WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot
King Kamala replied to JoeDirt's topic in General Wrestling
Ha, I don't remember that part but it all makes sense. The return of Johnny B. Badd could have saved WCW! -
Vault is literally Surge put into a snazzy new bottle. I bet Coke had a whole warehouse filled with Surge and decided they had to find a way to sell it off. But they couldn't trick me. YOU HEAR ME COKE? YOU CAN'T TRICK ME! I'M UP ON YOUR SCHEMES!

Who had an incredibly brief feud with Allan Funk during the dying days of WCW Saturday Night in early 2000.

Here's one I did http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/trad...eams=2~16~16~16 KG and Wally together again at last- after a month long separation!

IIRC the other guy on the WWF team was "The One" Billy Gunn.

Marc Mero also appeared once on WCW TV, IIRC during the New Blood Vs Millionaire Club angle in the spring of 2000. -
I know it may not be the best from a technical stand point but the Ted DiBiase/The Undertaker/Rhythym and Blues Vs Dusty Rhodes/Koko B. Ware/Hart Foundation match at Survivor Series 90 is my all time favorite. I watched it a couple of months ago and it still holds up. A fun match with a cool Bret Hart-Ted DiBiase mini match at the end.

I asked this question on another board but I haven't gotten an answer so I'll try here. Anyways,I was looking through CRZ old RAW reviews from 93 and I found something intriguing. On the 9-27-93 episode (The one with the WWF Intercontinental title battle royal), Jimmy Snuka made an appearence, winning a squash match with the Superfly Splash. I looked on Graham's site for results in September/October of 93 and I saw that Jimmy Snuka wrestled a match against a young Brian Christopher at a house show at Madison Square Garden. Anyways, I was wondering what the deal was with Snuka's return? Was it supposed to be a couple of matches deal? Or were there long term plans for Superfly? Snuka was beyond washed up in 93, so I'm going to have to guess it was supposed to be a short term deal but if you're going to trot out an old legend why do it in the middle of the year on a random episode of RAW and not on a pay per view? Anyone know what was up with Snuka's return in 93?

But it makes for great television at least and it was the setting for the 90s comedy classic, Heavyweights. It does serve some purpose.

I wouldn't call them one of the most popular but if you're vaguely interested in the musical scene these days, you should know who Black Label Society are or at least know what Zak Wylde looks like. -
I went to a WCW Saturday Night taping on May 19th, 1998 ( I remember the date because it was the day before my birthday and the tickets were an early birthday present) in Portland, Maine. It was two days after Slamboree so the NWO Wolfpac Vs NWO Hollywood angle was super hot and the Goldberg chants were LOUD. Goldberg was advertised but didn't show. All through the night, David Penzer hyped a match between an NWO Wolfpac member and a NWO Hollywood member. Well in the main event, they delivered....Konnan Vs The Giant (With Scott Hall in his corner for some reason, which was odd since Hall wasn't on the card except the main event. Maybe he was "chemically altered") Despite the craptastic sounding main event (Which wasn't that bad due to the hot crowd that thought Konnan could actually beat The Giant), the card wasn't bad, in fact it was one of the better cards I've been to. Sure, a good portion of the matches were squashes. But you got something like 20 matches for a $20 ticket, you can't get any better than that. And there were several really rippin' matches, Match 3 of the Best of 7 Series between Chris Benoit and Booker T was on the taping, as was a really good match between Chavo Guerrero Jr (With Chris Jericho in his corner) Vs Dean Malenko and as always, a terrific six man lucha spotfest featuring Juventeud Guerrera. Overall I thought it was quite a great card. Sadly, that was the only time I ever saw WCW because that was their first and only appearence in Portland.

Just yellow mustard and onions on this Ugandan Giant's hot dogs.

I really enjoyed Galaxy Quest when I saw it. I came in with low expectations cause the only reasons I was seeing it was because the screening of Toy Story 2 was sold out. After I saw both movies, I liked Galaxy Quest as much if not a bit more than Toy Story 2. A Tim Allen film that was a big flop that I really enjoyed was Big Trouble. I thought it was a really fun action comedy with a great cast.

Count me in too as a 3 Count mark. I loved it when Tank Abbott was their manager wearing that shirt with the nipples peaking out. I thought Tank portrayed the "Big Goofy guy who could snap and punch you out at any moment" well. I also liked The Hurricane during the first few months of the gimmick, it was good for what it was ( a comedy gimmick that opened up the show) To answer TAP's question, WCW Pro was around until Fall of 98 (The last episode according to DDTDigest was September 27th, 1998) -
You know which "famous" character actor should host SNL? Philip Seymour Hoffman. I don't know why but I think he could be a solid host. I still don't get why they got Peter Saarsgaard to host, does somebody in high places at SNL owe him a favor?

I agree with whoever said Summerslam 93. Besides the squash matches (Which are too short to be considered really terrible) and The Giant Gonzalez/Undertaker match, the whole pay per view was rock solid. Even Lex Luger/Yokozuna was 10x better than it had any right to be. A pay per view I never find talked about that I really enjoyed was SuperBrawl VIII. The undercard is tough to beat (Booker T/Rick Martel, Chris Jericho/Juvy, DDP/Benoit) and the main event serves its purpose. I think SuperBrawl VIII is the show Starcade 97 should have been. I also think World War III 97 is pretty underrated, sure the battle royal sucked as always but the undercard was pretty damn good in my opinion.

For some reason I really enjoyed the Pirates skit. What can I say? I guess I'm a suckeRRRRRR for a good pirate joke. Who thought it'd be a good idea for Peter Saarsgarrd to host? I mean I wouldn't even say he's one of the most recognizeable character actors You're right when you say it seems like they're taking a show off. Totally pedestrian show.

Alright, I've got a couple questions related to each other, I've heard that The Brothers of Destruction were supposed to face Haku and Rikishi at WrestleMania XVII. But it obviously got replaced by Triple H Vs The Undertaker. Now why did it get replaced by that? Was it because there was nobody else interesting to feud with Triple H for the biggest show of the year? Or was it because Vince thought the Brothers of Destruction Vs Samoans match would suck? Second thought, what were the Samoans doing during WrestleMania? Less than six months earlier, Rikishi was in one of the biggest angles of the year and now he wasn't even involved in the card. Did injuried keep them off the card

Live at Knebworth, Parts 1, 2 and 3 (A giant British rock festival from 1990. It has Eric Clapton, Genesis, Dire Straits, Elton John, Paul McCartney, Tears for Fears, Pink Floyd, Page and Plant on it amongst others) Music for Montserrat (A huge charity concert at Royal Albert Hall in 1997. Has Paul McCartney, Elton John, Sting, Mark Knopfler, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, Jimmy Buffet, Carl Perkins on it amongst others) What's Eating Gilbert Grape?

Has Honky Tonk Man in WCW in 94 been mentioned? I think he won the TV title but it was still a pretty damn forgettable run. -
Hmm Dusty on the creative team means that Shelton Benjamin's mama could be played by Saphire......... Wait has Saphire been dead for like ten years or is she still alive?

Yeah it was a federation in 2000 (I want to say 2000 but it might have been late 99), it prided itself on being an old school wrestling federation (No swearing, no half naked women, no hardcore matches, etc, etc.). Ted DiBiase was the commissioner but other than that there was little star power. I mean Dan Severn was their "big name". To no one's surprise, the WXO was cancelled after 4 or 5 weeks. -

Although this has been managed indirectly, Road Warrior Animal's stint in WCW in its dying days was weird. He was the mystery man in a four way match between Sid, Scott Steiner and Jeff Jarrett and everybody thought the Mystery Man would be Hulk Hogan or Sting or someone huge.........nope...just Road Warrior Animal. -
...or going to D.C. Seriously, if Killa Cam isn't safe there, who is?! One of the best things about going to the 9:30 Club (when you're coming into D.C. from the south) is that, as you head west down 7th Street, the neighborhood gets exponentially more threatening with each block. Totally fun, and there's the biggest Popeye's I've ever seen there, too. Yeah I was in that neightborhood during a DC vacation, I was going to a Wizards game and I was looking for somewhere to eat and each street got more and more shifty looking. I was like "Hmm I should head back now..."
