    Shadows Fall-The Art Of Balance

I might not be the right man to ask, because I'm probably the biggest fanboy for SF you'll ever talk to, but I think every album is sheer genius. Somber Eyes To The Sky is one of the better death albums I've heard, and Of One Blood and The Art Of Balance really kinda prove that they'll be huge one day.

    Top 500 Heavy Metal Songs

The definitive book on metal, I believe, would be Heavy Metal: The Music And Its Culture by Deena Eisen (I forget the name, as the book is somewhere in my room, but the title is accurate). It goes into detail about why hard rock is falsely considered metal, and why rap/rock and nu-metal bands are NOT metal. It also explores what makes metal METAL, and why certain bands are not metal, whereas others are. Although the list of must-need metal albums is flawed (including AC/DC and Motley Crue and Kiss), the book itself explains that these are pivotal albums to metal in terms of INFLUENCE on its perception and evolution. The book, however, was released in the mid 90's, so I doubt great bands like Opeth and such are on the list.

If you dig Shadows Fall, check out Killswitch Engage. Both formed from the ashes of Overcast, I do believe.

I'm not sure if it will be the "so bad it's good" comedy style of JCW, or just try to make fun of the workers and wrestling in general. Either way, pretty good news.

"And yet more chaos occurred at the International Metal Summit, as debates between American thrash and death enthusiasts and European thrash and death enthusiasts turned ugly. The final body count is 72, with all but three of the dead being European. When interviewed, one American thrash and death enthusiast had this to say. 'HEAVY FUCKIN' METAL!!! KEEP IT BR00TUL!!!!!!!!' Our thoughts go out to the families of those European pussies that couldn't handle the Slayer pit."

Thus adding one more reason on everybody's "Why I should hate Hulk Hogan" list. And being able to wrestle (since this is professional wrestle, the ability to work is considered an aspect of wrestling), at least on some level, is a necessity to make it ANYWHERE in the business. Even if Nathan Jones had as much charisma as Hogan and as quality opposition as HHH in 2000, he still wouldn't be over because he sucks that bad in the ring.

The way I originally stated it was a summarized version of the way I stated it in the Family Tree-style. WASP has no link to metal bands, thus I do not consider them metal. I will say, however, that glam rock/nu-metal do a damn good job, sometimes, of blurring the lines between what IS and ISN'T metal. Motley Crue are VERY borderline, and I would consider a few of their tunes to be metal songs. The band, overall, was not a metal band, however. Much like, say, Black Sabbath can do a folk-ish song ("Planet Caravan"), a non-metal band can do a metal song.

The problem with the FUCK list is that it requires half of my allotted signature space as-is. Once AMW does something noteworthy (like, say, NOT dog it in the ring just because they're jobbing), I'll take 'em out and put in Hogan. Not Hart, though. I like Jimmy, for some reason...

Ki says everything monotone, and then will say what he needs to and leave. Shane will go on-and-on (well, SCREAM on-and-on) about nothing before finally getting to the point. Ki's mic skills fit his character (no-nonsense, to-the-point, gets work done in the ring), whereas Shane's do not (he's supposed to be cocky, and yet he sounds like he's trying to convince HIMSELF he's any good). And yes, I really DO hate Shane. Remember the amount of hatred Dames had for Ace Steel last year? Multiply by 10 and that is the amount of hatred I have for Michael Shane.

But every metal band sounds like another in an aspect. Each stage of the Metal Evolution has a direct link to the prior, which I will demonstrate. Heavy Metal Black Sabbath took blues licks and riffs, distorted them, and produced gloomy, heavy music. New Wave Of British Heavy Metal Bands like Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motörhead, and Venom took the basics that Black Sabbath laid out, and modified them slightly. The music was, on average, more melodic, but was also faster and heavier. Thrash/Speed Metal US bands took lesser-known European metal acts (Diamond Head, Angel Witch {I believe, although I could be confusing this band with another similar band}, etc.) and combined their style of metal with US punk bands (mostly the speed, aggression, and simplicity) to create a faster, dirtier, heavier form of music. Metallica, Exodus, Slayer, Anthrax, and Megadeth are considered "The Big 5" of US thrash. Black Metal European metal bands took the NWOBHM sound, took the gloss off of it, and sped it up to create a poorly produced, atmospheric assault on the sense. Lyrics range from ancient wars to mythology to Satanism. Death Metal US thrash bands began making the music more aggressive, writing more "brutal" lyrics, the drumming picked up in its intensity, the level of distortion was increased, and the vocals were growled and snarled more often than they were sang. Over a relatively small amount of time, death metal became the most widespread form of metal, and still remains the most popular for newer bands to play and experiment with. Heavy begat NWOBHM. NWOBHM begat Thrash/Speed and Black. Thrash/Speed begat Death. And today, there are many classifications and sub-genre's of metal that have direct links to previous styles. Glam rock has more to do with the New York Dolls and Led Zeppelin than it does Black Sabbath and Iron Maiden. Nu-metal has more to do with Nirvana and Korn than it does with Slayer and Death.

Yeah, great heat. So that means 10 people will be into it, while the others sit on their hands. A big problem with TNA is that they hotshot bookers. Originally, Jerry Jarrett had a good, solid idea: blend professional wrestling and sports entertainment. And you know what? They drew praise and acclaim from the IWC, the only fans that even knew about the product outside of Nashville, and were looking to be big. Then Russo and Jerry collaborated, and created some interesting angles while still keeping the basic Old-School/SE hybrid structure alive (with bouts of OS and SE taking over, depending on the week). Now? Dutch has reverted TNA from a promotion that booked what worked with what they had into a promotion with dated booking. Say what you will about Memphis booking, but in today's world, it's TOO SLOW. The feuds no longer have much interest, and conclusions are foregone (I believe most of us called about all of the results tonight ahead of time). At least with Russo, we had surprises. Even if they weren't always good, at least it wasn't incredibly predictable. Mantel is too predictable, and the fact that the workers are told to slow-down and "tell a story" in the ring (which many of them CANNOT DO) makes TNA a WWE Lite. The company is just WWE in a smaller venue, with lower-quality production, lower-quality workers, less money, and a smaller fanbase. WCW thrived in the mid 90's because they were offering a true alternative to the WWF. ECW was thriving underground because they offered a true alternative to the WWF and WCW. And the WWF thrived in the late 90's because they offered an alternative to past wrestling days and WCW. TNA is no longer innovating, but rather resorting to things that worked 10 years ago, and no longer work today. My predictions for next week: -Jarrett takes up too much airtime again. -More boring JARRETT PROMO TIME. -AJ is again pushed poorly, as he will rely on some sort of nefarious means to win whatever match he has. -Nothing will come of D'Lo's return, as he will be jobbed to Abyss and/or the Red Shirts for no reason, or at least made to look like shit against them. -Michael Shane will AGAIN retain his title against a superior (in EVERY which way - wrestling skills, mic skills, charisma, and psychology) worker, thus making the X-Division WORSE than the Cruiserweight division that extra mile.

So that's why Nathan Jones is such a hot star, right? Being able to wrestle is a NECESSITY to become big. Hogan could wrestle during the early stages of his career, and he could go when he needed to during the height of his popularity. Notice how he hasn't been a draw since he stopped being able to wrestle?

No, and no. The company's barely drawing paid attendance as-is, so why should a has-been and a never-were draw?
