    Recommend Shows

Even though they've been off the air for about five years, I highly recommend Undeclared and Freaks and Geeks, especially if you enjoyed the 40 Year Old Virgin (They're both from the same creator and have the same basic type of humor, all though the shows are obviously a lot toned down)

TOAO The Wire Season 4 Thread

Definitely a neccessity for seasons 2 and 3, maybe not so much for Season 4. But you need to watch Season 2 and 3 to get Season 4. The Wire is definitely is one of those "You get or you don't" series, since it's fairly complex plot-wise. You can't turn off your brain while watching it or else it can be quite boring. I've found with some of the seasons (2 and 3 in particular), the show spent a few episodes setting up and weren't incredibly compelling (They were still good, just not great). But the season got progressively better as the season went on.

    TSM Death Pool - 2007

I'll putting down him as well as her fat, lesbian personal assistant and Bobby Trendy. It seems like everyone associated with her is keeling over these days. Yeesh.

    The Old School questions thread

I vaguely recollect an article in WWF Magazine (maybe it was PWI or something of that ilk) talking about how Captain Lou managed the Wild Samoans and that he saw The Headshrinkers as the Wild Samoans of the 90s. Man, this is bringing back a lot of memories. 1994 was the first year I started watching...

    The Old School questions thread

They really didn't turn babyface until the match with the Quebecars. The Quebecars were such strong heels, the Headshrinkers with Albano were the default babyfaces. Wasn't there an angle where Captain Lou was coming back and he was going to pick a tag team to manage to take out The Quebecers (the then tag team champs). I vaguely remember The Bushwhackers and The Smoking Gunns being involved in this storylines as teams that Captain Lou might pick. Then he ended picking The Headshrinkers for no reason and thus they became babyfaces. Am I crazy or did something like this actually happen?

    Knocked Up

Ah guess I didn't look closely enough. Either way- he was involved in Celtic Pride, which is the one undeniable turkey he's been involved. I could see someone building an argument for Heavyweights being a good guilty pleasure but Celtic Pride...ugh! I can't wait till Walk Hard, the next movie Apatow's writing. It's a spoof music biopics (Walk The Line, Ray) called Walk Hard starring John C. Reiley. I'm there when that opens.

    Knocked Up

I love love almost everything Judd Apatow's been involved with. The only exceptions are Heavyweights and Celtic Pride (he wrote and directed both), everything else from then on has been stellar. And this should be no exception. I'm glad to see Seth Rogan finally getting a lead role. Looking at Apatow's IMDB profile, I didn't realize he wrote for The Critic. He wrote one of my favorite episodes (Frankie and Ellie Get Lost). This is going to be one of the two or three movies a year I see on opening day.
  9. Clooney or Richard Dean Anderson as Hannibal Michael Clark Duncan or Ving Rimes as BA Brad Pitt or Leonardo Dicrapio as Faceman DJ Qualls or Edward Norton as Murdock And replace 'Nam with Iraq Yeah, I was gonna say have them be war criminals from The first Gulf War instead of 'Nam.

Comments which don't warrant a thread.

Man, The Clipse are coming to the local all ages club on March 31st. Tickets are $17 but I'm going to be flat broke due to me buying Guster and B. B. King tickets. Bah! And who knows when the next time a relatively well known rap act will be coming to Maine?

  12. OK, so if they HAD to make a movie version of The A-Team, here's who I'd cast; Gene Hackman as Hannibal (Might be a bit too old but I think he's in good enough shape to do a little bit of action) George Clooney as Faceman Terry Crews as B.A. Baracus Will Ferrell as Murdock

    This week in the NBA

What's the all time record for most losses in a row? I still say they break it on Wednesday against The Bucks at home. They've got to win eventually before the season ends. If I were a betting man, I'd put money on it.
  14. I was thinking about who would be good in a modern day blaxploitation movie and the first name I thought of was Kanye West. He's self absorbed enough and is probably just enough of a wooden actor to make it work. Kanye West is...... The Son of Superfly

    2007 Grammy show

I don't know but I have an unexplainable, pure hatred towards Joan Baez. Damn that woman! She damn near ruins Woodstock. And I don't even want to talk about her cover of "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down"

    Van Roth or Van Hagar?

Patty "The Warrior" Smyth (Not to be confused with Patti Smith) was the original choice for Roth's replacement. That would probably have been a lot worse than Van Hagar (if that is possible). Sammy Hagar was a good choice in theory, his solo stuff shows that he's not a half bad cock rock type singer but Van Hagar was so neutered by Sammy Hagar and Van Halen standards.
  17. In honor of Black History Month, I was reading up on Blaxploitation movies on Wikipedia and I found out about two more movies I want to see that aren't out on DVD. Apparently, there was a black Exorcist and that alone, warrants me wanting to see it. And then there's "Three The Hard Way" where IIRC; Jim Brown, Fred Williamson and Jim Kelly (Black martial artist not former Buffalo Bills QB) team up to stop white supremacists from adding an additive to the water supplies in Detroit, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles that's not harmful to whites but is lethal to black. Man that sounds like one heck of a movie! The Hammer, Black Belt Jones and Jim Brown all in the same movie fighting to save the black population of Detroit, D.C. and L.A.! Why isn't this on DVD?

    This week in the NBA

I'll make a bold prediction and say they win on Wednesday at home against The Bucks. It's got to happen sooner or later. Just a gut feeling. And I don't think they're purposely losing. Have you looked at their lineup without Pierce? Is there any possible way they could win?

Movies you own but haven't seen

I haven't finished The Bret Hart DVD set yet (Yeah, I know) and I haven't finished Joe Schmoe:The Complete Season One (I saw it when it originally aired so I probably never will). I also have Hell Comes To Frogtown (Bought it at a Dollar Store) and a Muhammad Ali documentary that I've never watched around somewhere in my house.

Best Ben Folds/Ben Folds Five songs....

I hate to bump an old thread. But rumor has it that Ben Folds will release an experimental (Fear of Pop Vol.2?), synth heavy record by the end of the year. I haven't heard much of Fear of Pop (Though I do have it on ITunes) but the two or three songs I've heard are....interesting to say the least. It's almost like Beck-lite.

    SNL Review

I didn't think this show was much better than The January shows. Then again, I didn't think The January shows were all too bad. I think SNL has fallen into a slump of shows that are decent enough but on the whole front, forgettable. In fact if you take away the Baldwin and Timberlake episodes, you could pretty much use that as a summary of the entire season thus far.

    Box Office Report 2/02-2/04

I might have to try and catch some of it on HBO, solely for the fact that apparently Mandy Moore prances around in a thong in it.

    Jake Roberts being Jake Roberts

I'd love to hear his induction speech.
  25. So I watched the first episode of The Corner and eh...it's got a few fairly compelling characters and the writing is good as always but it's a tad underwhelming thus far (Maybe they're just trying to set everything up, The Wire does this too sometimes). I'd definitely pick this up as a rental if you're a fan of The Wire if only to see characters from The Wire appear as completely different characters. Lester Freamon and Norman Wilson (Carcetti''s right hand man) both play junkies. Landsman has a small part as a construction worker and Sydnor is the teenage son's best friend. Plus it's directed by Charles S. Dutton, who introduces every show. And how can you not like something with Roc involved?
