If it makes you feel better, I recently bought "Texas Chainsaw Massacre: the Beginning" Not music related, but still... I bought WrestleMania:The Album for $4 from Best Buy last year after Christmas. It's worth it to hear Bret Hart croke out a heartfelt ballad and Macho Man's rant on "Speaking From The Heart"

I saw Don Pardo on Friday, I think he might already be dead Off topic question to Bob but do you have any idea of who will replace Pardo as The SNL announcer? I heard Darrell Hammond does a good impression of him. Maybe he should do it, that way Darrell could stay on the show for the rest of his career (Not that he's not already planning on doing that) I have to assume nobody had Denny Dohrety on their list. Now almost all of the Mamas and The Papas are gone. I'm already considering making Michelle Phillips a pick in my 2008 Death Pool.

Alright, I may get tarred and feathered for this but I think Joe Piscopo has to be one of the most underrated castmembers in SNL history. They played quite a few Murphy/Piscopo era episodes on Classic SNL cand I was pleasently surpised at how talented he was. He had a fairly wide range of impressions, he could play a good straight man, etc. IMO, he was basically the glue of that era like Dan Akroyd in the original cast and Phil Hartman in the late 80s/early 90s, you could stick him almost in any role and it'd stick. Now I'm not saying he's as good as Akroyd or Hartman, but considering my only previous impression of him was pretty much the mildly annoying Paule Hermann "I'm From Jersey" schtick, I was mighty impressed. I think the biggest problems with his post SNL career is 1. He seems to be legit batshit insane. 2. He beat the "I'm From Jersey" and Sinatra schtick into the ground (And in the rare moments I see him make an appearence, seems to still be doing so). and most important, 3. He didn't really make any good movies post-SNL (With the exception of the underrated, Johnny Dangerously)

Classic WCW Nitro, Thunder, & Saturday Night...
King Kamala replied to UseTheSledgehammerUh's topic in General Wrestling
I have a "Best of WCW TV October 2000" compilation. I might review it again (I did a review of it during my brief writing stint at 411 back in '02/'03) but I don't know if I'd call it classic or want to watch it again. It does have a few decent Booker T matches but aside from that it's pretty brutal. -
YES! I had Bam Bam! RIP Bam Bam since I was a fan. But YES YES!

Agreed. Sadly, this isn't too surprising. Someone on this board or the Wrestling Classics board posted a link to an article about how Bam Bam was having a hard time adjusting to life after wrestling and how he'd saved kids from a forest fire (This was during his WCW stint in 99/00 IIRC) and how he'd gotten into a motorcycle accident and how he was addicted to Oxycontin. He had a pretty rough life. It seemed every time he was on the cusp of being in the main event, his career stalled (Due to injuries, bad booking, whatever) but I always thought he deserved a full time stint at the top of the card. He had a hell of a look, could move remarkably well in the ring for a big man. RIP Bam Bam. Now every big man from the WWF circa 94-95 is dead except for Mabel and The Headshrinkers (I'm pretty sure Samu is still kickin').

Tim Meadows I've rarely ever found him unfunny. I even liked him when I stumbled while flipping through the TV channels when he appeared as a judge on some crappy TV Land reality show called "America's Funniest Mom" The skit he did with Will Ferrell and one of the females in the cast at the time (Ana Gasteyer? Molly Shannon) where he played Dr. Poop was one of my favorite SNL skits of all time.

I'm seeing Letters from Iwo Jima and possibly The Last King of Scotland this weekend. So I might have to edit my list.

Crosby&Nash are going to be doing a show at City Hall in April. Even though they're probably my two least favorite members of CSNY, I'm still considering shelling out $60 to see them. Their voices have seemed to held up better than Stills from the recent live stuff I've heard. It's billed as "An Intimate Evening with Crosby and Nash" so I assume it'll be acoustic with just those two. If B.B. King cancels his show here in May and/or dies. I'll probably buy tickets.

He also starred in Caveman which was HI-larious. A lot of people sort of bust on Ringo's All Starr Band but the first one, IMO, was pretty excellent. Ringo Starr on vocals, Joe Walsh and Nils Lofgren on guitar, Rick Danko on bass, Levon Helms and Jim Keltner on drums, Billy Preston and Dr. John on the keys. WIth my main man, Clarence Clemons on the sax. Everyone after that has gone significantly downhill to the point where the one last year had Richard Marx, Sheila E and Billy Squier in it. Yech!

Best Ben Folds/Ben Folds Five songs....
King Kamala replied to SpikeFayeJettEdBebop's topic in Music
I don't think Songs for Silverman is as terrible as Czech does but it's certainly a pile of mediocrity. The best tracks on there (Bastard, Landed, Time) would be decent filler on Rockin' The Suburbs. It has its moments but I'd say it's a **1/2 album and that's being charitable. Honestly, I like his EPs over Songs for Silverman. I always really like at least one song on the EPs, there wasn't a song I can say I really liked on Silverman. -
Whoops double post. Sorry 'bout that
-
I liked every one of the first three. So sue me. I guess I'm just a sucker for sophmoric teen comedy. On behalf of all white people, I'd like to apologize for every Chevy Chase movie after Christmas Vacation.
-
Last night was a really really average show. A night of **1/2 and *** skits. Except for Deep House Dish, that sucked hard as always. The Cool Food and Laser Cats 2 skits were cute.

I saw This Film Is Not Yet Rated yesterday at the friendly, neighborhood art cinema. It was one of those rare documentaries that entertains and educates. The third act was a bit weak and would prevent me from giving it **** but overall it's a great movie. Besides how can you not love a movie that features interviews with Kevin Smith and John Waters? Has anybody else on this board seen and if so, what are your thoughts?
-
I dunno. I like it, it's hard to explain. It's one of those polarizing movies. You're either with it or against it. I'll use an old Roger Ebert quote about comedy in lieu of having anything interesting to say I cannot explain it. I can only laugh at it, and quote Gene Siskel, who liked to say, ''Two things are not debatable: eroticism, and comedy. If you don't think it's sexy, or funny, there's no way I can change your mind.''

Best Ben Folds/Ben Folds Five songs....
King Kamala replied to SpikeFayeJettEdBebop's topic in Music
Don't know if I would call it one of my favorites but I really enjoy his cover of The Clash's "Lost In The Supermarket" from The Over The Hedge soundtrack. It's easily more fun than most everything off of Songs For Silverman (Which was a pretty big letdown IMO). -
I saw it three weeks ago or so at the local arthouse theater and I started a thread about it here that got little response. It's in my 2006 Top 10. Anybody interested in film or first amendment issues, should definitely check it out.

Not really that effective, about as effective as Mountain Dew is or any high caffiene soda is. I usually get hyped up for about an hour or two than I crash after I drink one. But it is half the price of an energy drink and you get more. (I can get a 20 oz bottle for a buck and I can get a 1 liter for $1.25. I don't even know if they make two liters yet)

Hulk Hogan leaks list of 2007 WWE Hall of Fame candidates
King Kamala replied to GreatWhiteNope's topic in The WWE Folder
If Bossman does get inducted, I say his former proteges, Akeem "The African Dream" and "The Doctor of Style" Slick are the men chosen to induct him. I say from that list, if I had to pick eight inductees (same number as last year), I'd pick; Dusty Rhodes Ted DiBiase Bob Backlund Howard Finkel The Von Erichs Nick Bockwinkel Mr. T (For the Celebrity wing. If they're going to pick someone, might as well be him. Since he actually did more than one appearence with the WWE) The Original Shiek (Seeing as they're in Detroit) Of course my list is filled with way too many guys who are more known for their careers in other promotions so it probably won't happen. -
I don't know much about him but DDP always seemed professional and willing to put guys over. Sometimes, overly so, so it was a detriment to his own career (See; pretty much his entire WWE run).
-
I saw that on PTI today. He tore his ACL and MCL, and is out for at least the rest of this season. Dumbass, indeed. At this rate, with Pierce, Szerbiack (sp?), Allen, Theo Ratliff, Delonte West and Brian Scalabrine all out, I'll be starting for The Celtics when I go to see them play against The Lakers on January 31st. Heck, the roster is so depleted, that Doc Rivers and another assistant coach were part of the practice squad yesterday.

Not only no; but hell no! And this is coming from a guy who owns Jamiroquai's Greatest Hits! I say the title is passed on down to Bootsy Collins. The man just screams out funky.

Best Ben Folds/Ben Folds Five songs....
King Kamala replied to SpikeFayeJettEdBebop's topic in Music
I'm potentially seeing him on May 9th playing with The Boston Pops. It would be my third time seeing him (A good but slightly blah show at The University of New Hampshire in May '05 and a really good show at The University of Maine last April were the other two times) Should be interesting to say the least to see him play with one of the world's most famous orchestras. -
