I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the triple threat match between Nash, Goldberg and Scott Steiner at New Blood Rising when talking about crappy Russo booking. Let's get back to the topic at hand; Speaking of crappy later WCW, here's Jeff Jarrett Vs Sting from Halloween Havoc 2000. With the immortal team of Tony Schiavone, Mark Madden and Stevie Ray on commentary.

I think that's the video where Dave Mustaine showed up to the shoot really strung out on heroin. The director talked about it on Megadeth's Behind The Music.

Great moment, sure. There are dozens of moments in there though that were completely unmemorable because they were hotshot gimmicks designed to fool and shock the audience rather than make any sense. I've gone on record saying Wrestlemania XV was the worst of the bunch. The '99 Royal Rumble was the worst rumble match in company history. At some point he went to WCW and booked Mayhem, featuring the worst good match I have ever seen between Chris Benoit and Bret Hart. And that was the highlight. Don't forget Starrcade in 1999, with a slew of screwjob finishes such as a color commentator getting the winning pinfall, Kevin Nash winning the Powerbomb match against Sid by telling the referee he'd hit the powerbomb while the referee had been knocked out, and the perennial favorite, a rehash of Montreal. Or winning the WCW World Heavyweight title in a cage match against Booker T after IIRC, Booker T threw him through the cage thus making Russo the victor via escape

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v_OkU3_W_DE...029&index=1 A clash of the titans! Booger-Kamala! The commentary by J.R. and Gorilla Monsoon is pretty hillarious

It's all about Shaw's Supermarket baby!

Major restaurants and stores not in your area?

No Sonic's, Popeye's Chicken, Hardee's, Boston Market or Dave and Buster's. I would kill for a Popeye's Chicken. I love that stuff. I think all of the Red Lobsters in the area closed too. Which makes a lot of since we're in Maine and can get damn good local seafood at the same price. Wonder why they even bothered opening up here in the first place. -
Man, I've hated Portland, Oregon ever since the local Top 40 station had a promotion where they gave away a trip and tickets to a U2 show in Portland, Oregon where they advertised it by saying "U2 are coming to Portland.....OREGON!" And we just got voted Best Small City in the country by some travel magazine...so yeah! (Now back to the topic)

A local independent promotion is advertising an appearance by The Ultimate Warrior at an unspecified date. It's probably either A. Bullshit (This isn't exactly an established indy promotion- they've done two shows in the year and a half or so they've been around) or B. An autograph signing. Warrior's not crazy enough to have his comeback take place at a no name indy show in Westbrook friggin Maine. But they're advertising it as "The Return of a Wrestling Icon" which implies he's going to do something more than sign autographs. So yeah, it's probably bullshit.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y2T0QFbeIv8 Hogan's worst acting job this side of Mr. Nanny. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hKxqD_7ZXoM One of the few editions of Reo's Roundup with Shawn Michaels. Geez, could they make it more apparent that Reo Rogers was supposed to be spoofing Dusty Rhodes without out and out saying it.

I'm from Portland fucking Maine....the baddest hood in the Pine Tree State, yo. Actually, a guy did point what I believe was a gun at me (it was dark and he was a good 15 feet away from me). I was walking with my brother and a friend to the video store up the street and a car stopped and a guy jumped out, pointed what looked like some kind of gun at me and yelled "HEY!" and then he took a closer look at me, realized I was someone else and got back in the car and drove off. Yeah that's my somewhat lame story.

Brock Lesnar is one of the only (hell maybe the only) guy I've seen since I've started watching wrestling in late '93 that immedietely had "it". I saw him wrestle before his TV debut at a house show against Crash Holly and he easily got the biggest reaction I've ever seen for a guy who hadn't been on TV. Him coming back to to WWE (Or TNA if they had a snowball's chance in getting him which they don't) would be about one of the only things would get me to start watching regularly again

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MyRiNZDb5EY The Osmonds play their attempt of a hard rock song "Crazy Horses" A tad weird to say the least.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BM0xzdkP_cg...ted&search= The WWF Gong Show featuring Bobby Heenan, John Studd, Jesse Ventura and Johnny V The Ultimate Warrior interviewed at a parade circa 1990. Sounding surprisingly coherent

This has been a pretty weak summer for concerts for me. All I've got is Fountains of Wayne on August 9th and HippieFest (Giant oldies concert) on August 12th.

Son of a bitch! Come on Bill Russell! Brandon Davis! I need somebody to die!

Seconded. Ribs are perhaps the one stalwart in my list of Top 5 foods. And luckily for me, inexplicably about four new BBQ places have opened in town in the past two years. There's a new French-Canadian BBQ place I've been meaning to check out. Ribs plus poutine is a potentially amazing combinaton.

According to a recent article about Jericho I read a couple days ago, Jericho sent out an early copy to Mick Foley who told him it was one of the best wrestlers autobiographies he's read.

A rare interview with The Ultimate Warrior from Las Vegas based indy federation, NWC circa 1995 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SR6Beyla34...ted&search= I've got to say I've seen my fair share of nonsensical Warrior promos in my day but never one where he quoted Bryan Adams (80s rocker not the former Crush)

1989 would give it a strong challenge. Eh. Personally, I thought WWF kind of sucked that year outside of the beginning of the Megapowers EXPLODE! storyline. I may be the only guy who really thinks '96 was a great year.

Hate to respond to my own post but The 90s revival tours are actually starting. Later this summer, The Counting Crows are headlining a tour of minor league baseball tours and the opening acts are Live and Collective Soul. Now you can't get more 90s than that bill!

I actually haven't seen them (Boy I look like a jerk) but I was just saying that they were WrestleMania caliber cards on paper. But really, there isn't much different or bigger about WrestleMania I than the average MSG card at the time outside of Mr. T wrestling.
-
Was that the one where the kid from The Special Olympics sang it? Speaking of XI, I never got the hate for that one either. It's not bad, just really average (like a couple other WWF 95 pay per views). There's a couple matches in the **-*** range but nothing great.
-
There's a poster on another board, who's been going to MSG shows since the early 70s and he said that WrestleMania I was the worst show he saw there at that time. I mean there were a ton of great, big show pre WrestleMania but because history is written by victors we don't hear too much about them. Just offhand, there's The Mid South Wrestling Superdome Extravaganza from August 1980 Here's the card; Superdome Extravaganza 8/80 August 2, 1980 in New Orleans, LA The Superdome drawing 30,000 ($183,000) Terry Latham beat Tommy Wright (9:15). Terry Orndorff & Mike Miller beat Johnny Mantell & Ron Cheatham (12:00). King Cobra beat Frank Dusek (10:15). The Assassin beat Steven Little Bear (12:00). Ray Candy beat Killer Khan (9:47). The Grappler beat Wahoo McDaniel (11:00) via DQ. Paul Orndorff beat Ken Mantell (14:00). Andre the Giant DCO Hulk Hogan (13:00). Mid-South North American Champ Ted DiBiase beat Mr. Wrestling II (14:00). Dusty Rhodes & Buck Robley beat Buddy Roberts & Terry Gordy (5:00) in a "double bullrope" match. Junkyard Dog beat Michael Hayes (11:20) in a "steel cage dog collar" match. Also in terms of WWF, there was the Showdown at Shea, the same month as The Mid South Superdome show. It drew 35,000 plus and had Bruno Sammartino Vs Larry Zbysko in a cage match, Bob Backlund and Pedro Morales Vs The Wild Samoans, and Andre Vs Hogan Man, I hate to sound like an old anti WWF curmudgeon. So if I came off as one in this post, I apologize. WrestleMania I is actually a fun show for nostalgia but pretty crap wrestling wise

WWE General Discussion for July 2007
King Kamala replied to Hunter's Torn Quad's topic in The WWE Folder
Random old school guest appearence of the week; friggin Mike McGuirk guest ring announced at a RAW house show in Texas recently. How random is that?
