  1. Over at GameSpy this week, they're making a list of the 25 most overrated games of all time. It's a very interesting read, even if I don't agree with all of them. They have the bottom 20 already done, and the top 5 will be named tomorrow. Here's the list so far: 25) Neverwinter Nights 24) Super Mario Sunshine 23) Battle Arena Toshinden 22) Star Trek: Starfleet Command series 21) Morrowind 20) Impossible Creatures 19) Battlecruiser: 3000AD 18) American McGee's Alice 17) The Getaway 16) Mortal Kombat 15) Dungeon Siege 14) Dead or Alive 3 13) Battletoads 12) Unreal II: The Awakening 11) Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor 10) Halo: Combat Evolved 9) Donkey Kong Country 8) Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness 7) Final Fantasy VII 6) Blinx: The Time Sweeper LINK: http://www.gamespy.com/articles/september0...ted/index.shtml Thoughts? 5. Today is September 13, 2003. It was exactly ten years ago today that Acclaim released Mortal Kombat for the Super NES, Genesis, Game Boy, and Game Gear. Now, some of you may not understand why this is such a big deal, but if you were playing games ten years ago, you remember the impact that this game had on the industry. Sure, it was big in the arcades, but it absolutely exploded when it reached the home consoles. Arguably, this game is what led the game industry towards it's current obsession with "mature" games. Also, it marked it significant milestone in the marketing of games. Mortal Kombat was the first game (that I can remember) where the company actually marketed its launch as an event. I mean, creating hype around its release date in the same way they do for new movie and album releases. Few can forget the incessant hype for "Mortal Monday, September 13, 1993". Nowadays, this is a common practice, but in 1993, it was unheard of. Personally, I remember seeing the ad for Mortal Kombat for the first time in WWF magazine and not caring because I didn't have any of the systems that it was being released for, plus i had no idea what Mortal Kombat was (I was only eight at the time). About two months after the game was released, I actually played it for the first time (the Genesis version). I thought it was the coolest thing I had ever seen. My brother and I got an SNES for Christmas that year, however, and I actually liked the SNES version better than the Genesis MK, unlike just about everyone else in the world. When I was in third grade, it seemed that all anybody ever talked about was Mortal Kombat. Of course, we can't forget about all the hype and controversy in the media over the game's violent content (which is nothing compared to some of today's games) but I was always unwavering in my support of Mortal Kombat. I'm not even a really hardcore MK fan, but the game brings back so many childhood memories that I couldn't help but make this post. Anyone else have memories of "Mortal Monday" and the subsequent national obsession with the game? By the way, it was also ten years ago today that the Quebecers defeated the Steiners to win their first WWF tag team championship. Plus, in other video game news, it was eighteen years ago that Nintendo unleashed Super Mario Bros. in Japan (it came over to the U.S. the next month).
  6. Yeah, I just got it and it's awesome. When I first saw the tracklist, I was a little disappointed that "Don't Ever Stop The Noise" wasn't on it, but I guess I was wrong. Also, "Long Live The Party" is a reworking of the rare b-side "Dance Party", which is pretty cool. Overall, I don't think I like this album quite as much as "I Get Wet", but I'm still very happy with it, even if I did have to pay $15 for it (there's only one music store near my college, so I had no other choice).

While I was looking around the All Music Guide, i found an entry for Wrestlemania: The Album, the old collection of WWF-related songs from 1993, and in the credits section of the entry it listed American Idol's Simon Cowell as a producer and executive producer. Here's the link if you don't believe it: http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&u...l=Aiku36j5771e0 Now sometimes the AMG is wrong, and I would think that if this was true that it would have come out already. But if it is true, I'm shocked that the man who tells so many people that they are horrible singers took part in an album featuring songs by Jim Duggan and the Big Boss Man.
  8. Hey.........If he actually got played on MTV, it would be a good career boost.
  9. Supposedly, 2004 is on the way for PS2 and Xbox, although there hasn't really been any news on it. Since (to the best of my knowledge) it hasn't even been seen yet, I wouldn't expect it in the very near future, although it should be coming sooner than later.
  10. OK, at mtv.com, they have this thing called "Viewers Pick Video". You get to vote for one of three videos, and the one which wins will be added to MTV's on-air playlist. This week, one of the choices is Andrew W.K.'s new video "Never Let Down". I know that there are some AWK fans on this board, and since he almost never gets played on MTV (I saw the video for "Party Hard" exactly once, and that was the only time I ever saw one of his videos get played), I think this could be a really good chance to help him get get some big exposure. Here's the link: http://www.mtv.com/music/viewers_pick/ You can vote as many times as you want. Please, help get AWK on MTV!
  11. I have the one for November Rain. It just shows the video and a documentary of the shooting process. You get a lot of behind-the-scenes footage and Axl talks a little bit about the meaning of the song. I haven't seen Don't Cry, but I'd assume it's the same thing.
  12. While we're on the subject, is there any place where I could find a copy of the Jannetty-Michaels match from 5/17/93 (where Jannetty wins the IC title)? I think WWF released it on a home video once, but I'm not sure.
