Comments which don't warrant a thread.

I bought a toothbrush at the Dollar Tree tonight. Actually 3...here's the story, I just wanted a travel case but they only came with these multiple packs of toothbrushes and I figured what the hell? I need a new toothbrush anyways. I'm starting to feel like this is a bad idea...the plastic smells funny. If I die tomorrow...well I'm an idiot.

    The Beach Boys thread

Figured it was worth bumping up this thread to post this unreleased track that features the lyrics "Alley oop, woo, fuck her, big tits!" Quite surreal to hear the Beach Boys say fuck.

    The Beach Boys thread

Alright I've been threatening to make this thread for some time but I figure we're overdue for a Beach Boys thread. I know they're not the most popular band on here (I know at least one of this board's stalwarts doesn't like them) but for my money, they had a decade-long streak ('65-'74) of good albums. I also have a lot of fondness for The Beach Boys Love You. I like to think they just stopped existing after that one. And I think listening to the local oldies station too much and my general disdain of Mike Love has ruined my enjoyment of their early cars and surfing oriented material. Weirdly enough, I think my favorite album of theirs is Wild Honey, their "return" to straight pop music after the aborted SMiLE sessions and the band's return to playing their own instruments. I don't think anybody shares my enthusiasm for this one except Robert Christgau. For some reason, I just really enjoy the charmingly disjointed combination of R&B flavored rockers and gentle psychadelic pop. The latter nicely foreshadows the next album, Friends, another one of my favorites and allegedly Brian Wilson's favorite. It's one of those records for me where even the misfires (Really- whose idea was it to cover Stevie Wonder?) are somewhat enjoyable. For the hell of it, here are some videos. Here they are on French television circa 1970 singing "Country Air" (from the aforementioned Wild Honey), "Wouldn't It Be Nice", and their cover of "Riot in Cell Block Nine" Part Two of the appearence on French television. They do their cover of "Their Hearts Were Full of Spring", "Cottonfields", "It's About Time" The Beach Boys first appearance on UK TV doing "I Get Around" and "When I Grow Up (To Be A Man)"

Yeah, The Egg Dome was definitely on my radar (as was Arena Mexico) but my knowledge of Japanese (and Mexican) wrestling isn't up to par well enough to put together a suitable roster.

Yeah I'll agree there- I had my card all set and everything and then the trade came along and fucked shit up. And damn, I'm happy with Brock and Andre as my first picks. Oh and the name of the supercard that I mentioned off hand...Trouble In Paradise!. I think it's safe to say now that our venues are all picked (and we're only doing one) that if Miami was picked, I would have gone with Aloha Stadium in Hawaii as my backup so as to keep the same name for my card. Now I can sit and relax for the next two or three days.

Steamboat and Angle were close to being my two picks. Very nice.

To fill an 80,000 seat venue- you're going to need two huge stars and both of these guys fit the bill in more ways than one. This first guy is one of the most beloved figures in professional wrestling. He was perhaps the biggest draw in pro wrestling in the '70s and first half of the '80s before shockingly turning heel and becoming one of the most hated men in the sport. He is one of the greatest big men to ever grace the ring and a name that virtually anyone with any knowledge of pro wrestling will identify with it. I'm sure you figured out long ago who I'm taking. With the last pick in the first round of the second all time wrestling roster draft, I'm proud to select... "The Eighth Wonder of The World" Andre The Giant! I plan on using him in his lovable, gentle giant incarnation. But he'll be provoked into action by his ruthless opponent, who'll be able to handle his own and then some against the giant... With the first pick of the second round, I'm picking a guy who made a huge impact in his short professional wrestling career. He is effective as a babyface but I'll be using him as a ruthless, psychotic heel. He is not only a giant killer but a legend killer and will stop at nothing to cut Andre down to size. He's a three time former WWE Champion, a former IWGP Champion, not to mention the current UFC Heavyweight Champion. With the first pick in the second round of the second all time wrestling roster draft, I'm proud to select... Brock Lesnar!

HOLY SHIT! The guy I thought might go Top 5 and certainly thought would go Top 10 has fallen to me! In fact, both of these guys could have gone in The Top 10 easy IMHO. Before we get to them, let's talk about where I'm going to base my promotion. This city was a hotbed for wrestling in the '60s, '70s, and early '80s. It also plays a part in my super card's name.... I'm going to go with Miami, Florida as my home base and the setting for my super show will be a recently closed stadium that held a few CWF super cards in its heyday as well as a few Super Bowls. The Miami Orange Bowl My television tapings will mostly take place at a legendary boxing and wrestling venue of the '60s and '70s... The Miami Beach Convention Center

Yeah but to be fair to the good citizens of those states, are there any other really great wrestling venues in them? Hope this doesn't count as a spoiler but is anybody else surprised to see no venues outside of North America get picked so far? I know that this board isn't really big on international wrestling but I thought for sure one or two would be off the board.

Terry Funk was one of my Top 5 remaining guys but wasn't the guy I was referring to earlier.

    The Old School questions thread

No, Andre wrestled semi-frequently in Japan and Mexico after WrestleMania VI. His last match was only a month or so before his untimely death. He wrestled mostly in tags and six man matches where he just kind of sat in the corner. And I'm assuming the guy that you're talking about is former WWF job guy and one half of the second team to hold the WWWF Tag Team titles, Rene Goulet.

There's one guy that I thought for sure would be a Top 10 if not Top 5 pick that I'm crossing my fingers and hoping he'll somehow fall down to me. Though I doubt that'll happen. Really, there are four or five obvious guys who'll obviously go near the very top (Hogan, Austin, Rock, and Flair) and then after that, it gets kind of confusing. There are maybe 20 guys that could go next and I wouldn't say the drafter was wasting a pick.

The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania Thread

There was also one in 2001 about a month before WCW went out of business. Interesting to note Kid Romeo's presence on the card as he would be WCW Cruiserweight Tag Team Champions like a month later. WWF @ Atlanta, GA - Georgia Dome - February 5, 2001 (24,639) Jakked: Billy Gunn defeated David Young K-Kwick defeated Rick Michaels Albert defeated Onyx Essa Rios defeated Kid Romeo Raw is War: WWF IC Champion Chris Jericho pinned Matt Hardy (w/ Lita) with the Lionsault after Dean Malenko came ringside, attacked the challenger, and threw him back inside the ring; after the contest, Malenko, Perry Saturn, and Eddie Guerrero attacked Hardy and Jericho - with Guerrero hitting a frog splash onto the IC title belt which was placed on Jericho's face Edge & Christian defeated Sho Funaki & Taka Michinoku WWF Tag Team Champions the Dudley Boyz defeated the Undertaker & Kane via disqualification when the referee wrongly accused the Undertaker of using a steel chair on Bubba Ray Dudley, after interference from Edge & Christian Rikishi & Haku defeated Too Cool when Rikishi pinned Grandmater Sexay with a belly to belly suplex and the Bonzai Drop Chris Benoit defeated Al Snow via submission to the Crippler Crossface The Rock & WWF World Champion Kurt Angle (w/ Trish Stratus) defeated Steve Austin & Triple H when Angle pinned Triple H with a low blow and chairshot; after the match, Austin hit the Stunner on Angle; late in the contest, the Big Show came ringside and attacked the Rock before leaving

Damn..."Rowdy" Roddy was my #1 pick at this stage. Good pickup.

    A challenge for BruiserBrody.

If Brody continues his filmed readings of classic TSM posts, I'd say he has an outside chance at capturing Best Poster in '10!

Damn, these last few venue picks have hurt me. My #1 is still on the board luckily but virtually all of my backups are gone. Guess its back to the drawing board.

Wrestling Roster Draft: Luxe & Reduxe

Damn- Detroit was my #1 choice for a city. Though I was going to use The Silverdome (technically outside of Detroit but really close enough to count as it) for my venue. Oh well eight of my top ten choices for venues are still on the board with ten guys ahead of me. I like my 80% chance of getting one of 'em. A lot of my top 20 guys are still on the board.

Hell, I'm willing to bet there will be picks in the second and third round that can have promotions built around them. Last year, I drafted Buddy Rogers in the tenth round and most would agree that you could build a promotion around him.

Hmm...wow, it's official...at least one of The Big 3 (welll IMHO) has fallen out of the Top 5. Very interesting draft already.

The first single from Tinted Windows (band featuring Taylor Hanson, Adam Schlesinger of Fountains of Wayne, James Iha formerly of Smashing Pumpkins, and Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick. I don't know. I love me some power pop and Fountains of Wayne but I'm not entirely sold on this.

    The French New Wave thread

So to expand the breadth of my film knowledge, I'm taking a class on French Film Directors once a week this semester. I know virtually nothing about French films. The course is mostly focused on the French New Wave, though there has been one exception so far and there'll probably be a couple more. I also plan on adding some essentials that aren't on the curriculum to my Netflix queue. Right now I've got Breathless and Shoot The Piano Player plus a couple more French movies that pre-date the era. So far we've watched; Cleo From 5 to 7, Vivre Sa Vie, Jules and Jim, and My Night At Maud's (plus Fat Girl) . I enjoyed all of these to some extent except Jules and Jim (had its moments but wasn't my cup of tea). So TSM, recommend me some French New Wave. Some other French movies would be neat to but I figured I'd narrow the scope.

I don't think I'd ever call Flair the top wrestler of all time but I would call him one of if not the best guy to build a promotion around. I know it doesn't make sense but I can't quite explain it without dropping names.

Eh, I figured I'd try to narrow the scope rather than just call it The French Film thread.

Yeah, when I asked him via PM, Mellow even said he'll allow somebody to pick Northern NJ if NYC is taken.
