All-Time Wrestling Roster Draft

I really hope that's sarcasm, Hawk. I'm just too tired to sense it without asking right now! -

You know I can't remember either. I don't think there was a single moment where they suddenly turned face. They had been getting a few face pops for quite some time before the face turn.

I'm still befuddled at how many people genuinely love Click. It was half lame-brain Adam Sandler comedy, half lame-brain Frank Capra knockoff.

I think it was like you said- the age old example where the heel manager (Whippleman) got tired of their client (Adam Bomb) losing and had their new hot shot client (Kwang) attack him. To answer the latter part, he feuded with Kwang for a short time as a result of his face turn. And I vaguely recall him feuding with The Million Dollar Corporation. There was also this bizarre aborted feud between him and a babyface Giant Gonzalez. Luckily, Gonzalez left wrestling before it ever came to fruition. That match would have been just brutal.

Hopefully, somebody knows Kaz Hayashi and we can get a Jung Dragons Reunion Q&A! I'm sure TSMers are thrilled at the prospect of asking them about their numerous battles with Three Count.

I always get a kick when WWE openly makes fun of jobber. I don't think a day will come where I won't And Nunzio's still employed by them? Good for him.

Yes, I want to hear what that's all about. My only mildly interesting story RE: old friends is oe of my former childhood friends has a massive porn collection that he likes to brag about and dropped out of college to become a pot dealer. -
I got a suggestion here and I don't think it warranted a thread (and I'm not sure where to put it). Anywho, is there any way to implement a rule where you have to have a certain amount of posts to be able to start threads. I'm bringing this up cause this Display Name guy is goin' nuts starting crappy threads and most crappy threads seem to be started by newbs. I just think it'd be a good idea for the newbs to get an idea what goes in what folder and the dynamics of this board before they start asking us what WWE DVDs they should buy in the Movies folder and if they put music in the Chocolate Socket.

Nice pick Double D. I was briefly considering Tommy Rich for my next pick before I realized Verne was still on the board and decided to go with him. -

1. Without a shadow of the doubt, The Brainbusters. I wanted to have at least three out of the four Horsemen so bad. That one killed me for like a day. 2. I don't really regret any of my picks persay but I do think I jumped the gun on Kerry Von Erich a little bit early. I probably could have waited another round or two for him but maybe I'm wrong. -

Alright, I'm going to go truly old school here for the first time in the draft. Hell, this guy is the definition of old school wrestling. I wanted someone who could go up against Billy Graham with this pick and for Graham's opponent, I wanted a clean cut, All American to contrast with Graham's over the top behavior. He also could very well feud with Ric Flair or Nick Bockwinkel. My next pick's influence on professional wrestling can not be overstated. Besides being a legend in the ring, the man was a successful promoter for over thirty years and trained or help trained 93 wrestlers including; Ric Flair, Bob Backlund, Ricky Steamboat, Curt Hennig, The Iron Sheik, Jimmy Snuka, and many more. This man is a ten time former AWA World Champion, a five time former AWA Tag Team Champion, and a former NWA World Junior Heavyweight Champion. He is a member of the WWE Hall of Fame Class of '06, a member of the Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame's Class of '04, and The Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame's Class of '96. With my ninth selection and the 146th selection overall in the all time wrestling roster draft, I select... Verne Gagne -

One of my biggest regrets wrestling wise was I never got to go to a WCW house show. Even when WCW was at their peak, their house shows sounded hilariously mediocre. And god damn does that show Jingus went to sound horrible. The only match that sounds like it could be half-decent is Kidman-Vampiro and the one word that comes to mind when I remember their mini-feud around that time is "disappointing". Say what you want about WWE but they know how to put on a house show 99% of the time and know how to send the fans home happy. -

Wait, what? I thought that his VH1 show was going to lead to him "playing Giants Stadium" ... and that nothing ever came of it. Where did he perform as a result of that show? (Not trying to call you out on anything, legitimately uncertain if he ended up actually accomplishing by doing the show) The last episode he performed at the Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom.Which amused me endlessly watching the show. Having grown about an hour away from there, The Hampton Beach Casino Ballroom, like most casino ballroom, generally hosts washed up acts from the 70s and 80s (Shit like Eddie Money, KC & The Sunshine Band, The Beach Boys). It was just amusing to see that be the result of Dice's comeback. And the show didn't mention that he was co-headlining with Artie Lange, who had to have been the main attraction for a good portion of the audience. -
My suggestion for the next Q&A: Paul Roma!

Great pick there, Garth. Corino was one of my favorites back in the day. I always wondered why WWE or TNA never gave him a serious run. -

I'm a huge house show mark. I manage to have a decent time even at mediocre ones most of the time. The one exception was a Smackdown! house show on a Monday night in July of '02. There was no Hulk Hogan, no Rock (though I imagine he'd stopped doing house shows completely at this point), no Triple H, not even Jericho. The wrestling itself wasn't terrible for the most part (We got to see Rey before he made his return on TV in a decent match, teaming up with Kidman against Chavo Guerrero Jr and Tajiri and the main event between Kurt Angle and Edge was decent if not slightly rushed) but the experience was terrible. The reason for this being the third person who was supposed to go with my brother and me backed out at the very last minute and our wrestling hating dad decided go with us (we really didn't have a choice as neither of us had licenses at that point) and he was bitching all night. Just a miserable experience and it was a terrible time in WWE history. The arena was only about a third filled. Right before the separate rosters idea gelled and before the Smackdown Six showed up to redeem the show somewhat. Anyways here's the results courtesy of Cawthon's site WWE (Smackdown!) @ Portland, ME - Civic Center - July 1, 2002 (3,388; 3,200 paid) Included an in-ring segment in which Scotty 2 Hotty announced he would soon return to the ring, only for Chief Morley to come out and order him out of the arena Sho Funaki pinned Rico by avoiding a spin kick and using a roll up Lance Storm & Christian defeated John Cena & Steve Bradley when Storm pinned Bradley with the superkick WWE Cruiserweight Champion Jamie Noble pinned the Hurricane as the challenger attempted a suplex into the ring, Nidia swept his feet out from under him and held the leg down during the cover WWE Tag Team Champions Billy Gunn & Chuck Palumbo defeated Val Venis & Hardcore Holly when Gunn pinned Holly with a roll up after a Jungle Kick from Palumbo Billy Kidman & Rey Mysterio Jr. defeated Chavo Guerrero Jr. & Tajiri after Kidman vaulted Rey into the air and Mysterio hit a Frankensteiner off the top on Chavo D-Von Dudley, Batista, & Albert defeated Hugh Morrus, Rob Conway, & Mark Henry when D-Von pinned Conway Torrie Wilson defeated Stacy Keibler in a Bra & Panties match Rikishi pinned Test Edge pinned Kurt Angle, despite outside interference from Billy Gunn, Chuck Palumbo, and Rico; after the match, Edge, Val Venis, Hardcore Holly, Rikishi, and Scotty 2 Hotty held off Gunn, Palumbo, Rico, Christian, Lance Storm, and Test -

Eh, there's enough good stuff on Fall Brawl '00 to drag it up to above average (making it the best WCW PPV of '00 sadly). There's the shockingly good Steiner-Goldberg match, a decent opener, a fun MIA-Three Count six man tag, and The Filthy Animals-Natural Born Thrillers was shaping up to be decent before the weird ending. And Booker T-Nash is about as good of a Nash match as you're going to get not against a guy who's not named Bret Hart or Shawn Michaels. Sure, there's some crap on there (Mike Awesome needing the help of the entire Buffalo Bills offensive line and Gary Coleman to beat Jeff Jarrett, typical Sting-Dark Carnival junk, and I think there was a Harris Boys match on there...) but a lot less than say New Blood Rising or Halloween Havoc. And WCW's minor resurgance in early '01 was depressing to me because deep down I knew it was the end of the line. The last PPV, Greed was the best PPV they had put on in years with a undercard that rocked the shit and a main event that was actually pretty good. -

I'd pay top dollar to see Austin circa '98 against BNB circa '88. Cranda's had a damn fine draft thus far. -
I prefer waffles over pancakes and I even like Eggos (one of those nostalgia foods I guess) but even I think saying that Eggos are better than good pancakes is blasphemous enough to be banished from The Food Folder for eternity.
