The Worst Band On The Planet

Yeah I hate to make this topic of "what was your music taste like when you were younger?" but I had a better taste of music (not great but tolerable by today standards) when I was an elementary schooler than middle schooler and the first two years of high school or so. In elementary school, I loved Michael Jackson, The Beatles and oldies (Particularly 60s pop and R&B) with a smattering of Weird Al Yankovic and weirdly enough, Alice Cooper. But in middle school, it was a combination of classic hard rock (Van Halen, AC/DC, KISS, which wasn't too bad but I also liked hair metal stuff like Quiet Riot and Warrant *shudders*) and nu-metal with a little bit of awful rap (I remember being obsessed with that Ja Rule/Bobby Brown song in 9th grade for some reason).

Is Limp Bizkit still around? Last I heard (maybe 12-18 months ago), Fred Durst was talking about recording an experimental concept record that railed against The Bush Administration and The War. It might have already came out. If they're still together, I think they're a contender. And I used to be a fan of them. Ah to be a dumb middle schooler. Really though, did anybody have good music taste before the age of 16 ?

    The Old School questions thread

I seem to remember the commentators pretty much running down Hogan and burying him as he was stretchered away. . I saw the show about a year ago and I remember otherwise. I have the show on VHS, I might watch it again if I feel like it. But I'm 95% sure they put over Hogan after the match. And you also have to remember that Hogan didn't lose cleanly. Sure he was squashed for 90% for the match but he didn't job cleanly. I had this WWF Magazine from 94 though that has an article on Yokozuna and IIRC, who would be the guy to stand up and defeat him. And it completely buried Hogan, almost to a comical extent. It was something like "Yokozuna destroyed the four time WWF World time champion- Hogan was last seen wrestling in some old timers federation"

    The Old School questions thread

I'd still like to know if there were any plans for Hogan after King of The Ring '93. I mean it seems fairly obvious now that he was done after jobbing to Yoko but if you go back and watch King of The Ring, JR and Savage really put Hogan over after the loss and IIRC, at various points after the match mention that we haven't seen the last of Hogan. I think they wanted Hogan to stay but not as a full time main eventer and Hogan balked and did Thunder In Paradise (Classic) and then went to WCW. Anybody know more about whether or not KOTR 93 was supposed to be Hogan's last appearence in the WWF until '02? Second, I remember someone posted a link to a bunch old Herb Kunze's tidbits and I remember a lot of them from early 94 talked about Hogan forming his own league to be broadcast on HBO. Was this just typical Hogan BSing or was he actually considering starting up a new fed at the time?

Royal Rumble Anthology DVD Box Set

I haven't watched the last two matches yet (Rumble and Islanders-Young Stallions) but I don't really see what a lot of you guys are saying about Rumble '88. Am I the only one who kind of likes Royal Rumble '88? I mean sure the non-wrestling segments go on for way too long and it does feel like a bit of a hype job for the Main Event (Which really was it's purpose) but Steamboat-Rude is a solid match, maybe disapointing on Steamboat standards but on the whole a solid **1/2- *** match. The Women's Tag Team titles match was quite revolutionary for the time. Plus ya gotta love McMahon and Ventura on commentary.

    Opinions That Changed

Random pay per view I used to really like as a mark; WCW Slamboree '99 Now, I can't even explain why I liked that show. I mean the opener was really good but everything else pretty much sucked.

    The Old School questions thread

Yeah, Foley hated that idea and he also resented the fact that Mero made more money than him until IIRC like late '97 or something when it was clear that Foley was the better and more successful of the two signings. The angle leading up to the match was supposed to be some kind of "Beauty and The Beast" storyline sorta similar The Randy Savage-George Steele feud over Elizabeth.

    Opinions That Changed

I seriously used to think Sid was the best big man ever to grace a wrestling ring. While I certainly don't think he's as horrendous as some smarks think he is (He's at the very least capable of being carried to a good match which is more than you can say about a lot of big guys.) But I still hang my head in shame when I think about it.

    The Old School questions thread

I thought it was after The SummerSlam match with The Undertaker and then Whippleman berated Gonzalez who then decked him. Giant Gonzalez's last appearence IIRC was getting ganged up on and tossed out by everybody in The IC title battle royal on RAW in September/October of 93

    TSM Death Pool - 2007

If I'd have known that he was still alive at the end of 2006 I probably would have picked him. Darn!
  12. And I just found out they made a sequel to Encino Man; http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0116197/ I'm going to hit myself in the face with a brick.

    Vault Red Blitz.

Agreed I liked it a lot better than Code Red and with it being 99 cents for 16 ounces for the next six months at the local mom and pop store, I'll probably drinking it until I get sick of it.

    Going to Washington D.C

I haven't been in over two years- but yes. D.C. is cleaned up but there's a still plenty of bums. I don't think I've ever seen more bums than when I was in Baltimore in '05 but D.C. is a close 2nd.
  16. Didn't want to start another "Weird Dreams You Had" thread on the General Board and since my dream last night was mildly Movies/TV related, I thought I'd post it here Anyways in my dream last night, I was a reporter covering a celebrity basketball game and various second rate rappers and football players were there. And then I noticed the guy who played Stringer Bell on The Wire is in the front row (Idris Elba IIRC). And so I walk over to him and am like "Hey man- I loved you on The Wire" and he gave a confused face and was like "I didn't know any white people watched The Wire." And I was like "Oh really, I would think that a lot of white people watched it since black people can't afford HBO." Then he gives me this glare and I'm afraid Stringer Bell is going to kick my ass but then we both burst out laughing and the dream ends. Weird...man, I can't wait until 2008 for Season Five.

    Worst Wrestlemania Matches

Man, that was a long ass squash and Backlund got some offense. That's almost as bad as Roberts-Rude, it's like once those guys found out they were going to a draw, they decided to be lazy. For what it's worth, I haven't seen WrestleMania IX in years. And whoever said Andre Vs Hogan at WrestleMania IV I agree wholeheartedly. Good lord- actually any Andre/Hogan match from that era is bad but Andre/Hogan at WrestleMania III had the "the biggest matchup in WWF history" going for it and the Main Event had the "first one on one rematch of the biggest matchup in WWF history" angle going for it but all of this had was just Andre Vs Hogan in their crappy usual match.

    The Old School questions thread

The nWo was a case of right place, right time, right circumstances. Who knows if it would have worked in '93 WWF? And I hate that finish to WMIX- anyway you slice it- you're really making two of your potential new superstars look bad so a past his prime Hogan can look good.

    Worst Wrestlemania Matches

I think it's ridiculous to call squashes like Helmsley-Warrior and Backlund-Ramon the Worst WrestleMania matches. At least they were quick and served a purpose. Goldberg Vs Lesnar, considering it was their last match in the WWE, really didn't serve any purpose and is rightfully dumped on.

    The Old School questions thread

Haha! So I'm not going crazy. There it is Hogan and Gonzalez facing off (Off the set of Thunder in Paradise and in the ring). Here's what the guy from the wrestlecrap board posted; Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster, so I thought I'd throw something in. I was looking through my hundreds of pics from late 80s/ early 90s house shows and came across this gem. It was from one of those monstrous six-hour WWF Superstars and Collosseum Video tapings weeks before WM9. This was taken right after the main event of the Mega Maniacs with Crush vs. Money Inc. with Giant Gonzalez. All kinds of crazy crap happened at that show, like an experimental Duggan heel turn where he cracked his tag team partner Kamala over the head with the 2x4 after losing the match. I can't think of anyone on the roster at this time who wasn't at the show, so let me know if there's anything else you want to see. WWF @ Huntington, WV - Civic Center - June 15, 1993 (4,400) WWF Superstars taping: Rex King & Steve Doll defeated Tito Santana & Virgil Hulk Hogan & Brutus Beefcake defeated Ted Dibiase & IRS in a lumberjack match (Would explain the guys outside of the ring. Doink the Clown defeated Owen Hart via count-out WWF World Champion Yokozuna defeated Jim Duggan The Undertaker defeated Giant Gonzalez via disqualification The Headshrinkers defeated Jim Duggan & Kamala Lex Luger fought Randy Savage to a double disqualification 7/3/93 - featured a match between the 1-2-3 Kid and Reno Riggins which took place at a Raw taping, possibly 6/21/93 in Poughkeepsie; included Bonnie Blackstone conducting an interview with Bret Hart regarding Jerry Lawler and the upcoming Stars & Stripes Challenge to be held at the USS Intrepid; featured a Men on a Mission rap vignette promoting their debut the following week: Marty Jannetty pinned Tom Stone with the flying fistdrop Lex Luger pinned Rich Myers with the running forearm WWF Tag Team Champions Rick & Scott Steiner defeated Barry Horowitz & Brian Costello following the bulldog double team on Costello The 1-2-3 Kid pinned Reno Riggins Bam Bam Bigelow (w/ Luna Vachon) pinned Rudi Gonzalez with the diving headbutt Adam Bomb (w/ Johnny Polo) pinned Jay Sledge with the powerbomb 7/10/93 - included footage of the Stars & Stripes Challenge, held 7/4/93, with Lex Luger being successful in slamming WWF World Champion Yokozuna; included the announcement that Bret Hart would face Jerry Lawler at Summer Slam in the first match signed for the event: The Smoking Gunns defeated Jay Sledge & Buck Warner with the backdrop / piledriver combo Crush defeated Doink the Clown (Borne) via count-out when Doink sustained a backdrop on the floor, allowing Crush to slide back inside the ring before the 10-count; prior to the bout, Doink appeared on the big screen, with the screen splitting until 16 Doinks were shown; after the match, a second Doink (Keirn) attacked Crush from behind with wooden sticks WWF IC Champion Shawn Michaels (w/ Diesel) pinned Kevin Kruger with a superkick and piledriver Men on a Mission (w/ Oscar) defeated Mitch Bishop & Chad Miller following a front suplex / legdrop off the middle turnbuckle combo (MOM's debut on Superstars) 7/17/93: Tatanka defeated Brian Costello Adam Bomb defeated Rich Myers WWF Tag Team Champions Rick & Scott Steiner defeated Ted Dibiase & IRS via reverse decision after IRS' steel briefcase allowed the challengers to score the pin; the pinfall and title change was quickly overturned Mr. Hughes defeated Sonny Rogers I'm not entirely sold on this but the picture and results are sorta convincing.

    The Old School questions thread

Eh I didn't think Yokozuna's title run was that awful. Maybe it's cause that was when I first started watching. About potential post KOTR plans for Hogan- I remember seeing a picture taken from the crowd of Hogan and Giant Gonzalez squaring off face to face in the ring at a Superstars taping around the time of King of The Ring after a Hogan and Beefcake Vs Money Inc lumberjack. I'm pretty sure the picture was from the WrestleCrap message board (how fitting) I wonder if a Hogan-Giant Gonzalez feud was ever in the works? I shudder to think what the matches would be like.

    American Idol

I was joking about "The Living Daylights". Nobody even remembers that song...heck I barely remember it. Anyways back on topic, I think the VFTW crowd should be able to get Sanjaya through one more week (maybe even two) and that Gina is gone.

But who would Duran Duran's "A View To A Kill" justice? Or The Living Daylights theme by a-ha?

    Worst Wrestlemania Matches

Pretty much all of WrestleMania XIII outside of Hart/Austin (obviously) and the six man street fight (A fun brawl). I would make Owen and DBS Vs Mankind and Vader an exception as well but I don't remember a single thing about that match so it must have been a pretty big letdown.

Sort of. They filmed a segment where Jake gave Hogan a DDT and it got a big pop. The clip never aired and they decided it wasn't best for business to put them together. They also main evented a house show or two together.
