Verne Gagne suspected in death investigation
King Kamala replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
More detailed article Check out the name of the deceased's daughter. Huh, odd odd story. Can't imagine they'll press charges towards Verne though. -
I figured we should have a thread discussing gas stations. Share your favorite gas station related memories. Here in Maine, it seems like the shittier the city, the better the gas stations. Waterville had one of the best gas stations I've ever seen but it's also where most of Empire Falls was filmed.

Now that's a sequel I'm positive no one asked for. Between this and Verne Gagne killing his roommate at the nursing home, this is turning out to be a weird night for wrestling news.

Best Matches Not to Air on WWE DVDs
King Kamala replied to EVIL~! alkeiper's topic in General Wrestling
I'd like to see a Complete WarGames DVD...surely there's enough material there to fill up a two or three hour DVD. Yeah, when you think about it, there were just as many crappy ones as good ones but it'd be nice have all of 'em in one package. -
Rolling Stone is pretty much it for me, right now. And that's only because the 'rents got me an absurdly long subscription some years ago. I read it mostly out of habit these days but there's an occasional really good article in there like Cheech said. I loved Radar for the little while it was around. I started to subscribe like three issues before it went belly up. Shit sucked. Now I've got a subscription I don't want to Men's Health and Fitness!

I'm a fine of beef jerky in all of its forms. One time back in middle school, one of my buddies gave me a piece of salmon jerky. Boy, I love salmon and I love jerky but salmon jerky was rather unsettling.

Marlon Jackson wants to build a resort in Nigeria memorializing slavery and the life and times of The Jackson 5 Um...OK.

Eh, why the hell not? This is probably the first time I've posted in The Sports Folder twice in one day in ages. Last time, I remember posting in one of these threads, I remember Bob Barron scoffing at me for predicting that The Marlins would finish around .500 in '03. Yeah, I agree with you there, Czech RE: The Hornets. Being upset about The Saints is one thing but since when has New Orleans any sort of attachment to The Hornets? I'd be fine with them moving to Seattle.

Actually, it has. It premiered after Super Bowl XXXIII (Broncos-Falcons) which was the '99 edition.

OK---usually I'd be starting a TSM Profile around now and I may do that later this weekend but since this has been getting some discussion in the WWF/E tidbits thread, I figured it warranted its own "Let's Talk About..." thread. That and we haven't had one of these in a while. I have very mixed feelings about his run so let's bust out The Pros and Cons Pros At this stage in his career, this was probably the best position for Dusty to be in. He was long past his expiration date as a believable main eventer but I totally bought him as a fun-loving mid carder. Great opponents. I don't really get the knock that WWF buried Dusty. Yeah, sure, he wasn't main eventing but would the WWF fans have bought him as a force to be recokened with alongside Warrior and The Hulkster? Absolutely not. He wasn't the type of guy that main evented WWF shows in 1990. He did remarkably well on the national stage, given the circumstances (he was fat and extremely Southern...not to mention the lisp!). It seemed like all of the guys he feuded with in WWF (The Big Bossman, "Macho King" Randy Savage, Ted DiBiase) were guys that had just gotten done feuding with Hogan or had feuded with him at some point or another. Not a bad position to be in at all. While Dusty wasn't a very good worker at this stage, he was still a smart one and his opponents were perfect for his style at the time. While not workrate classics by any stretch of the imagination, I can't watch one of his matches with Savage or DiBiase and not be at least somewhat entertained. In fact, I'd take any of those matches with Savage over any of the matches in his far more famous series with Ric Flair. The unintentional comedy! Four words; Ultimate Wayuh Thuck Cup Cons The yellow polka dots! It's weird that something as simple as a ring outfit can be used as the most damning evidence for a company burying the company but I think that's the case here. If it weren't for the polka dots and Sapphire, I think Dusty's WWF run would be remembered as a decent but unspectacular coda to a career that was quite a few years past its prime. I mean, seriously, why polka dots? Sapphire. Really, what exactly did she bring to the table? She couldn't wrestle, she didn't have any discernible charisma, she certainly wasn't good looking. I guess it was supposed to help Dusty's reputation as a common man that his valet was a dumpy looking, middle aged black chick but really did he need any more help in being believable as any average joe? Too goofy---ties into the other ones. Even by '80s/early '90s WWF standards, The American Dream gimmick seemed a bit too goofy. He was far too fun loving and wacky for me to take seriously as a mark. Then again...maybe that was the intention. Anyways---share your thoughts on the final chapter in the American Dream's in-ring career.

The 25th Anniversary of WrestleMania Thread
King Kamala replied to DrVenkman PhD's topic in The WWE Folder
So Mickey Rourke is definitely not doing WrestleMania 25? I thought he wasn't but I keep seeing people refer to him fighting Jericho at WrestleMania 25? Who's misguided; me or them? -
Yeah---I've been on The Brody Backlash bandwagon since the beginning but really I don't see the outrage with this one. I mean- one of the purposes of this thread is to post unsettling shit. Fake edit: Well my self imposed exile from posting in NHB lasted a day---and I broke it to defend Brody. Yeesh!
-
I've realized that the thing to be afraid of RE: starting threads in this folder is the fact that they get no response, presumably because people are frightened of said elitists.

Saw this for a second time tonight. Interesting crowd reaction to the match with Necro. First time I saw it, the audience was sort of disgusted/shocked at it but this audience seemed mildly amused. Sick bastards! Also, I think the scenes with Evan Rachel Wood sort of drag the movie down. Still, think it should have gotten a Best Picture nomination and it was one of my favorites of '08.

1. He's got a remarkable tan. A bronze god, if you will. 2. His hair is stupendous. 3. He's banged way hotter broads than me. 4. He probably thinks that Leena bitch is fugly and would never even think of sucking up to her- even jokingly. Again---he's banged way hotter broads than me. 5. He isn't afraid to tell internet wrestling sensation CM Punk what's on his mind. 6. GFYM 7. He was briefly moderator of one of the wrestling folders. A position I strive for and have yet to be able to achieve. 8. He's banged way hotter broads than any of you! 9. As an employee of a pizza place, I'm sure he knows how to make at least a decent pizza. I once left the cardboard thingy on the bottom on a frozen pizza. 10. He is an arbiter of sexiness for WWE Divas. I have virtually no standards. There, now I'll see you guys in a little while.

Yeah, I'm going to try and take a short exile from No Holds Barred. I'll be here on the top half of the board though. I'd like to reiterate that what I said was tongue in cheek, I guess I just didn't play it well enough. Again, Cheech and I believe a few others (Dandy maybe?) can vouch for me. I apologize profusely and again I'll accept any punishment I receive from TSM High Courts.
-
I was faking it. Cheech Tremendous can vouch for me. At the beginning of this ordeal, I PMd him, thinking this was a joke by The DMC saying that I would jokingly suck up to Leena. I was also talking about it in the chat before you came in, CWM. I can't believe people didn't read my posts yesterday and didn't realize they were (poor) attempts at humor. If you want to punish me for it, that's fine. I probably should take a break from boarding.

Yeah, if we're going to just ban EHME from No Holds Barred then we should ban Marvin from Current Events.

Let's Talk About...Dusty Rhodes' WWF stint
King Kamala replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
I don't think they buried him either, personally. It was an odd way to end a career but in the long run, I don't think it hurt his legacy all that much. I think Dusty Rhodes's run was kind of like Rikishi in '00. He was an over, fun-loving upper mid-carder who won most of his feuds but didn't really seem to be headed towards the main event. -
Once Great Cable Channels That Have Gone Downhill
King Kamala replied to TMC1982's topic in Television & Film
I don't think it's strayed too far from its original vision but the E! Network has gotten a lot worse in the past half decade or so. As I said in CTDWAT, I blame two things, 1. E! True Hollywood Story now mostly covers actual celebrities. I miss when they did 'em on has beens and never weres. 2. The proliferation of countdown shows. And I like these stupid countdown shows but E!'s are just terrible. Oh and they completely misused the rights to air SNL reruns. You think if you had the right to show reruns of America's most celebrated and longest running sketch comedy show you'd show more than once a week and not rotate between the same ten or so episodes, no? -
I remember the Rockers vs Orient Express match fairly well. The Rockers lost when Shawn took a handful of salt to the eyes from Mr. Fuji. While I don't remember much about the Brutus Beefcake match, I have pictures of him making his entrance, and Genius reading a poem in the ring. The Ultimate Warrior vs Mr Perfect match was a lot of fun. Where did you find that listing? The History of WWE

Paul London blasts Hardy, HHH, McMahon, Bourne, Kidman and Brother Ray
King Kamala replied to Thanks for the Fish's topic in The WWE Folder
I'd fuck "Outlaw" Ron Bass before I fuck Nicole Bass. And yeah, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought London came off as bitter as hell but I guess he's just pandering to his fanbase. -
If there's a way we could ban him from No Holds Barred and let him post elsewhere, I'd be for that. But as a simple yes or no question...eh, I'll say let him back in. With EHME, I've always had kind of a damned if you do, damned if you don't approach. I don't think the board is any better or worse without him.

Whether you like Taker or not- you have to admit that was pretty awesome. I was going to indy shows a lot in that time period (late '01/early '02) and idiots were saying "WHAT?" during promos during those shows. Didn't get the phenomenon at all.
