WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot

Probably, they could have even vaguely hinted at Sid and Hogan's past feud in the WWF and the fact that Hogan never pinned Sid (or vice versa, really).

    Taco Bell big box meal

Any of the Yum! Brand Big Three would have killed Spurlock. That being said I haven't had Taco Bell in months and I'm tempted to make the half hour drive to the nearest one to get this motherfucker.
  3. Has anybody seen the extended trailer for Crash: The TV Series. I can't find it on YouTube but good lord, it looks even worse than it sounds on paper. Though it appears that Dennis Hopper is going to bring the unintentional comedy and provide my new subtitle!

Hector Garza FTW. Again, even as a mark, I could tell that the luchadors in the six man tag at Royal Rumble '97 were guys that clearly weren't good enough or were too old for WCW's cruiserweight division. Yet they gave that match a good ten or so minutes. I know it was in Texas but yeesh...

WCW facts, tidbits, and stuff people forgot

I wrote a letter to PWI or WOW magazine back in the early part of this decade but it didn't get published. Embarrassingly enough, my vague recollection of it was that I defended WCW in some way.

Oasis: clutching to relevance till their knuckles turn white

I immediately thought of Pulp after I made the post but didn't they sort of predate Britpop? Granted, their peak years were during Britpop's peak years. I never really got into them all that much for pretty much the reasons gtd explained which is not to say they're not a great band.

Amusingly enough, I think I have that coloring book somewhere. I got it for fifty cents at an Ames clearance sale. Ah Ames, worst department store ever. Brings back some memories. Benoit looks black in that picture and Malenko looks like a huskier version of young Ben Stiller. And I don't think you could draw a less flattering picture of Naitch. I hate criticizing a coloring book picture too much but I could probably draw a better picture of The Horsemen!

None of those guys were around for TAKA's reign. And Vince was never really behind the Light Heavyweight Division anyways. I'm amazed that the belt was around until 2001. And that they kept the Cruiserweight Championship until last year. I wasn't talking about Taka's reign in particular. I was talking more about the first few months of the division. And I did say they were only around for an appearance or two (Sasuke might have lasted a tad bit longer- like a month or two). But yeah, everything else is right. Even as a mark, I always that the only reason Vince started a light heavyweight division was because he felt obligated because the cruiserweight divison in WCW was so successful.

Yeah, this is the first Tyler Perry movie to have some famous white people in it. And according to IMDb, he's got two movies coming out in February. Good lord.

Oasis: clutching to relevance till their knuckles turn white

I'm with Chilly Willy, Blur was really the standout group of the Britpop explosion in the early to mid '90s. Though I have a huge soft spot for three or four Oasis songs.

You make a fine point, Truthiness. After Taka and Christopher, who the hell did they have? Sure you had Tajiri, Super Crazy, and the aforementioned Great Sasuke among others dropping in for a bit but for regulars, I think it was just those two, Scott Taylor, and Mr. Aguila in the first six months or so.

I really like Taka too but he didn't really have the charisma to justify having a division built around him. He'd have been better as the #2 face in the light heavyweight division. And I hate to agree with cabbage but he's right about the Memphis schtick. I guess it could work well in a light heavyweight division (Hell, look at Disco Inferno's forays into the cruiserweight division in WCW are evidence) but it only works if you have a fiery, pissed off guy to play off Memphis heel schtick and Taka couldn't really do that.

My view to remakes is pretty similar to Milkhawk's. I just find it hard to get up in arms about them anymore. As bad as they might be, they don't really ruin the appeal of the original. Obviously, there are some movies that absolutely under no circumstances should be remade but those are really a small percentage. And really, if you don't like the idea of someone remaking one of your favorites, then just don't watch it. *rant over* Hey bob, how's Righteous Kill projected to do? DeNiro and Pacino aren't really box office draws on their own (were they ever really?) but I wonder what the appeal is of seeing them together for more than a couple of scenes. I'm also a bit wary of it given its release date.

Canadians also still like Oasis (IIRC- that's where the dude tackled Noel). Maybe they feel obligated to like them since they have The Queen on their currency?

    What did you eat today?

Breakfast: Oatmeal with some brown sugar, fruit, water Lunch: Chicken tenders, potato salad, actual salad, pink lemonade Dinner: Penne pasta with red sauce, assorted vegetables, water Dessert: Dish of butter pecan ice cream
  17. Guys, you're blowing it out of proportion. For one, it's a rumor. Two, it just says he's been offered the role. My opinion; Bring back Matt Salinger!

Yep, The WWF Light Heavyweight title is up there with the WCW Hardcore title for the position as "Most Useless Title of All Time". Unlike the latter, the Light Heavyweight title did have some potential. They just picked the wrong guy to showcase (Should have been Great Sasuke instead of Taka). Though I guess according to wikipedia (reliable source, I know), WWE fired Sasuke after he bragged about how he would only defend the title in Japan and wouldn't drop it on WWE TV. Whoops. It didn't help that WWE would seemingly forget about the title for months on end.

    Mr. Coffee/Mr. Tea

I'm a tea man. I'm a sucker for herbal tea during the winter. I've never really been into coffee but I enjoy coffee flavored ice cream and the occasional bottle of coffee milk. Go figure.

I actually think they were all decent to good workers given the opportunity but the comedy gimmick just sort of dragged them down and by the time Christopher got released in '01, Scotty and Rikishi really didn't seem to give a fuck about anything other than cashing their paychecks.

    WCW SuperBrawl VI

I've always thought the same thing about Harlem Heat, cabbage. I like Booker and Stevie is one of the most entertaining characters in pro wrestling and given the fact that they were ten time WCW Tag Team Champions, you think they'd have had some good matches but they just didn't. Their matches with The New Jersey Triad during their reunion weren't bad but that's about it. Their unbearably long series with The Nasty Boys produced some particularly awful matches. It seems like they fought each other every other week from '94 to '96.

I don't buy The Wicker Man being one of the worst movies ever made. The first hour or so is just plain boring but not spectacularly bad and the last half hour is spectacularly bad but wildly entertaining. Bad movie but nowhere near one of the worst. And I might catch some flak for it but it's not like The Wicker Man was one of those untouchable movies that just shouldn't have been remade. They just really, really bungled it with the incredibly unneccessary alterations to the plot. Hey, apparently they're planning a sequel to the original with Christopher Lee and Britt Ecklund returning. Odd. What decades old movie will they do an unneccessary sequel to next?
  23. I've always liked Will Smith so I might not be as pissed as some but this is just a bad idea. Didn't he learn anything from Wild Wild West? Or any remake of old TV series/comic books where black actors play popular characters that were originally white? I mean it's not neccessarily a race thing as I'm sure they could have been good (and perhaps this Captain America remake will be), they just all sucked! On a similar note, I've always wondered what it would be like if a white actor played an iconic African American character? People would be in an uproar if Nicholas Cage played George Jefferson.

    So wait....Jericholic82 works WHERE?!

I feel bamboozled! I've been half ass defending Jericholic for months! I feel like a damn fool...
  25. The word that comes to mind for Branagh's Hamlet is excessive. Too over the top, too many unneccessary cameos (Though I actually liked Billy Crystal and Charlton Heston's bit parts), just too much of everything. I don't think you could pay me to watch all four hours of it in one sitting but I liked it a hell of a lot better than Hawke's. Honestly, I dug The Mel Gibson version the most out of the ones we watched. We didn't see Laurence Olivier's because the teacher thought that the class would think it was boring because it was black and white. Sadly, she was probably right. Same reason we didn't watch the film adaptation of The Grapes of Wrath. Stupid kids!
