Yeah, only Evil Doink WASN'T lame. And he was over, too. I'd say "heel clown" is more appropriate. Clowns ARE inherently evil, after all. It was smart of the WWF to take advantage of that. The only problem is you don't have a natural face adversary for them. A face mime? Lame. A ring master? Naw, that'd never get over. Of course, there's always Homey the Clown. He could get over as a bad ass face.

"A: I've been to Germany and Scotland; a few different cities in Japan; all over Canada; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; Seoul, Korea …" There IS NO "KOREA!" *sigh*

Steven Richards was trying to use a vertical suplex as a finish. It was the same as a regular version except that he'd raise an arm before doing it. I don't think it actually ever finished anyone, though; correct me if I'm wrong. It's a shame he went to that after using the Stevie-T; I really liked that move.

Eh, I'll take a good Aliens flick over either of them. Except for that one Whedon was involved in *shudder* I'd have to agree that Star Wars has, or at least had, far more casual fans. It's really hard to get into Star Trek when they're mostly babbling sci fi jargon. Plus, the whole confinement of the space ships (lack of varied locales) loses interest with me. I have to admit as a kid I'd enjoy watching the classic Star Trek shows, and even then I was wondering why "this overacting asshole" was leading them and getting so much focus. The "turd" season at least had the "so bad it's good" quality, because the cheese on display was lovingly mockable if you weren't a Trekkie raving over what happened to a series you loved. Star Wars seemed to be a decent trilogy of movies, but I was never compelled to want to know any more than what I saw about them. I never cared to see a prequel or anything. Since Lucas is apparently churning out special-effects-laden crapfests like the rest of Hollywood, but relying on his past accomplishments for anyone to still have interest in it, I don't think I'll be checking any of those movies out. However, by sheer concentration I'd say Trekkies are nerdier, not that there's anything wrong with that.

Smackdown is so terrible these days that could only help. *sigh*

Naturally, Bret Hart will lead the invasion. *Shot*

Tenchi never really seemed that "stressed out" to me, but Kiyone seemed to be more easy to identify with. Tenchi was just some dope who happened to be the main character, and occasionally would fight. That's about it. Kiyone didn't get enough focus to really be a great character, but I never saw a reason to hate her or think of her as a "one dimensional bitch." On the other hand, Ryoko does show much more range--because she's practically the real star, so I should hope so for as much as she's focused on. And yes, Aika sucks, but I guess she's just supposed to be the stuck up rich-bitch the animators wanted to humiliate/embarrass/whatever, but it wasn't like you actually got a reason to care much about her. Haven't heard about Wolf's Rain, is that one starting on CN? No one mentioned Slayers yet. Basically it's a comedy series in a sword n' sorcery theme. It's generallly agreed that the different series (Slayers, Slayers NEXT, and Slayers TRY) are of varying quality, descending in order. Some of the humor gets really repetitive, with the same running gags being beaten into the ground ("Lina has small breasts! LOL!" *Dragon Slave* BOOM!), but sometimes it gets on a roll. The episode in NEXT where they go fishing is the funniest thing I've ever seen in an anime, bar none. I've seen part of TRY and all of NEXT, and I generally liked what I saw. TRY was pretty decent from what I saw, NEXT was pretty damn good (especially the recurring comedy relief/foil). Animation sometimes is superb and sometimes seems a bit lacking, but mostly pretty consistent (depends also on whether you're watching VHS or DVD). It's mostly goofy slapstick or bizaare episode plots that bring the laughs, tugged along by a main story that gets more serious at the end. I haven't seen the original series so I can't comment on it. Since I got the NEXT DVD set for 30 bucks used, I'll say I definitely got my money's worth. I don't know about springing for $130 if you can only get it new, though. Depends on how much disposable income ya got, so choose wisely. Anything on the original Slayers series...uh, ask some one else. I wouldn't know.

I disagree. The only ones I can stand are Sasami (who is like 8 years old and is more intelligent and mature than most of them, seemingly around for the pedophiles to lust after) and Kiyone (a smart, reasonable girl who is driven insane and has all of her career opportunities blown by her stupid bimbo partner). Ryoko--bitch. Aika--bitch. Mihoshi--walking blond joke. That girl that didn't exist--bland. Washu--don't care one way or the other.

Berserk's hero is some one who has been referred to as the anime version of Evil Dead's Ash. However, there's plenty of raping, killing, demons and other sunshiney stuff like that in there. What's that anime (I think it's just a movie or a really short series) with Gally the robot gal? It's pretty good, too. The name escapes me. I've heard Key the Metal Idol is good too, but I've never seen it. Plastic Little--well, it's good if you want to see bared breasts and nubile young women groping each other in various states of undress, but other than that don't expect much. Ah, the gems you run across renting whatever anime your local rental place has in stock. They also had a weird ass thing with some midget girl that featured a female nude fight scene. A lot of pervs apparently make anime (understatement, to be sure).

I thought... The TV series was him giving in to Instrumentality, and EoE was him refusing to? Regardless, I hate when an anime series ends with all sense breaking down and you not knowing what the hell is going on. That's one thing that ruined Outlaw Star's ending for me.

The OAO Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread
AndrewTS replied to DMann2003's topic in Television & Film
Don't get me wrong, I'll watch the least funny 15 minutes of the least funny MST3K ep out there before I'd watch a single full episode of "Friends," but that episode is rather light on laughs. When the single best part of an episode is footage pulled from other episodes, then I can't recommend it. Note to self: watch Wild Rebels again next chance you get. -
Hey, as long as he doesn't do another Aliens movie.

Orton/Shelton, Orton/Edge, Christian's Challenge
AndrewTS replied to Zack Malibu's topic in The WWE Folder
I wonder if they're ever going to have enough confidence in Benoit's drawing power to stick him in a main event without HHH or HBK in it. If they were to run a Benoit/Christian program, I don't believe it would close a PPV. Christian's just not good enough to warrant a main event push anyway, as far as I'm concerned. -
There's also two different endings. One is how the TV series ends. The other is End of Evangelion. EoE came out because of viewer outcry, bitching, and death threats. So basically there is a segment of anime fans in Japan who are far more sad and disturbed than even the worst stereotypes of American anime fans. There are actually scans of some of the death threat letters that were sent to Gainex for split seconds in one of the (EoE?) montages.

LMAO @ the MST3K reference. Hopefully Matt Hardy fares better than Hal Warren did in that film. Probably he will, but the Fifis are still very lucky they're on Smackdown.
-
I could be wrong, but when some one tries to rape a girl their priority isn't usually to stroke their hair or kiss them, right? Poor Kane. He's probably going to have to risk sticking his tongue in that mouth... However, Kane pulling the Torgo maneuver on the Thing Called Lita was hilarious. It's far better than her wrestling.

Does Probe still work under the Acclaim umbrella? They seemed like the only development house capable of making decent games.

I concor. Tens of thousands for a wig? Even more for a certain dress? Ugh. Celebrity excess pisses me off. I do not listen to music by this woman or watch her on TV, thankfully, so I don't care.
-
Indeed. Sadly, it's going to be for a mere million or so.

Well, then can we agree it sucks now? Because that's my point. Yes, basically I understood that much. ^ Also, you left out the whole evolutionary message which probably is much more lucid in the manga but is just one or two vague sentences in the movie. The "ending" is a mindf*** and a neat visual, but that doesn't make the movie itself good or any less confusing. It's basically a poor adaption of something that probably was good. TETSUUUUUO!!!!! Hey, I'm aware lots of people probably won't like it. However, it beats the hell out of most of the "mainstream" anime. From what I've seen of Ramna, it's extremely stupid as well. Also I dislike Reign and .hack. Yes, no, good BUT very iffy, yes. N.G.E. -- the further you get into it, the more alcohol you should consume with it. It isn't something I'd recommend to some one to try to get them into anime. Well, maybe, depending on what their taste was. Project A-Ko I wouldn't recommend, because to "get" it you have to be familiar, at least somewhat, with the anime it parodies. If you are though, it's a pretty neat poke at the various genres and the rampant cliches in it. Dominion: Tank Police seems decent enough, but I haven't seen enough to clearly judge it. Blue Seed: some people like it....I never bothered to watch much of it. Didn't grab me. Gunsmith Cats is pretty good for what is, which is basically an animated version of a buddy cop show. You know, the maker of it really seemed to be fascinated with guns and nifty cars...gee, I wonder why? 8-Man is pretty decent. Much less action than the original, but a snoozefest? Eh, I don't think so. Although I could see your point somewhat. Oh, certainly. It isn't as bad as preconceptions would have you believe, but it isn't as good as it's staunchest supporters would have you believe.

Humor me: what the hell kind of game could they possibly make out of them?

Disregard chaosrage's suggestion. He meant that as a joke. Did you like The Lion King? Then you'll probably like Kimba the White Lion, which it shamelessly ripped off. Pretty much anything Miyazaki is a safe bet. However, in the less family-oriented stuff, there's your Outlaw Star, Trigun, a friend recommended the Gungrave anime, and the fact no one mentioned Cowboy Bebop yet is a freakin' crime. Japan's animation industry is so huge, yeah, there's going to be tons of crap. Once you get past your DBZ, Digimon/Pokemon, Magical Girl anime, excessive giant robot anime (American men extend their small manhoods by buying a gun or an expensive car; Japanese men draw giant robots), stupid hentai and soft-core hentai-ish crap, maybe 5-10% of it is actually any good, kinda like here. Some one may mention Evangelion, but it's really an acquired taste, because of how screwed up it really is. I'd heard people recommend Patlabor, but despite the unique, if dry and lifeless, visual style, I've rarely been so bored out my skull as I had been watching it. Minutes upon minutes of driving footage with a little bit of dialogue...yuck. A lot of people really like Tenchi and may recommend one of the versions (there are about a billion different takes on the exact same story, because the makers have no imagination) to you enthusiastically. These people are idiots. However, if you don't want to bother collecting a whole series, there are good anime movies. I've heard Akira recommended. Please, stray far away. It sucks. First off, while some of the animation is good, the actual character design is so BUTT-ugly you're likely to be turned off. Plus, it makes no sense. The anime movie is basically a compression of an entire manga series. Now, you could easily compress an entire season/story arc of Dragon Ball Z in a "feature length" presentation and not miss a lick of the plot. However, in Akira it becomes a complete mess. Oh, and they added gratuitous breast shots to the movie, which is seen on one the horribly ugly animated girls in the feature. Supposedly the manga is good, but I wouldn't know it from the movie. Vampire Hunter D is excellent, as is the sequel, Bloodlust. Great visual style, music, pacing, story, characters (although D himself is rather enigmatic, some is revealed about him). Some people may recommend you get a taste of Tenchi with one of the movies. These people are huge idiots. These are actually worse than the anime series..es. Despite it's presence and the demons and the girliness, Inuyasha actually doesn't suck, however it isn't for everyone either. Samurai X / R. Kenshin is pretty good. Ninja Scroll (the movie) is considered pretty classic, however it has it's share of gore and disturbing stuff in it. The series I haven't seen much of. However, if you do decide to check it out stay the hell away from "Ninja Resurrection." It has a similar logo style, the main character is named the same, but it is basically a loathesome, uninteresting, disgusting mess. Stay far away from any anime movies based on fighting games, except for "Street Fighter II, the Animated Movie." It is a pretty fun one, actually, with great animation, a decent plot and a cool ending fight scene. Street Fighter Alpha's also decent, despite the vastly inferior art. The rest of the fighting game anime...STAY AWAY!! Tekken, Fatal Fury, Art of Fighting, the rest of the Street Fighter animes, Virtua Fighter, Toh Shin Den--they all lick balls. Some people may disagree with me. They may feel that "eat," "blow," "suck," or "are a mediocre effort, poorly executed merely to cash on a license." The plot line for 95% of fighting game anime: there are some robots created by some evil person that are trying to learn everyone's style.

I don't know about you, but as far as I could tell, with Long he drawing about as much heat than Orton pre-IC title win, and the whole act was pretty lifeless, limited, and D-Lo's ring work was the least interested I had seen from him in a while. Basically, I didn't care, you didn't care, the marks didn't care, and WWE didn't care. As they let D'Lo go they thought inserting a less skilled, less interesting, less black guy into the same roll would produce a far better result.

...man, Ric Flair sucks really bad now. Anyone want to get out the Chop Counter? I'm going to go make a Super Pretzel.

Harley Race is a bastard. Thanks to him, WWE never puts out those Stunt Grannies or Autograph Book Children anymore. THOSE were the aspects of professional wrestling that made it magical - and he RUINED it. I changed my mind, that's Post of the Night Heheh, well, I set it up, so that's cool with me.
