Actually, I take that back--when you remember all of the licensed games we've been getting lately, they're still quite common today. Rise of Sin Tzu, the new Fan 4 game (damn if that commercial isn't insulting my intelligence), State of Emergency (I forgot about it since I didn't play it), and others. I don't think I'd add the hack n' slashers, though. Not sure how similar they really are. But yeah, it seems like the most of the genre's sum total of achievements in 3D have been "add the ability to upgrade." Although I liked the Dynamite games' (Die Hard Arcade/Dynamite Cop) cinematic approach, multiple paths, interactivity, VF-style controls, and button-prompt sequences. I hear lots of people diss the games, but I don't know why. There's no less than 5 new beat 'em ups in the works (The Warriors, MK Shaolin Monks, Beat Down: Fists of Vengeance, Final Fight: Street Wise, the unnamed game that the Alien Hominid people are doing), so it'll be interesting to see how the hell they make them worth playing today. I fear it may come at the expense of making them quick and accessible, though.

Sonic Gems Collection: FEATURING SONIC CD!!!!
AndrewTS replied to ChrisMWaters's topic in Video Games
I don't have room for a console that has about 3 games I'd still want to play, though. Both Lunars being better on PS1 really knocks the SCD's lineup for a loop. There are still gems out there, but to actually get a hold of them you need to camp out on Ebay and get really lucky. Besides Sonic, which games do you have that are worth it, BTW? You should be ashamed of using that sort of language around here, though. We discuss things like civil adults here. We're not animals like you CE people. 1up is one of the best, although they're still far from perfect. However, the feedback forums are populated with some of the biggest idiots this side of IMDb. -
Mutant League was brought up when EA locked down NFL exclusively--EA owns the series, so we'd likely only see if they felt like making a distinctly arcade-style/violent football game and didn't think it would hurt Madden's sales. The company/game name escapes me, but there's a company making a football game that'll be filled with bikini models and fluff video footage. That's about as close to an "alternative" as well get for now, I guess.

"I seem to recall hearing about Ed O'Neil being in a serious dramatic role that failed miserably because when he was first seen on screen the audience reaction was to laugh at Al Bundy." The Dragnet revival? Katie Holmes in Batman Begins is just Joey with a gun. I don't know if it was her acting (which I think it was), or her looking too damn young, but she really looked out of place. The Harry Potter kid is probably going to have a hard time getting different roles.

I didn't know 3D beat 'em ups were common enough for there to be a "generic" one. Although I know people probably really want one that's reminiscent of River City Ransom in 3D. It's good to see the new DS Super Mario Bros. games. A new Mario *platformer?* Why, it's just crazy enough to sell! The image worked, BTW.

Doonesbury used to, but now it seems like 7/8 of the strips are directly or indirectly about the Bush admin. I checked the official side to see some of the recent strips--there were literally 3 in a row directed at the Cheney "last throes" blurb. Meanwhile, there's a scrolling banner above with anti-Bush admin quotes. Trudeau only needs to squeeze 7 jokes out of a week, and has trouble doing that. Daily Show has 22 minutes to fill 5 times a week, and seems to have little trouble.

"5 3 Batman Begins WB $5,620,000" Still chugging along admirably. No big surprise for #1, but Wedding Crashers doing so well seems surprising. I guess the slump is really over.

Seph sucks. Madonna probably would think he's cool. And if you get that, then you're probably a geek too. I've seen positive reviews but never played it. All I know is that it has Bruce Willis in it. Too. Much. Scanning. Otherwise, I love it. Amusing. The picture made me expect a fart joke. Pist: I found a MB post about Chakan/BO2--seemed like mostly just similar character designs. I don't see any smoking gun concerning the game engine or design. Still, kind of cool. Huge twists in development like that are interesting. I've missed out on the entire Legacy of Kain series except waaay back when I rented the original PS1 game. Any good? I see a bunch of them used dirt cheap but I don't know which ones are worth trying.
