Nothing like reliving one of the ugliest wars in history. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> There was a guy that was presumably a Viet vet hobbling into a Gamestop I was also at today, yelling about a "lazy gook" sitting on the curb. He was also wondering when *some war game coming out I don't care about* is due out.

Blame Matt for not posting when he found out. At least I tried whenever I found out. You have to register to find out about the good stuff. I don't usually post the CAG news; that's usually Matt/Downhome's territory. You guys been slacking off lately!

There's Dragon Warrior I & II in a black GB/GBC cart, plus a stand alone GBC DW3, but that's about it at this time.

"The referee can't hear you..." Finally someone said it.

It's a little hard to directly compare them. SMB3 was a game that redefined platformer games in its time. Mario 64 had less to do with the old Mario formula as it did providing tons of fun tasks to complete in lieu of star-collecting. While, when you break it down, it was a collect-a-thon, the actual tasks to be completed were damn fun. It was more Mario against the environments, gravity, and other external dangers than it was Mario against Bowser's baddies. The freedom and exploration provided made the game.

Power Move is basically a stripped-down Touken Retsuden, which was originally develoepd by Yukes. Pretty decent game you can find for about 99 cents today. Crash's rep kind of has been shot by the mediocre sequels Vivendi Universal has been putting out--ditto for Spyro. Still, back in the day I couldn't help but think "this is fun and all...but it isn't Mario 64."

Landstalker remake in the works for PSP.

Not sure. I loved the first Tobal, myself, but I think I was one of the few that did. I think the graphic style was amazingly well done and holds up ok, it had gameplay that dared to be different, and was a pretty cool VF clone for the time. Is there a relatively painless way to play PS1 imports on a US PS2? Ergheiz (sic) sucked though.

The game falls under my "haven't played in a long time but remember liking" category. I don't remember how good the gameplay was, but I liked the premise. A 3D fighting game with Star Wars characters. How badly could they have screwed it up? WCW vs. The World wasn't too bad. It holds up a lot better than most of the other PSX wrestling games I used to own. I actually bought WWF In Your House and WCW Nitro when they were released. They're much more painful to play. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I remember playing the demo back before MoTK came out...and I couldn't help but think how bad it looked and how uninteresting it played. Reviews for the final game indicated not much had changed. After VPW2 or even Revenge, WCW vs. the World doesn't hold much appeal. The roster may be the best next to VPW64, but there are far too few moves, most of the finishers are wrong, and the spirit system is better tuned in the later games. A few exclusive wrestlers and Create a Belt isn't enough. It's just about the only old PS1 3D wrestling game that's still playable these days. I still play the heck out Wrestlemania: The Arcade Game, though. It was one the first PS1 games I ever had. IYH was quite the disappointment, though. Oh, and IIRC, the Playstation was the name of the original Sony/Nintendo platform that was to be created, but when it fell through the new Sony stand-alone project was to be the Playstation X, and later it just became Playstation, since the X wouldn't make much sense externally.

Yeah, just a general comment. Also, as I mentioned before, one of the benefits to the PS2 slim is that it's easier to insert that tray than it is to remove the casing to an older PS2 model.

Actually, word is that they reprinted them along with Disgaea. "Now you can own Rhapsody! See the work of Nippon Ichi back when they totally sucked!" "Star Wars: Masters of Teras Kasi" It didn't hold up well when it was released, IMO. WCW vs. the World is pretty painful to play now. Great start, and I remember playing the heck out of it way back when it first came out, though. Jumpling Flash holds up very well. Still incredibly fun, if graphically simple. The problem with trying to play old PS1 games isn't necessary the graphics themselves, or even the occasional annoyance of pop-up--but framerates. It's a minor adjustment to hop from GGX2 to SSF2T. However, when you're used to 60 fps #D, going back to 30 can be a bit hard to take. Anything less? Headache city.

...except in Iraq.

Yeah, they're good. Remember that you need to buy flip tops and Magic Swap discs to actually play the games, though. Buy the highest version Swap Discs you can.

That explains it. They had Persona 2 as well. So are there STILL PS1 games being made (professionally)? Or just occasional re-releases (like the Squeenix tagged GH versions of Xenogears and FF Anthology/Chronicles)? And of all the rare RPGs that could be getting rereleases, why RHAPSODY? For those not familiar with it, it's a...well...musical RPG. Bad story, bad balance, bad gameplay, and terrible music. X-Play ripped on it when they were covering games with the worst musical performances in video games.

The topic of games came up, and she felt she was "kind of weird" for being a gamer. She mostly likes RPGs, which I said isn't really that weird...what would be weird if she was into MK or something. Then she said she was.

Yeah, it's pretty much her outfit circa-Hush, but with bigger ears and bigger goggles. I haven't seen any character designs for The Batman's version of Poison Ivy, if they're planning to use her. The green-skinned one usually clothed with vines and leaves kind of has the perfect mix of creepy and sexy. I'm surprised TB hasn't redone her as a witch with branch-like limbs. TB's Penguin looks surprisingly normal. The comics have had way-creepier looking versions, and certainly Returns' version is kind of in there too.

The friend I was with did more talking with her than I did, because he's the big anime geek and she was a bit bigger into that. Incidentally, she was cute.

Lots of people say SNES is the best, but only a small amount of titles for it really stand out as classics today. Most of the games that defined PS1 back in the day have also aged disgracefully (try playing Tomb Raider today, even worse, Toshinden) as well. However, the sheer number of A+ titles that have managed to hold up well give the PS1 the advantage. And PS1 usually had something that met or exceeded the SNES counterparts. Super Metroid? While not quite as good in MY opinion, many would say SotN topped it. Chrono Trigger? Cross isn't as good, IMO, but it's okay. The sheer number of good RPGs on PS1 vs. the small number that made it Stateside for SNES make it sort of a moot point. Ditto for FFIII. PS1 never had a Zelda game, though, but there were a handful of clones for it, probably the best being Alundra. PS1 absolutely smokes SNES in the fighting game department, without a doubt. It's really not a fair comparison, because most genres today are spurred forward by folks who, while very talented, are standing atop the shoulders of creative giants who came before them. Plus, with PS1's debut gaming exploded into the mainstream. There was more opportunity for companies. More risks could be taken. Not everything needed to be carefully marked to appear as mainstream as possible. Companies like Atlus could import quirky RPGs with knowledge that there was a large audience for their releases. On a related note, a Gamestop I was at out of town today had not one, but two new-ish copies of Rhapsody for the PS1. 40 bucks a pop. I didn't buy it, but have you begun to collect crappy RPGs, by any chance, Anya? Today I purchased a used Jumping Flash! to help celebrate the belated anniversary. By the time I had gotten a PS1, the game was quite old and I picked up the sequel, and played the heck out of the JF! demo that had been included with my first PS1.

There's at least a third female MK fan, Anya. Met her at a comic shop out of town. Hates Lui Kang, enjoys Kung Lao a lot. Thought the TNT series was cheesy fun. We quoted off some lines from Annihilation and laughed our asses off.

I finally scored a BRAND NEW copy of Spikeout for X-Box. Now I just need the system to play it on.

So yeah, MS is apparently admitting they have no clue how to get 100%...or 90%...or anywhere close BC working for the 360. So make your choices wisely. http://www.1up.com/do/feature?cId=3143553 My choices: A- GGX2 Reload Half Life 2 Metal Arms: Glitch in the System * Outrun 2 Sid Meier's Pirates! B- Advent Rising Jet Set Radio Future Panzer Dragoon Orta Phantom Dust Super Monkey Ball Deluxe (* Yeah, probably Shenmue 2 should be there, but wasn't really my bag and if 3 is true, then not a big deal because it should be the entire Shenmue story) No Spikeout, though, damnit.

I wonder what Vader himself thinks of the situation...if they're demanding that the site be transferred to "Leon White" he must know about it. So I think he probably is partially responsible, right? If WWe actually puts up a vader site, it will probably be something like wwevader dot com, and any Vader-related urls they scoop up will just end up linking to that site. I hope George Lucas sues WWe over this somehow.
