...and checking around several sites concludes, yeah, everyone is reporting it doesn't work. I guess I'm done buying VC games, as I'd be forced to update. For folks who already have firmware v.3, there's a minor update available now to prevent the locking up at the wii shop channel.

Downhome is, at least. -
Some folks on other boards think it doesn't feel as "scary" as SS2, which I've never played. I felt there were of spooky moments, though.

It will be. 360 and PC versions both ship 8/21, but PC demo won't be out until next month. Anyway, I played the demo, and it's pretty awesome! Visuals are terrific, control super-smooth, and the presentation/voice-acting top notch. The atmosphere is amazing, something I'd heard about vaguely in the previews but is hard to really explain unless you play it. My fave parts so far are hacking flying gunbots to fight for you, and blasting enemies standing in water with electricity and also nailing ones standing in the water nearby. Oh, Big Daddy too (don't want to spoil anything thing, so you can see for yourself). The abilities I've gotten so far (the electro bolt and incinerate), are a blast to use, enemies are damn quick but easily dispatched so far. Game feels great overall. I might have to get this one soon, if not on release. Damn $60 next gen pricing!

DOA was all over the internet the day it was released internationally, and hell I saw the whole thing on Google Video. Worst movie I've seen since Alone in the Dark. It got a US theater release later in like 5 theaters and came and went in about a weekend.

That's why you should always make sure an electronics product you bought is registered, and always keep the reciept. And I'm not sure how MS does it, but at work, yeah--if the ship date from the factory and purchase date are more than 90 days apart, and your DOP isn't in the system, we got to hastle people to fax in a copy of the proof of purchase. It's 3 years from the console purchase date, but if you never registered and don't have your proof of purchase, MS will go by the ship date I assure you.

Well, for other folks' references I'm curious if they were generous with the lube on that transaction.

English-speaking Indian folks seem to do that all the time, especially the older folks. And there are always people that have stuff break on them just outside warranty. If you happened to get a launch 360 that lasted 3 damn years, thank your lucky stars because it lasted well beyond what it ever should have. You might be able to fix it yourself at that point, or sell it/trade it to some one who could.

Game Genie, here. Made the game enjoyable, at least. It was still immensely more playable than Batman Forever, which was easier, but crap.

You sold the Wii and RE4 to PawnStop? You do realize the Wii is *still* routinely selling above retail price on Ebay, right? How much credit did you actually get? And I assume you traded Wii Sports, too.

All 360s have the 3 year RROD protection, so he has no worries until Nov of next year.

Many key members of the Castlevania Bloodlines team also worked on Contra: Hard Corps, Rocket Knight Adventures and the Sega CD port of Snatcher--basically all of Konami's quality Sega output right there. Contrary to popular belief, they aren't the pre-Treasure Treasure. Yaiman and Nami, the lead programmers for Treasure, were the main programmers on Contra 3 and Castlevania IV instead. Probably a little of column A and a little of column B. The two games were released quite a bit of time apart anyway. It was developed by Clockwork Tortoise and published by Sega. Brutally hard, but the fact that you had to have your shots charged to do any damage (not "hold a button" charge, but "wait for the bar to fill after so much time" charge), and you were being assaulted CONSTANTLY like a Contra game just made the game totally un-fun to me. The game had amazing special effects, though. The SNES game with the same title was made by Konami, and it rocked, even though it was hastily retitled from "Batman: The Animated Series" late and development, and thus Robin's barely in it.
-
By and large, Konami didn't seem to like the Genesis. When Konami made a Sega version of a game, it usually was pretty lame. Tournament Fighters sucked on Genesis compared to the SNES version, big time. SNES Sparkster was a much different and better game than Sparkster Genesis. Sunset Riders on SNES was much more faithful to arcade, while Genesis had bigger sprites and much stupider AI. There were a few folks who looked past the Genesis' limitations and worked well with its faster processor (see Contra Hard Corp), and certainly Treasure did (former Konami employees). However, it's basically a rule of thumb that when a Konami game came out on both systems, spring for the SNES one. Some people claim the Hyperstone enemy AI is better than TiT, but it doesn't seem that much like it to me.
-
Hyperstone Heist was pretty much table scraps for Genesis owners, because the system couldn't handle the special effects used in Turtles in Time.

The rumors (i.e. basically fact but MS have been clamming up) are that the new run of new HDMI 360s have the new heatsinks and identical motherboards to the recent Elites, but that the Falcon ones haven't shipped out. "Soon" for the Falcons, but it shouldn't really matter all that much, as the ones with the new heatsinks should be "fixed" for real.

Some folks on GAF are reporting that after the update you can't even use the Gamecube Action Replay for just the Action Replay, let alone the Freeloader. Can anyone confirm this?
-
That's Sony Europe, and I'd say they're trying too hard...to be...I dunno. all of the "This is Living" ads have been pretentious crap. Creepy Baby Doll beats all of them.
-
Which is being added in all 360s, BTW. Mainly because it's basically Elite motherboards.

No shit? I am totally out of the loop on the PS3. Well, specifically its region-free for PS3 games. PS2 and PS1 games are still locked to whatever region you bought the console in. http://www.gamespot.com/news/6146475.html
-
Yeah, see my response in the Wii thread about it. It doesn't work for PS2 and PS1 games or movies but it's still a cool feature. There are actually few Japanese publishers of note staying away from 360. They know that Japanese gamers aren't going to buy their games in huge numbers on 360, but they can do darn fine in the rest of the world. Plus, PS3 isn't exactly a huge sensation in Japan now, either. This should in no way be the case come 2008.
-
Yah there was a huge shitfest over that one little detail on the FPC board (it's honestly getting as bad as GameFAQs over there). Silly FPC--expecting accuracy and fact-checking from IGN.

It's just the GC one, for playing GC games. After all, now is the time to clamp down on people buying GC games from other regions and *gasp* playing them on GC. Also, Nintendo has been doing this kind of crap for years. They made later models of the SNES (I believe 1994 onward) incompatible with Game Genie, ditto with the N64 and the Gameshark I believe (I didn't see it documented anywhere, but several different ones just don't work as they should), and they released several versions of the GC while Datel kept pace with new Action Replays as well. The last Action Replay had a freeloader on board, too. None of those devices let you play copied games (Freeloader doesn't either, at least not by itself), either, but Nintendo has a problem with them for some reason. They sued Galoob because they claimed Game Genie allowed gamers to create "unauthorized derivative content." Fortunately for Genesis owners, Sega gave Game Genie an official license. One of the coolest things they'd done at the time, IMO. Amusing, but it would suck to be in that position. Nintendo's stance on region locking with the Wii has been the most utterly backwards out of the 3. PS3 is region free for games, some 360 titles are, but every damn Wii title is region locked, and it treats GC titles that way too, of course. After DS, many thought Nintendo might loosen up. Fat chance, of course. So yeah, Nintendo screws PAL gamers as much as Sony or MS, but at least they often still have some relatively-easy importing options with those other two.

Covered that in my edit to my post, but I guess it wasn't too clearly visible. The update also warns it might brick a modded system, which is nice to at least inform you of. People using Wii-Key have reported it works fine after the update, though. I can't vouch one way or the other for Freeloader. Game Informer showed a Wii Action Replay was going to be released this month. Presumably with built-in freeloader support of some time. I guess back to the drawing board/tweaking period is in order.
