    The PlayStation 3

Bold predictions: It will pPlay PS1 and PS2 games, DVDs, laser discs, MP3s, and lots of other crap. The first run of systems will self-destruct after the factory warranties expire.

    Mick Foley Interview

I'm shocked, SHOCKED that Foley decided to kiss Vince's ass again. His reply to the Honky complaint...well, apparently none. He doesn't conclusively say anything.

How is the PS2 controller too small? I can practically hold those big-ass Saturn/Sega CD boxes by the long ends without dropping it and I still find the bulk of the X-Box controller uncomfortable. Granted, I'm very much used to the PS2 controller, but the Dreamcast controller works well for me.
  4. Oh yeah--I didn't even realize Genndy was working on it. Obviously his work--Samurai Jack, Powerpuff Girls--are HEAVILY inspired by anime. They even did a Shonen Knife music video for PPG. However, if that's the only guy, there's still cause for worry. Plus I haven't heard of him being involved in anything live action before. Yeah, I've known about it for quite a while. It's unlicensed, BTW. It's also on badmovies.org. By all accounts, it sucks. Gunsmith Cats is pretty good, and shouldn't be too hard to translate to an American movie without sacrifices. It even takes place in Chicago and seems to mimic an American TV show quite well. My decision to see a movie is usually based on checking out various reviews. I'll see a high-quality or gloriously bad movie if it interests me (I'll be seeing CINO, aka Catwoman In Name Only, for instance), just not a boring piece of tripe. So yeah, I'll probably see it, but I want it to actually be good.

Fahrenheit 9/11 Review by FOX NEWS

That's because almost all the time celebs have no idea what the hell they're talking about. Plus, they present their opinions, with rarely even rhetoric to back it up, and then expect anyone who likes to see them on TV/in movies to in turn accept that opinion and vote that way. Also, many of the celebs hold rather extreme opinions about it, and seem to do it more as a cry for attention than anything else. As for the review, from Fox News of all places, has Moore toned things down and presented a (for him) mostly somewhat fair viewpoint?

    New WWE Match Concepts

How would anyone see the match then? Only the participants would. a) The mirrors where you can see through one side but the reflection is on the other. b) The REFER-EYE!! How about: Triangle Match, because Triple Threat is ghey.

    Super Mario Brothers 1

Question: Bowser has about 7 or 8 kids. Who the hell is the mother for all these little SOBs? I'd guess some Kooba hussies at random, but I think Bowser's a different species (Alligator Snapping Turtle), so I don't know about that. Then again, thinking about the reproductive systems of Birdo and Yoshi really hurts my head, so maybe I shouldn't even ask.
  8. Perhaps. Has there been an animated series yet that turned out to be its equal in a live action movie? *remembers that I really liked the live action Guyer movie* Strictly in movie form? None come to mind but the Tick animated and live action series were both good, but the animated series was definitely superior. Complicating this is that we're talking about a Japanese anime series being translated into an American live action movie. That does not sound promising at all. Plus, it isn't even like the rumored DBZ live action movie--really, the source material is so screwed up to begin with, that it isn't a big deal if the movie really sucks. An American director, cast, writer, etc. probably is going to be clueless about the source material and won't "get" a lot of the Japanese influence on it. We'll probably just get an action-packed revamp of A.I. =P A live action Gunsmith Cats though would have a chance in hell of actually being decent. There are plenty of other very "Western" anime series that could conceivably done well. So the decision to do this one comes off as very odd to me.

    This will Show 'Em

"NEW YORK -- Instead of road trips, beach vacations and barbecues, thousands of anti-Bush demonstrators are headed to summer school to learn how to stage successful sit-ins and what to do if pepper spray burns their eyes." Wow, I thought the Republicans were supposed to be the boring ones? Even if I was vehemently anti-Bush, I wouldn't waste my summer on that. I guess the aim is to try to get a lot of press prior to the election, though.

The OAO Showdown: Legends of Wrestling Thread!

None of the reviews were written by wrestling fans... the UK ones in particular are harsh on the business itself. Well, that certainly has some effect, but what were the gripes? U.K. magazines, except for maybe one Renegade likes, have generally been really shitty for well over a decade. They've treated Eidos like they were the greatest gaming company on earth in the UK gaming scene. =P

Eh? Where's you hear about that? If so, yeah, Jeff is definitely a moron.

    2001: A Space Odyssey

Yeah, I suppose you're right. Don't mind me - I woke up on the wrong side of bed today. Well, Wheat's book gives you probably the best look at Arthur C. Clarke's most likely interpretations, but the movie is hardly limited to them. Plus, the use of the visual medium (basically, almost all of 2001 is visual, which makes so many of its symbolism and subtext difficult to identify at first) expands it far beyond what can be done in a book.

    SAVED!

On 411, I noticed in Chasing Liberty, she IS playing a slut. Well, she's more of a wannabe slut exhibitionist, and there are very other obvious sexual perversions by other characters. Regardless, I guess neither you or I were familiar with her body of work. I guess I wasn't wrong about how her leg is draped across that dude's thigh didn't seem too innocent.

Doesnt the XBOX controller have the same amount of buttons as a PS2? PS2: L1, L2, R1, R2, Square, Circle, Triangle, X, L3 and R3. (Start and Select) X-Box: A, B, X, Y, L, R, White, Black, the Left and Right Thumbsticks, (Start, Back) So technically, yeah the amount of buttons is the same, but the PS2 controller is far better, because of the size, shape, simpler design, and it doesn't have two buttons placed as awkwardly as the Black and White ones.

    2001: A Space Odyssey

I agree--but this is a case where there's no "official" explanation. I've seen no less than five different theories about what the monoliths represent, for instance. While I don't need to have my hand held through most movies with symbolism, etc, once I've deduced on my own, it's fun to read up on it, see some things that I missed, and so on.

    Most anticipated game of 2004

Because, like with fighting games, American developers that can make a wrestling game worth a damn are extremely rare.
  19. Live action?! Totally lame. =/
  20. It's Playstation 2. It's almost five years old. We've already seen the best it can do. Time to move the series to X-Box or a next-gen system. Besides the clipping issues with hair (which in, what, 4 sequels they haven't fixed?!) I don't really have a problem with HCTP's graphics. In fact, I think that's the genuinely best thing about that game. In comparison, I think WMXIX and Raw (can't comment on Raw 2, haven't seen it) look like crap. It's clearly not a hardware limitation to me, although I wish they'd fix that crap with the hair. I know it can be fixed. I don't know if that's supposed to be sarcasm or not, but I was speaking about game companies in general. Commentary in the games have usually been stilted, annoying, repetitive, inappropriate, mis-cued, and often sounding just plain stupid. So even though they almost perfectly captured Michael Cole's commentary style at the time (), that isn't necessarily something I want in my game. While I know I can just turn it off if they do put it in, I'd rather they use the extra time to a) get the game out sooner or b) fix the other problems. It's a lot more difficult to put commentary in a wrestling game than a football, baseball, basketball, etc game, since everything happens so fast and we're used to one of the commentators throwing in wise-ass quips and observations.

I doubt the new Tao Feng will be as good as Tekken 2 though. Also, it isn't so much that sequels are a bad thing as it is that it seems like that's all that gets made these days--those and licensed games. A strong lineup that includes both original games and sequels I would have no problem with. That doesn't seem to be what we're getting, however. There's an extreme dearth of creativity these days in the gaming market. Well, that is in the US...and certainly on the PS2. Even The Usual Suspects aren't that creative. Sure, a new game every year or so typically makes small advances, but for me I feel like "meh--why bother? They'll make a new one pretty soon. If the new one sucks, the older one will be cheaper used. If it's much improved, well, the old one is obsolete." Well, then again, after Tekken Tag Tournament, I don't see why a new Tekken is essential. Maybe that's just me, though. Naturally, my beliefs aren't conducive to huge profits, but that isn't what I care about.

    Who likes Randy Orton now?

I don't really hate him now, because he's definitely improving as a worker and a bit on the mic, plus the sickening uber-push is winding down. However, I don't really want to see him wrestle much except in a tag match with the rest of Evolution. He's still too rest-holdy for my tastes. I think it's helpful that he tries to make a chinlock look painful...but it's still a chinlock. To me he's like Christian with weaker mic skills right now, basically.
  23. Commentary in a wrestling video game is sooo freakin' unnecessary, and no game has ever quite done it right, but they keep wasting time trying.

I did say "Psi-Ops" -=Mike ..."Advent Rising" looks cool, too My apologies. Since there are 9 billion games with "Ops" in the title, I thought it was the sequel to something.

50 Reasons Lord of the Rings Sucks

My faves: 16. The Asbestos Wizard. We all saw Gandalf fall into the molten core of Middle Earth after his battle with the firebeast thing in part 1. Well, I guess the Gandalf action figure must have sold well, because in the slap-together sequel Two Towers, Gandalf is back. Perhaps it was voodoo, a la the corpse in Weekend at Bernie's II (look closely and you'll notice LOTR steals several elements from the WAB films). 38. Realism, schmealism. Liv Tyler's immortal elf volunteers to give up her eternal life for a single romance with a human man. Could any man really be that well endowed? I find it unlikely. 44. The Shoeless Land. The Hobbits both 1) refuse to wear shoes and 2) run a livestock-based farming economy. Wouldn't they constantly be stepping in crap? Why doesn't the movie address this issue? 46. Casting, II. Why couldn't Gandalf have been played by Bruce Campbell?
