This is more of a befuddling move than outright terrible one. Who know whether Prinze will be good or not or whether he'll even serve much of a role on the writing staff? The only precedent for "celebrities joining the writing staff of professional wrestling promotions" is Bob Mould's brief stint on the WCW writing staff in late '99/early '00. And besides Freddie Prinze Jr's career isn't exactly flourishing. His sitcom flopped and his last few movies have all been direct to DVD. He's probably just following his passions now that his career has kind of tanked.

I don't know what the hell this dope is talking about. "Everyone led it wrong directions?" First off, hardly anyone starts these threads anymore besides myself and second, I can't remember a single one where we bitched about the current product. Yes, there was excessive bitching about Vince Russo's WCW but that sort of deserved it. And if you wanted the thread to accentuate the positive than why was the first one about X-Factor, one of the least liked stables of all time? Just look at the other "Let's Talk About" threads and you'll see your argument doesn't even make sense. Anyways, I don't think anyone will disagree that this match made for some exciting television but in the long run was one of the worst business decisions made by WCW. Like Diamonddust and mellowvengeful said, it could have had a monster buyrate and made millions for WCW. Even in the immediate aftermath, this match meant nothing. Hogan continued to be the focus of the show while Goldberg was stuck squashing mid-carders.

I like this idea. Anyways, I have Dreams on Spec ( a documentary about screenwriting) up next and Homicide: Life on Street Season Five and behind that I've got a couple more documentaries (Salesman, Mayor of The Sunset Strip) and some 70s movies (Two Lane Blacktop, Pulp,The Watermelon Man). I've got 110 items in my queue so obviously don't want to list the whole thing but it's a lot of documentaries and TV serieses with smattering of independent films, older films I haven't seen, and wrestling DVDs.

All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft
King Kamala replied to PILLS! PILLS! PILLS!'s topic in Draft Faggotry
I think most of our rosters are fairly consistant though. Most of my picks reached their peak sometime in the '70s or '80s and the ones picked outside of that era- I believe would have fit in that era. That's why I didn't bother to pick very many cruiserweights- it just wouldn't fit in with my roster. I hesitated on picking Public Enemy for a couple of rounds because I wasn't sure if their style would fit in with the semi old-school mentality I have. The thing is though- building these cards will be all about pacing. You can have the scientific wrestling showcase, the wild brawl, the goofy comedy match, and the crazy ass spotfest with people flying off ladders through tables and thumbtacks on the same card all on the same card and make it work as long as you pace it well. It's happened before. Just look at WrestleMania X-7- it had all of those types of matches. -
I must admit I felt mildly hypocritical proclaiming my lack of interest in a comedy as dumb looking as Step Brothers while staring at my copies of Out Cold and Pootie Tang on DVD.

Thanks Milky (er...Nighthawk). I sort of realized it was a joke after the post.

All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft
King Kamala replied to PILLS! PILLS! PILLS!'s topic in Draft Faggotry
My next pick is a guy who IMHO is an absolute steal in the 28th round. I'm probably in the minority here but this guy is my biggest steal The Heavenly Bodies back in the 16th round. He'll make a great addition to my upper mid-card and could probably work well as a main eventer on occassion. Like the aforementioned Heavenly Bodies, he's a wrestler who really came along ten years too late. If he had came on the scene in 1981 instead of 1991, I'm sure he would have been a massive superstar. Improbably, this wrestler seemed poised for a career breakthrough at the beginning of the Attitude Era before he ended up being forced to retire due to a serious back injury. Nevertheless, he managed to have a good amount of success in a somewhat brief career. Obviously, I'll be using him as an upstanding babyface who is ready to stand up for his country and to stand up against all of the dastardly heels soiling the good name of professional wrestling. This man is a two-time former GWF North American Heavyweight Champion, a former AJPW All Asian Tag Team Champion, and a former two time WCW Tag Team Champion... With my 28th pick in The All Time Wrestling Roster Draft, I'm proud to select... ...The Patriot Obviously, I'm taking The Del Wilkes incarnation. -
I try not to come forth as overly rude on this board but Patrick Swayze as The Joker is one of the worst fantasy castings I've ever heard. I really hope whoever suggested that was kidding.

Weekend boxoffice report July 25-27

Space Chimps was relatively low budget for a CGI film like Hoodwinked so it should make back its money on DVD. It did get released at an odd time though. It seems like a movie the studio would dump in September or mid January. -

Step Brothers is the first Will Ferrell movie that I've had absolutely no desire whatsoever to see. From what I'm hearing, it doesn't sound like I'm missing much. Every Ferrell comedy since Anchorman was slightly worse than the last. I haven't outright hated any of them but Semi-Pro was incredibly mediocre. I was almost 100% certain a week ago that The Mummy 3 would be the movie that knocked The Dark Knight off the top but now I'm not so sure. Brendan Fraser action movies still are a bit of a draw and the trailer looks decent but I haven't heard much buzz about it from friends and acquaintences. I think it'll probably beat The Dark Knight by a couple million but I wouldn't be surprised to see TDK on top again. The movie will have an amazing amount of people coming back for a second or third (or fourth or fifth) time and there are still a few stragglers who haven't seen it yet. -

Wow, even less people cared about the new X-Files movie than I thought. -
I actually haven't seen that one myself. Not sure why though. Maybe I'm subconsciously waiting in vain for the hype to die down. On a completely different note, Darren Aronofsky is slated to direct the Robocop remake. Don't know if it will be any good but it's certainly an intriguing choice. Story from Variety

All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

Well...there went my shot of getting the three most famous Nature Boys. There are still two left that I can think of so maybe if I can still have a Nature Boys Vs Nature Boys tag team match! -
Marty Garner is best known by current WWE fans as the random guy MVP squashed at No Mercy '06 and to watchers of latter day WCW Saturday Night (IE myself) as Frog, PG-13's Lodiesque lackey. And he apparently sued WWE and settled out of court after getting injured by that Pedigree. I'm surprised they've taken him back in the first place (even if it is as a job guy) and that he's so desparate to get hired. You think almost getting paralyzed would make you wary of working with WWE again.

Ed Wood alone proves Tim Burton isn't a total hack.

Suggestion for the next TSM Q&A- A poster at another board tells me that Lanny Poffo responds to every one of his e-mails personally. I think a The Genius Q&A has massive potential. His shoot interview was surprisingly one of the best I've heard. Only problem is the Q&A wouldn't really fit in the WWE folder. Then again, neither did Gangrel's. The address according to his website is [email protected]

I think Nolan's Batman is way more grounded in reality and better than Burton's but I don't think it's "truer to the comic". Jingus put it best in his review on The Pit, The Dark Knight does as good of a real life portrayal as you can of a crazy guy dressed as a scuzzy clown battling a crazy, rich vigilante dressed as a bat but the whole idea of Batman leans more towards fantasy than reality. Just for kicks, here's my rankings of the original Planet of The Apes series while we're on the subject 1. Planet of the Apes 2. Conquest of the Planet of the Apes 3. Escape from the Planet of the Apes 4. Beneath the Planet of the Apes (Basically this one is the first movie except less good) 5. Battle of the Planet of the Apes (ape has killed ape. ape has killed ape. ape has killed ape. ape has killed ape. ape has killed ape. ape has killed ape. why was John Huston in this? ape has killed ape. ape has killed ape. ape has killed ape. ape has killed ape. ape has killed ape.)
-
Shit, I was confusing the two. What a brainfart. Conquest is my second favorite behind the first.
-
Well luckily, I didn't actually go (the show sold out a month ago) but an unfortunate acquaintence did.
-
I can agree with that. His original movies are generally good. But his track record with adaptations is spotty at best. His Batman movies haven't really aged well at all (I still like '89 overall and I enjoy parts of Batman Returns) and Charlie and The Chocolate Factory was met with indifference at best. Oh and I don't think I've ever hated a movie as much as I hated his adaptation of Planet of The Apes. I mean, there are probably dozens of worse movies but something about that triggered the angry Planet of The Apes fan in me. I loved the first four movies (Conquest as far as I'm concerned didn't happen. Same with the ensuing TV series) but I haven't even watched them since the remake came out. That's how much I hate that movie.

So the shitty Smackdown!/ECW house show I was talking about last night ended up sounding crappier than advertised. The Big Show no-showed and they apparently ended up with an exciting double main event of Mark Henry Vs Matt Hardy and The Great Khali Vs Finlay. Apparently, Sign Guy was there in the front row so that's got to count for something, right? RIGHT!?
-
So I watched Year of The Dog last night and man, they really misadvertised this one when it was in theaters a year or two back. I was expecting a somewhat lighthearted indie comedy and got a really dark indie comedy about a woman's journey into veganism and animal rights activism. Somehow, despite it not being particularly funny for the most part and having a plot that sounds like a movie I would just not enjoy, I sort of liked this one. I probably would have been pissed if I saw it in theaters.
-
I recognize that Tim Burton is definitely more style than substance. Yet I can only think of one movie of his that I wasn't entertained by (Planet of The Apes) and he has two that are in My Top 10 All Time Favorites (Big Fish and Ed Wood). I even liked his version of Charlie and The Chocolate Factory

Yeah, the ambigously gay tag team and kickass cowboys. Couldn't get more different. Though after both are homoerotic in their own way.
