Good, cheap PS2 games? VF4 is an excellent way to go. Evo contains a few extra features, but it also is missing some features from regular VF4. I think Anya has both and could elaborate a bit more. Although she'll also say "Get Tekken 5, it's better" as well. BTW, check pawn shops. I scored God of War for 15 bucks from one. One of these days I'm going to play it again, but it's massively overated IMO. The entire Ratchet and Clank series is ace. You could get 1 for 8 bucks or less. Going Commando is even better. Up Your Arsenal is harder and more combat-based than the other two, though. War of the Monsters is a cool King of the Monsters style game...it's usually about 25 bucks in stores, but hit pawn shops, try Sears (got it for 10 bucks there recently), and half.com and you could get it for less. If you like shooters, Castle Shikagami 2 is a well-spent 10 dollar game. Plus the translation is hilarious, too. Get a Katamari game. Believe the hype. Xenosaga? It's your money I guess, but I wouldn't recommend it. Get Kingdom Hearts, or just wait for Kingdom Hearts 2. You want gimmicks, a unique battle system, a bizaare story, and maybe on top of that some top-notch voice acting? There ya go. KH2 will be even better. Phantom Brave is a good introduction to Nippon Ichi games, although if you like it, keep in mind their rarer/more expensive games are better. DQVIII is really good, but probably a bit too derivative and old-school for what you're shooting for. DDS and any other MegaTen game that made it Stateside is worth a go. If you like wrestling games, Rumble Roses can be picked up for about 15 bucks, and it plays better than most of the WWE games. Yukes went with an awful new stat system from HCTP on that continues to plague and unbalance the gameplay. And for every improvement they make, they screw up something else. Rumble Roses is very arcadey, and lacks play modes, but is still a quality title. Onimusha 3: Onimusha 1 and 2 were like Resident Evil with swords. This is an action title with prerendered backdrops, OTOH. Two characters, cool story and mood, great gameplay, and dirt cheap. It's like 10 bucks these days and is highly underrated. Klonoa 2: A great platformer even if it is very old-school. My first PS2 game. Ape Escape 2: Not as long perhaps as the original game, but still an excellent, hellafun title that actually makes use of the dual analogs. Hard to find, but when you do find it, you can nab it for under 20 easily.

The animation was extremely poor. Sprites for existing characters I could swear had animation hacked out. The bosses sucked. Looked like crap. Sounded like crap. Weapons were pretty crap too. Controls seemed more sluggish than the other games. The translation was either done on a weekend by a 1st semester class of Japanese students learning English, or it was written from scratch by the Mega Man Robot Naming Committee. Reploids can either be rescued the first time you find them...or if the Nightmares get to them, they become EVIL ROBOT ZOMBIES YOU HAVE NO CHOICE BUT TO KILL! You can miss some parts and then be unable to retrieve them on the same game. I'll take X3 over it anyday.

Battle and Chase being 'meh' is kind of expected. It's just the novelty of having it there. Mega Man Soccer isn't very good at all, but plenty of people want that. X6 is laziness all around and I don't plan on even touching it if I can help it. Likely they'll want you to play it to unlock something, though.

Pretty much everyone I know who played X-7 would disagree with you there--but I didn't play it, so no comment. X-8 I think is fun. Does it being easy make it a bad game? That's a poor argument. However, X6 started a huge downslide of quality. X5 had a few development shortcuts taken on it, and not all of the innovations worked well, but I really liked it and it was harder/more fun overall than X4, IMO. The best part about the collection is that x2 and x3 alone would each cost 2-3 times the amount of the entire MMXC.

DQVIII is good, new Saga is supposed to be crap on a cracker. And I haven't bothered playing the FFXII demo that I had gotten when I rented DQVIII.

Considering I go to work on a road that morons think is a highway even though it is two lanes, is surrounded by woods half the way, the speed limit is 45, its winter and you never know where the ice is, and the fact that a deer jumped out last month, caused me to lose control of my car, crash into another car, and injure the driver (and said asshole driver is okay now but is suing) I say fuck that noise. Keep in mind I live in PA, which leads the nation in car accidents related to deer, though. I get tailgated nearly 9/10 times I drive on that road, and I want to kick those fuckers in the head.
