Well they certainly announced the Saturday Night taping I went to but I think it was only on local commercials and regionalized promos during episodes of WCW Worldwide and Pro. Now there's one thing I miss about wrestling the promos hyping local house shows and TV tapings. I remember one hyping the Saturday Night taping where Chris Jericho talked about how it was going to be great to wrestle in Portland, Oregon before Mean Gene corrected him. Amusingly enough, I don't think Jericho wrestled that night. I'm sure it's purely coincidental but I don't think I've been as big of a wrestling fan since the death of pro wrestling on Saturdays. I thinkTNA replays Impact then but it just isn't the same. The last Saturday show I remember watching regularly was Metal/Jakked in late '01/early '02. It came on at 7 A.M. but for some reason I always got up to watch it. I guess I needed my weekly fix of Perry Saturn/Funaki matches.

I don't have 24/7 but I do have a bootleg VHS of this show (I don't know if it was ever released on Coliseum Video). This is one of those shows that's fairly interesting but wrestling-wise is just not very good. I don't think anything more needs to be said or really can be said about the greatness of HBK/Mankind but I'll say I think the second best match was Savio Vega Vs Justin Hawk Bradshaw. That was a fun little match.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how ashamed should I be that I have to restrain myself from weeping everytime I hear "100 Years" by Five For Fighting?

Third Eye Blind's self titled debut is a pretty solid album, the other two? Not so much. But "Never Let You Go" is probably their best song and that's off their second album so it's not a total loss. Another power-popish, late 90s alt rock afterthought band that I really enjoyed was Fastball. I think I prefer their minor hit "You're An Ocean" (featuring Billy Preston on piano) over their big hits "The Way" and "Out of My Head". Though I love all three.

I went to a WCW Saturday Night taping. It was two nights after Slamboree '98 and main evented by an epic Konnan-The Giant matchup. It was a pretty loaded Saturday Night taping cause it also had one of the matches in Booker T and Chris Benoit's Best of Seven series. My fondest memory of the show is starting a small "Marty" chant for Marty Jannetty.

Invader3k makes sense only because of his hatred for criminals and people who live in ghettos (insert your "well aren't they the same group" joke here).

I get you, Invader3k and Brody but why Scroby? Am I forgetting something really weird that he did?

Sadly, I think between that post, the "at least Hitler did some things for his people" comment, and admitting he cried at the end of Click, that maybe Laz has gone off the deep end for good.

Oh man, Mr. Hole In One definitely is on topic with this thread. Really anything on WCW Saturday Night from the time Thunder debuted can be mentioned here. My favorite Darsow in WCW moment may have been an uber rare Worldwide exclusive angle in Summer of 99ish where he would get confused and come out as Krusher Khruschev when the announcer introduced him as Mr. Hole In One or would come out as The Blacktop Bully when he was introduced as Krusher Khruschev. Amused me to no end. The only tiny thing preventing it from becoming a perfect comedy angle is that he couldn't come out as The Repo Man or Smash.

Slightly off-topic, but why does Idris Elba only get major roles in really shitty movies? Stringer's got to get a new agent.

I understand how Edwin can have "Touch and Go" in his third tier but for some reason, it's become my favorite Cars song over the last 2-3 years. I think it comes from an acquaintance's frequent, gushing appraisal of Panorama (The Cars unsuccessful "dark and moody" album that "Touch and Go" came from). The bastard brainwashed me. Another underrated 80s top 40 power pop song I think deserves mention here is The Outfield's "Your Love". I'll do my tiers of The Cars later tonight.

Huge, huge fan of power pop. This is my thread. I own all of Fountains of Wayne's studio catalogue including their B-side album they released a couple years back. Great stuff, though I have to say the first two (the self titled and Utopia Parkway) are definitely my favorites. I saw them live last summer and they were pretty damn good. Their reputation as a mediocre live act sort of surprises me. I recently acquired Graham Parker's Squeezing Out Sparks+Sparks Live and Nick Lowe's Jesus of Cool and those both qualify as power pop classics in my book. Though the latter may be too ecclectic to simply be pigeonholed as a power pop album. I think you'd rather like the former, Czech. It's almost like Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band decided to jam with The Cars. And Jesse's Girl is almost up there with the first tier of The Cars greatest hits IMO.

Chris Kattan still owes me $3 for the time I rented Corky Romano. -
Oh lord! That last one is tremendous, I don't think I've seen it before. He looks like a henchmen in every bad 80s action movie.

There are like a dozen documentaries on Westboro Baptist Church, you might have seen a different one.

I got a bag of the new Honey Dijon Cape Cod potato chips. A pretty solid chip but I think the two originals (plain and Sea Salt and Vinegar) are the two best kind of Cape Cod chips. I also really like the Aged Cheddar and Jalepeno kind. They also had a new Ranch kind that I might try later.

Laz's comment was almost dumb enough for me to warrant bumping The Dumbest Comments of The Day thread. Almost. Edit: Never noticed it but the David Koresh-Randy Newman resemblence is damn near uncanny. While Koresh was probably charismatic, I doubt he produced anything as good as "Sail Away"

Behind The Match is the newest weekly thread for the WWE folder. In it, we'll take a look back at a recent match and discuss our thoughts on the match itself, the feud leading up to the match, and all those juicy behind the scenes tidbit we all love. Our first edition will be dedicated to In August 2005, Shawn Michaels and Hulk Hogan wrestled each other for the first time ever. IIRC, they hadn't even been on opposite side of the rings for a tag match before this. The storyline leading up to this match was incredibly controversial with HBK evoking The Montreal Screwjob...again. As the days winded down to SummerSlam '05, the IWC wondered which one would come top in a battle of two of the biggest egos in the wrestling business. The match itself was controversial with Shawn Michaels wildly overselling throughout much of it. A few questions to consider 1. Do you think WWE properly handled the storyline for this match? 2. Do you think Shawn Michaels' overselling helped or hindered the match? 3. Has this match affected the way you look at either Hogan or Michaels as workers or as people? 4. What impact, if any, do you think this match has had on their legacies? 5. Will we see another match between two wrestlers of this caliber (popularity wise) again? Have we seen one already, perhaps?

I stand corrected. I wasn't taking the non Jewish victims into account for some reason. Forgive me gypsys, homosexuals, and communists and others I've forgotten.

Oh, don't say that. Hitler was MUCH better than Phelps. He actually HELPED the people he ruled over... With an exception or six million...

Click was terrible. I'm still befuddled at the amount of people I've met who enjoyed it. It was one half watered down Adam Sandler comedy and one half overly maudlin Frank Capra homage. I will say that the latter was done better than the former but that's not saying much. -
And in the Sweet 16. I've never understood why me, King, and KOAB never formed some sort of half-assed alliance. We could call ourselves "Three Kings" and have matching sigs!

The Quebecers were The Amazing French Canadians in WCW and they were managed by Colonial Robert Parker. They weren't total jobbers but they were only around for a couple of months. All I can remember from their run is some sort of feud with Harlem Heat and the fact that they were Arn Anderson's opponents in his last match. But Jacques did get a house show win over Hogan during that time so it wasn't a complete loss. I think if they unified the tag team titles, it might have a shot at being decent again. As it stands now, there aren't enough good tag teams for two divisions
