  1. Almost every song I was particularly fond of is gone.

    Round 4

    GROUP A

    "Respect" by Aretha Franklin

    vs

"Sunshine Of Your Love" by Cream (Poor Sam. I really though A Change Is Gonna Come had a chance of winning the whole thing. )

"The House Of The Rising Sun" by the Animals

    vs

"I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye

    GROUP B

    "Hey Jude" by The Beatles

    vs

"Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival (What eight Creedence songs do you like better than this one, Paul?)

"A Day in the Life" by The Beatles

    vs

"Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison

    GROUP C

  5. Nico

Man, I really love The Marble Index. It's very soothing.

I used to find her similarly tuneless and ponderous, but after many listens, I've developed an emotional connection with her voice like few other singers. It's hard to describe.

  6. I'm with the former Gary Floyd. PiL are one of my favorite bands, and how anyone can recommend their first two albums without also mentioning Flowers Of Romance is beyond me.

I also love Joy Division and New Order without hesitation, and would recommend everything by the former band and everything before 1991 or so by the later.

  7. Cave wrote it and co-scored it with Bad Seeds/Grinderman bandmate Warren Ellis, but he didn't direct it.

Besides favorites of mine that have already been mentioned (Once Upon A Time In The West, McCabe & Mrs. Miller), I'd like to once again advance Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man on the unsuspecting public. It's slow as molasses, but the steadily growing tension between unease and absurdist humor gets to me like few other movies.

  8. I've listened to the new Portishead album twice, and it's really clicking with me in a way none of their other albums do. Steve mentioned earlier that it doesn't quite "jell", and I agree, but I think that creates a really compelling kind of tension that's hard to describe.
