Name the most average band you've ever heard

As far as the disco punk genre is concerned, The Rapture are stunningly average.

I think I'm a scenester. Or at least I've been called one. This is very distressing.

Banders is the greatest poster ever.

I would say Ben Folds Five are extremely average, but they have enough moments of pop brilliance to push them slightly above that.

I'm afraid I can't help much with Tiger Army or Rage Against The Machine, but as far as The Cure goes, you can't go wrong with anything on Staring At The Sea, their first singles collection. I never really feel like making it all the way through a Cure album, except Disintegration. But Staring At The Sea is packed with fantastic pop songs, and there's not a single dud.

What are you listening to right now?

This is true, but that's what I was listening to, and there's no real way to connect Will Oldham to Ashanti.

Slint's Spiderland and The Stooges' Fun House remind me of each other. Which is weird, because they don't sound alike at all. And I didn't buy them on the same day or anything like that. I just can't listen to one of them without the other coming to mind.

So I've been listening to The Arcade Fire album more, and I'm warming up to it. Still doesn't crack my top ten of the year. I would call it musically derivative but emotionally resonant.

"Lazy Line Painter Jane" is the best

I like "The Stars Of Track And Field". It was a long time before I even heard the rest of the album because I would listen to that on repeat. Yeah.

Ditto. You're playing NWA now. Yay NWA. EDIT: My mom walked into the room during this song and gave me a dirty look. Damn you.

I must have listened to In The Aeroplane Over The Sea by Neutral Milk Hotel a thousand times before, but this is the first time that I've comprehended just how heartbreaking this album is. Jeff Magnum sounds like he's tearing himself apart on every word. The line "I wish I could save her in some sort of time machine" just about made me cry. Music is weird.

I'm not sure how well Boards Of Canada would go over live.
