E3 cancelled for next year... AND BEYOND!
AndrewTS replied to Open the Muggy Gate's topic in Video Games
And the gaming press doesn't need any help doing that, thank you. I don't see how charging for the public is going to offset the costs. The convention owners themselves are going to get most of the dough (not even counting the overpriced concession stands' profits), not the developers. Even with x% of the gate, that's hardly going to be a drop in the bucket compared to the "double digit millions" that some companies supposedly are spending. Plus you're talking higher security costs, among other things. EDIT: 1up.com - -
Those Mac vs. PC commercials are so damn annoying, mainly because of lies and bullshit. And iMacs have been pieces of shit ever since the G5 was released.

E3 cancelled for next year... AND BEYOND!
AndrewTS replied to Open the Muggy Gate's topic in Video Games
I've read the same story on other sites, and this is really just sensationist drivel. *Expected to announce!* OMG! Based on what?! I love the disparate explanations/guesses here, but it seems Gamespot has the most likely scenario (next year's E3 will be smaller). There is no clear explanation either for the "E3 is cancelled!", just (according to the other sites I've read on this) that "major publishers" are calling for an *examination of costs*. Who? We've only heard EA. Oh noes, EA *might* be pulling out of E3!!! If EA, Capcom, Konami, Ubi, Midway, Squaresoft, Sega, Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft, etc. actually pull out, okay--it's as good as dead. But it hasn't happened yet; not even close. And E3 doesn't need to be more bloated with non-press people. -

Yeah, we know; you posted a topic on that, Inu Y... It's a believable slip-up since we're looking at multi-console titles. This pretty much narrows our expected window tho. I think Wii will be available with a strong initial lineup by early November. Nintendo could steal a lot of Sony's thunder if they pull off a strong release before PS3 hits. Smash Bros is "launch window" tho, so we're looking *possibly* 2006 but I wouldn't bet on it. -

Something I found on destructoid.com. Can't verify the truthfulness of it...but... However, I've seen BestBuy themselves still plugging an April release on Twilight Princess as late as March of this year, so go fig. The link still works. -
Renegade should enjoy this: http://www.destructoid.com/megadriver-braz...to-a-metal-band I actually ran across MP3s of this band earlier--but my favorite is their remix of Geese's theme from Fatal Fury. Brazil is incredibly into Sega Genesis, for what it's worth. TechToy still releases and sells Genesis games over there, and there's actually homebrew software being put out for them I've heard. BTW, that site (destructoid.com) has quite a wide variety of weird/funny gaming-related features, even if a lot of them are links to other sites. It's like my favorite new site of the weekend.

The first game is very very good--essentially a more polished No Mercy with rappers standing in for WWE wrestlers. Minor gripes I have are that the 1 player "created" characters (as in, you pick from a few pre-made models and soup up their stats throughout the game) break the game and there's not a good create mode where you decide your move sets. Plus the in-game characters aren't modeled on existing wrestlers move-wise, and cannot be edited. The 2nd game is not a wrestling game as much as it is a fighter with a large emphasis on grappling. I hate it but some friends i know love it.

Blu-Ray isn't doing so hot for its launch: http://www.wii60.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3466 Interesting read, although there's a lot of bias in the comments for obvious reasons.

After playing Super DBZ I rented Budokai Tenkaichi. Big mistake. Or at least, I really hate it. I think the love for it comes from the bajillion characters...mostly ones you have to unlock. And to unlock them, you go through the fun-fun-fun Z battle! Relive fights such as loser 1 vs. loser 2 and vice-versa as they train for their deaths to the Saiyans! Losers 1-3 vs. Saibamen! Or practice your skills at RUNNING AWAY FROM THE ENEMY 20 TIMES MORE POWERFUL THAN YOU! And virtually every character plays exactly the same, just with different special skills, which you hit a couple buttons for and then watch them come out. Fighting strategy doesn't get much more complex than "hide behind rock while charging up ki."

I almost like Navi after watching the "The Real Legend" flash cartoons on newgrounds (there's 2 parts). Granted, Link is a total idiot there (for comic effect) and the portrayal of Navi makes it blatantly obvious the creator was channeling Sprite just a little from the SMBSS cartoons, but it's entertaining if nothing else. EB/Gamestop currently has a guestimate on their release chart of 11/01 for GC Twilight Princess, which would be the same as the Wii. That's a pretty safe bet, since the October/November window is the very latest date we'll be seeing the Wii which we know is supposed to be the same time as Twiilight. -
Remember the SvC Chaos quote generator? http://objection.4camp.net/ Go nuts.

too bad Konami still isn't bringing over the psp Suikodens. all you people with PSPs (yes, you Anya) need to buy Valkyrie Profile Lenneth and encourage them to do so. I want a way to play PSP games on a TV without buying a PSP.

For Gamecube "disc read errors" (it refuses to read a relatively scratch-free disc, and does it with plenty of discs), try the Lens Calibration Guide on this page: http://www.gamefaqs.com/console/gamecube/game/915781.html Although if you're in warranty (1 year standard on the Gamecube) then obviously check with Nintendo first.
