Oddly enough, they were both mentioned in the latest issue of Rolling Stone as having really lame tracks on the new The Band tribute album *shrugs* The tickets for the show had the highest convenience charges I've ever seen! Damn TicketBastard! $14 worth of charges per ticket! I paid less convenience charges when I bought U2 tickets in '05! The setlists for this show better be unique and the special guests better be special. Speaking of Ben Folds, he's one of the rumored special guests. I might be seeing him in March in Worcester or in May in Boston with The Boston Pops.

The OAO Best of Friar's Club/Roast Thread
King Kamala replied to Man Who Sold The World's topic in Television & Film
I haven't seen the whole roast (and I've heard it wasn't very good) but I was looking up old SNL clips on YouTube a week or two back and saw clips of Stephen Colbert and Todd Barry roasting Chevy Chase from like 01/02. Here's The Colbert clip. It's really odd that it's a clean roast, it doesn't even get bleeped. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73KxMBOQmrI -

LOLZ. Yeah I read the thread right after and immedietely slapped my forehead. This is what I get for not checking the wrestling boards for two days.

Exactly, it's such an amazing show. You could build a case for any of the seasons being the best one. Back to the thread topic; I was dragged to Final Fantasy and my God- what a forgettable movie. The only thing I remember was contemplating whether I should sneak into Scary Movie 2 (Which was just as bad) and being overjoyed that practically everyone in the movie died.

Supposidely, it's going to be HBK and Cena Vs Batista and The Undertaker. But that's just a rumor.

Yes. You can also watch Baadasssss!, a movie by Mario Van Peebles about that movie being made, also featuring The Office's Rainn Wilson as a crazy hippie. I thought Badassssss! would have been a lot better with someone other than Mario Van Peebles as the lead. I don't know, he didn't do a terrible job (Which is excellent by his normal standards) but I don't know something about it bothered me. Speaking of black movies (Well this is somewhat similar), I got the HBO mini series, The Corner from NetFlix. It's from the same guys who did The Wire, and it aired in 2000. It's about a year in the life of a family where the parents are junkies and the son is a drug dealer. Even though I've read incredibly mixed reviews online, I'm really excited and intrigued to see this. The fact that The last season of The Wire won't be airing till '08 is killing me.,

He was cool for a little while. But season 2 was the weakest season, I didn't love the dock storyline Am I the only one who really enjoyed Season 2( Then again I really enjoyed all four seasons)? I mean it's behind only the first in terms of my favorite. I thought the dock storyline brought a fresh perspective on urban strife. If any season was slightly weak, I thought it was Season 3, the season just took too long to set up the main plot IMO.

I doubt anyone here cares but I'm probably seeing Guster on April 21st at The Boston Opera House. Their website said to expect unique setlists and special guests. Seeing how Boston is Guster's hometown, this should be a really special show. The Format is the opening act, anybody ever heard of 'em?

No, that was Friends With God which premiered on HBO on Thursday. And I believe it's about Evangelicals influence on politics. Deliver Us From Evil is about a Catholic priest who molested a lot of kids in the late 70s and the Catholic Church's coverup.

WON News + Notes, January 29th Issue
King Kamala replied to The Decemberists's topic in TNA Wrestling
I bet it's one of Angle's first tag team partners in the WWF. You could call him a "Lethal Weapon" Steve Blackman=buyrates -
I forgot about something. Would you guys laugh at me if I told you there was a point where I was afraid of Giant Gonzalez? I don't know why but when I first started watching wrestling he scared the hell out of me.

I hate it when I read about an interesting movie somewhere online and go to add it on NetFlix only to find out it's not been released on DVD yet. Example: Listzomania (Ken Russell's followup to Tommy). It's a biopic about 19th century composer, Franz Liszt (played by Roger Daltrey!). Here's amazon.com's summary (Since I can't describe it myself); Roger Daltrey, the Who vocalist and star of Tommy, returns to Russell's circus as Liszt, a great pianist nevertheless seduced by the ease with which he can make women squeal by playing flamboyant renditions of "Chopsticks." Floating on a sea of groupies, Liszt struggles with the possibilities of real love while also encountering the vampiric Wagner's exotic plans for world domination. Intuitive impressions, not history, are what this film experience is for, and toward that end Russell pulls out all the stops, planting Liszt into a heartbreakingly Chaplinesque short film, casting Yes keyboardist Rick Wakeman as a cryogenic viking, and placing the hero in phallic jeopardy when his genitals are subjected to a guillotine. Some of this striking stuff works, some of it doesn't, but all of it is determinedly undisciplined. With Paul Nicholas as Wagner, and Ringo Starr as the Pope (!). Man, they have to release this on DVD. Rick Wakeman as a viking, Ringo as the Pope! Why isn't this on DVD?

It's definitely worth a rental. I'm not too much of a fan of thrillers or romance movies but iit was a pretty great movie. Norton delivers a great, subtle performance and it's interesting to see Giamatti cast so out of type. I'm going to see The Queen either tomorrow or on Tuesday ($5 night at the local cinema baby) and I'm getting The Devil and Daniel Johnson fairly soon on NetFlix fairly soon. So those may end up being on the list of the top 10 movies I saw last year. But I'm not going to make another damn list. The only truly bad movie I saw last year was Click. It had an interesting premise and a solid enough cast but Adam Sandler relied on too many old gags during the comedy parts and it was way too schmaltzy during the dramatic parts. I couldn't believe quite a few people liked the movie when I read the thread about it here after it came out.

HINT: Mentioning that John Lennon actually had more top 10 hits would be a good place to start. Yes, I know Ringo wasn't the most successful ex-Beatle. AND I NEVER SAID HE WAS. I just got annoyed at how everyone kept insisting something wasn't true without lifting a fucking finger to prove it. OK, looking back at your original post you said something along the lines about how you heard Ringo was the most successful. Sorry about that then. Like I said, there's no way you can consider Ringo the most successful Beatle (outside of having the biggest acting career). Paul McCartney has had 2x more top ten hits than Ringo if you count Wings (Which I do since it was essentially The Paul McCartney band). But if you don't count Wings, Ringo did have more top ten hits than McCartney. And Ringo did have more top 10 hits than George. Paul McCartney has also considerably outdrawn Ringo in terms of live concert attendance, I'd imagine. And in terms of influence, I don't think I've ever saw an interview with a musician where they said "Yeah man, I was totally influenced by solo Ringo Starr. I don't think I'd ever recorded music if it hadn't have been for 'Back Off Boogaloo'." I'm going to stop arguing. Because Ringo was my favorite Beatle as a kid and I have a soft spot for the guy. I can't slam the guy too much. He starred in Caveman and has played The Pope. Paul McCartney's never played the Pope.
-
Seriously man, the only aspect Ringo could be considered the most successful Beatle in, is he's had the most succesful acting career of any of The Beatles. And even that's a bit debatable. Sort of off topic RE: Back Off Boogaloo. I heard the song is slamming Paul McCartney. If it's true, what prompted Ringo to write it?

There's only been one; Andre The Giant. Jesus, I had nightmares until the time I was 12/13 about waking up in the middle of the ring and having Andre lumber after me trying to grab my neck and headbutt me to death. I was a bit frightened when Jake Roberts sicked Damien on Randy Savage but I wasn't particularly afraid of Jake Roberts.

Ugh...worst Celtics season ever! (Though the 96-97 season is close). It's astonishing to see the varied different ways they can blow games. When Pierce comes back in early February, they might win a few of these close games but it's really starting to look like we're going to get Durant or Oden. I got tickets to see The Celtics-Lakers game on January 31st, is there any rivalry that has fallen more than this one? Not just in sports but in almost anything.
-
The least successful solo Beatle if he even counts (Which he doesn't IMO) would easily be Pete Best. Poor guy did a show here with his band that according to the local paper's review of the show, drew 40 people, most of whom got comp tickets. But the article (which was a concert review/ interview with Pete Best) kept making the point that Pete "wasn't bitter anymore about getting kicked out". I guess nobody wants to here early Beatles stuff played by Pete Best and a cover band/

But where does that leave Audioslave!? We need to know the fate of the greatest rock supergroup of our times!

Man oh man. I was just flipping through the 12 HBOs (14 if you count the ones en Espanol) and on the West Coast feed of HBO Comedy, I happened to catch this Billy Crystal comedy special from 1986. The second half of the special where Crystal did standup was OK ( I could really go either way with his standup), but the first half of the special was comic gold. It had Eugene Levy, Christopher Guest (playing a character remarkably similar to Corky St. Clair from Waiting For Guffman) and Rob Reiner (Playing Marty DiBergi) and Crystal playing Sammy Davis Jr, Buddy Young Jr, Fernando Lamas. They're all in Crystal's mansion trying to come up with material for the special. If you're a fan of Christopher Guest movies or Billy Crystal, you owe it to yourself to see this if you haven't already. It's replaying on HBO Comedy on Tuesday at 10:55 A.M. And if you want to see this, tape it because it's not on DVD and it's OOP on VHS.
