It's out now. I played it up at EB. Anyway, some impressions from playing a half-hour of it against random peeps: Breakers are...not really combo breakers, at least not that I've seen. It's more of a parry/Alpha counter, just activated with the right timing and a button press. The game feels surprisingly sluggish. Sure, it can pick up the pace if you know what you're doing, but basic attacks seem to come out a bit slow for my taste, and it lacks the speed and smoothness you'd expect from something like a Soul Calibur. Scorpion seems a mite too strong... I liked Tae Kwon Do guy. Nice to see a good bit of fighting styles in the game. Stage fatalities can be very satisfying. Stage fatalities DURING THE MATCH ITSELF can be flat out annoying. Okay, in practice it is very similar to the "ring outs" of older 3D fighters, but if round 1 ends with some one falling off a mountain and landing on a large spike which impales him through the torso, there will be no round 2s. Plus, having the ground crumble away from you before that happens really sucks. The music kind of lays there and dies. It sounds "MKish" and is completely unmemorable and indistinct all the time time. The smacks and screams are all good, though. Seeing half of the fighters apparently fart back up to their feet is messed up. Ying/Yang Island is very creative--the island flashes in between a warm summer day with upbeat music to a dark and stormy scene with ominous music playing--randomly, with no slowdown or anything. Plus, knocking your opponent into a tree causes a coconut to fall on his head. The stage fatality of that one is decent--what I assume is a pirahna attack. However, you can't see the pirahna, and it would have looked cooler if a shark did the job. Overall, I feel its an average game that relies more on flash and gimmickry than it should. So it lives up to the MK name with ease, and I guess that's all that anyone is expecting.

CBS (I believe that's who it was) thinks so--plugging said debate with footage from the old 60's Adam West show with Burt Ward. In practically the same breath they show a Letterman clip mocking Bush, with an anchorman chuckling and adding that probably a lot of drinking games took place that night.

It isn't even so much the people who bought the system at launch as it was the folks paying anywhere from $500 - $1000 for something that would have more units produced in a few months. From what I gathered, a lot of those folks were regular middle-class folks who *had* to have it. You yourself linked it to the phenomenon of pecuniary emulation. Hey, fools and their money...idiots and their money; whatever term works for you. Even you admit that it's a bit irrational. Me?! Elitist?! NOOOOO!!! I've had my PS2 for 3 years now and it is still going strong. I unplug all my systems when I'm not using it. When I didn't with my PS1, I'd heard that was related to the problems I'd had since it still is taking in electricity. Complete bull? Perhaps, but after a lens cleaning all the problems I had with playing DVDs vanished, and my system is still working perfectly. It still pulls double duty. There's no doubt that the launch systems were POS, though.

Kane has been a joke for two years. I find it hard to believe he could really be that concerned about the stupid crap they have him do if he's put up with everything he has. I believe Kane's a "company man" who will do just about anything asked of him. Is this current angle ANY worse than the crap he's done in the past? If it's merely the end of his contract and he's sick of the locker room scene or the booking, a change to SD could have possibly been discussed. However, I've not heard anything about "retiring" or "heading to such-and-such."

Okay, Flik--very simple question here: battle system--do you know the meat and potatoes of it? Plus, has WD gotten over their pop-culture,-poop-and-fart joke phase, or can we expect another poor translation on this one? I somewhat understand with the Lunars--they just updated the old text from the SCD versions, but I assume this would mostly be a new translation.

Okay--could you clarify about ethernet cards? They're internal instead of external, correct? Also, where would they be installed--same place as my dial up modem is now, or close to it? The modem I have now is listed as a "US Robotics 56k PCI Fax," so that probably is it. It's easy to auto-detect and doesn't require additional drivers? I'm guessing the ethernets replace your dial up modem and actually go the same place then, hm? I'm kind of a cheapskate, but wireless sounds better than drilling holes in the floor for cords. Would they have to come in a set or be the same brand of router I get, or will they be compatible with pretty much any router/cable modem? They're coming over tomorrow, so I'm going to try to get what I need. A co-worker at my mother's workplace supposedly has a router and may just give it to us (friend of the family, my mother works with her, so I'm not all that worried), however I'll call to find out if it is wireless or not. EDIT: called her up--she's at work now, so she isn't sure if it is a wireless router or not. I'll have to wait until she gets it before picking up any ethernet cards, I guess. Thanks a lot, guys. Oh--for security, would it be possible to simply turn off the connection when I'm not using the modem, rather than leaving it on all the time?

Variety is the spice of life, eh Anya? Seems weird to me, because they should have been able to have done it. It reminds me of the Phantasy Star trilogy coming out to PS2. Since all three of the first games are one the disc, I assume they're "enhanced." However, I wonder why they didn't do IV. Either they're not going to do it, planning to maybe make it a separate (GBA) release, or giving it a 3D makeover so they can justify the stand-alone cost. The PhanStars Collection for GBA are pretty much straight ports, so I hope they're at least enhanced.
