Wrestling Roster Draft: Luxe & Reduxe
King Kamala replied to PILLS! PILLS! PILLS!'s topic in Draft Faggotry
Whoosh. Anyways, I like Tominator's Jumping Bomb Angels pick. I was incredibly close to picking them myself but then I decided to go with singles ladies. I also like his "State of The Union" idea. I was about to post one myself but then realized that we're going forty rounds and thus four rounds away from the halfway point...so I'll refrain for now. -
Kane and MMA fighter in bar brawl?
King Kamala replied to BruteSquad_BRODY's topic in The WWE Folder
Also, I think Kane and Sylvia were goaded into fighting each other by the serial pillist. -
I'd have paid the $7 for a matinee ticket to see HBK Sweet Chin Music Ben Stiller.

No, it was supposed to be the TNA logo. Man, looking at her Online World of Wrestling picture gallery, Madusa really should have never gotten that boob and nose job. That was probably the shark jumping moment of her career. Hey here's a fun fact for you guys about Bull Nakano. Did you know after she retired she lost a ton of weight and became a professional women's golfer? -

Alright then...I've decided that I'm going to start a women's division and I better start now with some very good picks still left on the board. With my first pick, I'm going to pick two women who were feuding when I was starting to get into wrestling and to this day, the two produced some of the best women's matches I've seen (granted I haven't seen any SHIMMER or Japanese stuff). My first pick is a great multifaceted character. She can be a good heel manager (which I'm surprised she hadn't been picked as yet) or an All American girl babyface wrestler. I'm actually going to use her as the latter. She was also part of one of the pivotal moments in The Monday Night Wars (even though her later WCW runs really kind of sucked). She's a three time WWF Women's Champion, a former AWA World Women's Champion, a*coughFUCKVINCERUSSOcough* former WCW Cruiserweight Champion, and was PWI's Rookie of The Year in 1988. She is... Alundra Blayze Yeah I know this is a picture of Madusa. Just simply couldn't resist the gratuitous T and A. Now her opponent is one of the biggest female stars out of Japan and another gal I'm a bit surprised hasn't been picked. She terrified a six year old King Kamala and she was a better wrestler than a good portion of the men on the roster of WWF circa '94. She's a former WWF Women's Champion, a former WWWA World Heavyweight Champion, a former WWWA World Tag Team Champion, a former CMLL World Women's Champion, and a member of The Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame. With my next pick, I'm proud to select... Bull Nakano And now for some more gratuitous T and A. Apologies for that lame joke...let's move on! -

Seeing how sivy is making up a pick that expired at 2:31 A.M.....does this technically mean that tominator's pick expired about ten minutes ago? Got my pick ready, just waiting for some confirmation. Can't really blame anybody for missing a pick at this time (late Saturday night/early Sunday morning) -
Scott Keith was brought up in another thread in this folder and brought to mind a vague recollection of an incident a few years back where Dave Meltzer called him out for attributing some of his BS to him. What was Scooter's reaction?

WrestleMania Roundtable Part Four:2000 to 2004
King Kamala replied to King Kamala's topic in General Wrestling
Really? The only one in the chat who hated on that match was HTQ...who I admit really hated on it. I'd like to see his argument on why its a negative star match. I personally thought it was one of the more entertaining matches of the evening. Though I hated how Flair basically looked like a bitch during that whole feud. I would have had him go over in a rematch at Backlash or something. Question for everybody; What star rating would you give Hogan-Rock? Personally, my opinion has always been its a ** match (which about as good as you're going to get with '00s Hogan) in terms of workrate but in terms of atmosphere, it's *****. So I go right in the middle with ***1/2, which is the same rating I'd give Hogan-Warrior. -

As much as I hate P.E.T.A, I'm going to rip off Ingrid Newkirk and serve an excellent pork loin at my funeral reception...only it turns out that pork loin is me. "End of The Road" by Boyz II Men would have to be played at some point during the reception. -

See, the thing is, the match itself isn't all that bad. Workrate-wise, it's undoubtedly way better than Rock-Hogan. Not as good as their previous efforts but a solid ***-***1/2 affair. It's just the stupid feud that preceded it and the dead crowd just absolutely kill it. -

See I don't know. I waver back on forth RE: Whether Triple H/Jericho should have gone last. Like I said in the roundtable, I'm a traditionalist who thinks generally that The World title match should go on last but nobody will deny that Rock/Hogan was built up way better and was the focus of more of the attention in the weeks leading up to it. So in that sense, yeah, you're probably right. I just think if Triple H/Jericho had been built up better with Triple H coming for revenge on Jericho for almost ending his career instead of feuding over a dog's leg getting run over and Jericho being Stephanie's chickenshit wimp lackey then absolutely nobody would be complaining about it going on last over Rock/Hogan. There were several more higher profile matches than Angle/Brock at XIX but nobody complained about that going on last because it was built up well and people generally cared about that feud. -
Yeah, that was really surreal. I had to rewind it two or three times on the DVR just to make sure that was what he said. Really bizarre. I guess the censors were busy watching Obama on Leno. Also RE: Last Night's Kimmel, I wonder if the the WWE folder is going nuts over Cena questioning The Rock's love of the biz?

WrestleMania Roundtable Part Four:2000 to 2004

Yeah, I vaguely recall WrestleMania X-8 initially being rated really well by the IWC in the immediate aftermath of the show. But every WrestleMania seems to be rated really highly (or really poorly) right after the show. I think the consensus now is that it's a slightly above average show at best and a mediocre one at worst. Just look at the panelists' here reaction (not saying we're spokesmen for the IWC or anything)); 909 and Ed Wood Caulfield really hated it, HTQ kind of didn't like it, I thought it was average, and Smues thought it was pretty good. Like I said in the roundtable regarding WrestleMania X-8, if I were to rank all of the WrestleManias, X-8 would probably be exactly in the middle. There's enough decent stuff there to separate itself from the dregs but nothing spectacular enough to distinguish itself as one of the great WrestleManias. -
Yeah but Sherri managed DiBiase for a couple months in late '91/early '92. I really don't know if they explained her being there (I'm guessing she needed something to do with Savage retired) or her leaving.

Somewhat related not so fun fact; one of the male members of Ace of Base was a member of a white power group as a teenager. Edit: Kreese ain't lying. What an odd song choice.
-
Where's the comeback hit of the '90s? Kidding aside, Where the fuck is Humpin' Around"?"
-
"The Sign" would have been a worthy nominee but it's always been my opinion that "All That She Wants" is the superior Ace of Base song. The less heralded "It's A Beautiful Life" may have been my favorite overall.

"Friends In Low Places" has been a part of many of drunken singalongs I've participated in. Speaking of dance music being snubbed, "C'Mon 'n' Ride It (The Train)" by Quad City DJs was the highlight of many middle school dances. The only video I could find was one of people dancing to it on some low rent Soul Train knockoff. I didn't know low rent Soul Train knockoffs were still around in 1996. Highlight obviously is the lame white guy breaking it down.

Psicosis was very nearly one of my picks last round until I realized Tiger Mask was still on the board. Good pick there. -
Ah...Bud "Smokey" Greene (Winner of the Michigan Bob Seger Look A Like Contest 1978), we hardly knew ye. I think I'll pick him in the next round of the All Time Wrestling Roster Draft.

By the way, couple of slots open for next week's roundtable, covering WrestleManias 21 through 24, next Tuesday at 8 P.M. EST. Give me a PM or holler at me here if you want in. Preferably someone who hasn't done one before. -
The Agent of Oblivion question of the day

Depends on what you were singing. -
Main event guys, in general, didn't wrestle very much on Saturday Night after Nitro started and especially after Thunder started. Though I remember Sid (when he was World Champion) showing up randomly to beat the shit out of The Texas Hangmen and cut a promo on Jeff Jarrett on one of the final episodes shortly before Uncensored 2000.

Alright, now that it's narrowed down, I'm going to start voting. Salt-N-Pepa-"Whatta Man": I like Beck (he's not a TSM favorite but fuck it- I like a good portion of his stuff) but "Loser" is one of his weaker songs. Montell Jordan- "This Is How We Do It": This song will get a party rocking to this day. I'm pulling for this to make a deep run in the tournament. Snoop Doggy Dogg- "Gin and Juice" (see "This Is How We Do It"'s entry) Kriss Kross- "Jump" (Nostalgia pick mostly. I loved Totally Krossed Out as a tyke though "I Missed The Bus" was my personal favorite) Warren G (ft. Nate Dogg)- "Regulate" (Another strong Final Four contender. I love "Virtual Insanity" but "Regulate" wins in a squash) LL Cool J- "Mama Said Knock You Out" (Mo' Money Mo' Problems has never been one of my favorite Biggie songs.) Fiona Apple- "Criminal" (I love Weezer but none of their music videos serves as inspiration for a wank session so Fiona edges them out. Good song too!) Jay-Z- "Can I Get A..." ("One is really overplayed. "Can I Get A..." is another big nostalgia pick.) Nirvana- "Heart Shaped Box" (OK...these guys may be one of the most overrated bands in rock and roll history but I can't in good conscience vote Blink 182 over them) Stone Temple Pilots- "Interstate Love Song" (video creeped the hell out of me as a seven year old. One of the few STP songs I enjoy. Remember the thread unironically asking if this was the last great rock song? Good times!) Smashing Pumpkins- "1979" (Great song, good video, another nostalgia song. Easy pick. Though "Kiss From A Rose" becomes 10x cooler when you learn its about cocaine) Cranberries- "Linger" (One of the great pop ballads of the decade IMHO. I was kind of depressed when the singer from The Cranberries showed up in Click as a wedding singer singing this.) Green Day- Basket Case (Because my brother overplayed Jagged Little Pill from approximately 1995 to '97. Can't stomach a lot of those songs to this day) REM- "Losing My Religion" (Another video that creeped the hell out of me as a kid. A great song) Tom Cochrane- "Life Is A Highway" (I'm with Inc- great song. Seldom is it that I will hear this song and not lightly pump my fist in appreciation) Third Eye Blind- "Semi Charmed Life" (Hoping this makes a deep run in the tournament as well. This song is 1998) TLC- "Waterfalls" (Fun fact, up until the time I was like, 11, I thought the lyrics for this song were "Go go Jason Waterfalls" Thought they were the dumbest lyrics I'd ever heard but then I realized I was in fact the idiot) Skee-Lo- "I Wish" (Was my jam back when I was 7) DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince- "Summertime" (Probably the best DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince song...though I'm not sure how high praise that is) Tupac (ft. Dr. Dre)- "California Love" (coin flip pick, really like both) Dr. Dre (ft. Snoop Doggy Dogg)- "Ain't Nothin But A G Thing" (Another tough match up between two songs I love but this song is '90s hip hop) Beastie Boys-" Sabotage"(Another supertough match up. I went with "Sabotage" solely because it's more '90s while "Lovefool" is more timeless. I could have went with "Lovefool" with the exact same reasoning *shrugs*) Eagle Eye Cherry- "Save Tonight" (One of my favorite one hit wonders of the '90s and younger brother of a one hit wonder of the '80s!) Red Hot Chili Peppers- "Under The Bridge" (We Want Chili Willie!) Radiohead- "Creep" (Tough one..."Rosa Parks" is a good Outkast song but not one of their best. "Creep" is the Radiohead song that idiots who don't like Radiohead like. Inexplicably, I'm going with that. Gut choice here. I think it's entirely related to the fact that it rips off "The Air That I Breathe" by The Hollies which I'll champion when we do the Greatest Song of the '70s tournament.) New Radicals- "You Get What You Give" (One of the great songs of the '90s. Hope it makes a deep run) Sinead O'Connor- "Nothing Compares 2 U" (Another great ballad of the '90s. Song kills me) Faith No More- "Epic" (A big fan of piano solos at the end of raucous songs. See also "Layla") Lisa Loeb- "Stay (I Missed You)" (Because I don't want AoO to delete Kinetic's hard work and because Lisa Loeb paved the way for Tina Fey and other hot chicks in glases. Grr!) Hootie and The Blowfish- "I Only Wanna Be With You" (I love Ben Folds but Hootie and The Blowfish are 1995) Gin Blossoms- "Hey Jealousy" (Inc is right again- Gin Blossoms don't deserve to be lumped in with the middling middle of the road '90s alt rock acts. New Miserable Experience is a pretty damn good album) Meat Loaf- "I Would Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That" (This one's for BUTT)

Wrestling Roster Draft: Luxe & Reduxe

Hmmm...Billy Jack just popped in my head for one of my next picks and now he's gone. Bah! Well at least he wasn't one of my top two.
