day. Mike, surprisingly enough, I've liked Watts since he came to TNA. Sure, shitty wrestler, but he's charismatic in that "dude, he's such a nerd" way that I find oddly appealing. He also is rather good in his role (the face authority figure), and he keeps out of matches for the most part (and when he IS in matches, they're brawls, which he's decent enough at). Kinda odd that I dig the Red Shirts and Watts, yet hate almost every other booking decision, eh? A big issue that I will forever have with the Red Shirts, though, is the "Red vs. Black" angle, which sucked all kinds of ass, and was put to a silent death. Now, the Red Shirts are the muscle for Callis, which I think is good booking. EDIT: Oh, and Dynamite looks like Billy Kidman with a mustache in that pic. -
TNA's main reasons for losing money are (at least in my eyes): Not enough PPV buys. Only the Nashville fans and the IWC know of TNA, and they're pissing both fanbases off. AWFUL merchandising (both in quality of the merchandise, and amount of advertising for them; not to mention shitty shipping). Spending large amounts of money on bigger names (Sting, Luger, HOGAN) that have not been proven draws in quite some time. Lack of advertising outside of their own PPVs.

Should I do PBP for this or not? Since TC and somebody else doesn't like it, I'm asking you all. Looks like a solid card. Sabin/Daniels should be good, and I like the possibilities of the outcome for AJ/D'Lo vs. Simon/Swinger. Plus, Ki should stiff the fuck out of that useless 200 pounds of flesh named Michael Shane, so I don't have many complaints going into this one. Well, aside from the fact that many matches will probably be overbooked, but that's Dutch's "old-school, methodical" style...fuck Mantel.

...ummm...I like Shadows Fall...?

Another man that has not fared well with ice is GLACIER, whose awful gimmick didn't help his lack of wrestling ability at all.

Hogan refusing to do backstage segments
Corey_Lazarus replied to OldSchoolWrestling's topic in TNA Wrestling
I don't think people are really blaming Hogan for making a conscious decision to not be tied to a bush league promotion unless his demands, however ludicrous they may be, are met, but are rather saying "fuck Hogan" for MAKING such demands, and postponing a match that was agreed upon verbally. -

The one thing I had against the war, and the one thing most of my friends had (be they conservative or WAAAAAY liberal), was the announced reason of "Saddam had WMDs." To the best of my knowledge, we have not found any WMDs in our recent searches of Iraq (and, if we have, I retract this statement). Had the reason been "we're getting Saddam the fuck out of there," I doubt most people would really be so uptight about it. And even the people that DID bitch would deserve a kick in the head, because Saddam IS a fucktard that deserves to be tortured on Pay-Per-View where callers can tell the torturers what they want done to him. I think I read in here that the only reason the "WMD" excuse came up was because of UN backing. If this is true, then I commend the government for finding a solid bullshit reason to take Saddam out. -

Because Hogan, AKA the primary reason WCW went under (their biggest problems can be traced to Hogan and his backstage pull), is a "draw," apparently. -
The one post-WWF Bart Gunn/Mike Barton match I've seen was Barton/Saturn from an edition of TNA in April, and that match was VERY good. Stiff, methodical, and the psychology was solid.

He's not under contract. Say "fuck him," get rid of Jimmy Hart, and MAKE SOMEBODY ELSE LOOK LIKE A TRULY VIABLE THREAT TO JARRETT.
