Familiarize yourself with Dick Dale, the Ventures, the Tornadoes, and the Atlantics. Although I fully expect you to dismiss this post in your usual thick headed manner, the stylistics differences should be obvious even to someone as hell-bent on being right as you. It's been a pleasure, and I look forward to reading your next laughably hyperbolic and poorly written concert review of a mediocre band.

Billy Wilder licks the shit from the bottom of Robert Altman's boots. Sunset Boulevard is really good, though. Not Nashville, Short Cuts, or McCabe & Mrs. Miller good, mind you.

He said metal-ish. While certainly nobody educated on the subject would mistake Nirvana for a metal band, their sound owes a very clear debt to Black Sabbath.

I've attended exactly three shows this year. Exciting. In descending order of show quality: 1. Man Man 2. Del Tha Funkee Homosapien 3. Of Montreal I'm seeing Joanna Newsom and Smog tomorrow to make it an even four.

...are you retarded? Who the hell said anything about Pearl Jam?

Neither of the bands you mentioned as examples of surf rock are, in fact, surf rock. Songs about surfing =/= surf rock.

I want to punch James Blunt right in the fucking face

Not really. -
Trapped In The Closet is the pinacle of R. Kelly's career. He never has, nor ever will, top it.

I like U2 even less than when I last posted in this thread. -
Quoted in enthusiastic agreement. One of the top ten American directors to ever make a film. Even recently, he was going as strong as ever (Prarie Home Companion). The art culture's most significant loss yet this century.

The good songs on Yoshimi are really, really fucking good, and surpass the high points of The Soft Bulletin, but there just isn't enough of them.

Damien Rice is too boring for me to care enough about hating him.

Would anyone with a copy of the new Residents album and a dubious code of ethics be willing to hook me up? My usual sources are drawing a blank.

Good riddence.
-
That hardly qualifies as a joke, I think.

I don't think there's anything terribly samey about the songs on Blonde On Blonde. It's a stunningly diverse album, actually.

So?

vs. Verdict: Not the same face.

I read Corey's post, and I saw: So, what was it again that you didn't understand?
-
This question? It appears to me he gave a rather thorough answer to it, in no uncertain terms.

Have you ever heard a Springsteen song before?

$1.92 here. Cheapest I've seen it since I started driving.

I recently finished Civilwarland In Bad Decline by George Saunders, which was an amusing enough time waster, but really not good enough for me to recommend to anyone else. Now starting Beautiful Losers by Leonard Cohen. I've always been curious about his pre-songwriting literary career.
