    El Gran was Paul London

Sadly, Paul London has a better chance of being pushed as El Gran than he does as himself.

Butt Plug: Simpsons Season One DVD Review

Maybe I'm wrong, but those were still primarily for children, which was what the biggest deal with the Simpsons was--it was much more sophisticated. Also, Flintstones is little more than a ripoff of The Honeymooners minus the threats of spousal abuse. Although, I didn't know about the time slot.

Butt Plug: Simpsons Season One DVD Review

"without 'The Simpsons', networks would still be oblivious to the fact that adults do indeed watch cartoons and are willing to watch cartoons that carry the same sensibilities and level of humor that other adult series have." Hell, most of the animated sitcoms smoke most of the regular sitcoms. *hates 'Friends.* "Fox, which was still struggling for that one big hit to elevate them to the same level as NBC, CBS, and ABC would still exist on the same lowly level that the WB Network and UPN both currently exist on at the bottom of the Network ladder. " Funny thing is, I think the Clerks animated series had a shot at being on UPN, but instead Smith went with NBC, I think (I could be wrong, though), and as a result they barely got a chance and were cancelled after about 3 episodes. UPN still doesn't have a great show to really propel it to the top, and a million identical sitcoms with a celebrity as a star doesn't really cut it. Also, aside from Rock Me Baby and Smackdown, there are practically no shows with white people in it on the network. "The Simpsons began in 1987 as a series of intestinal filler shorts for the Fox variety show “The Tracy Ullman Show”. The family consisted of dad Homer, mom Marge (who ironically was never referred to by her name in any of the Ullman shorts), the mischievous oldest child Bart, the pesky middle child Lisa, and the taciturn baby Maggie, who never spoke and simply made sucking sounds via her pacifier. " Beavis and Butthead started life in a similar way, oddly enough. "This episode also features a very famous continuity glitch in the series, as Mr. Burn's devoted personal assistant Waylon Smithers is introduced as a black man. Not wanting to feature an African-American character as a spineless man-servant, Smithers was soon made white in all future appearances." Did they keep him in his original appearance in the DVD? Also, at this point was it hinted at that he was gay (not this ep, but the season and in general)? --never mind, just noticed that in the Tell Tale Head synopsis. "One of the running themes in all thirteen commentaries is the fact that even though the episodes were demonized by critics for promoting lewd social behavior and teaching kids how to be insolent to adults when they first aired, the episodes in retrospect are extremely tame and almost sweet and endearing with their message of family love and support." Actually, even at the time I didn't see what the big deal was. Of course, my dad's quite a bit on the dim side as well, so it didn't seem too much different than my family. I find the episode guide most helpful--I had no idea so many of the episodes I loved to watch reruns of were season ones. The extras sound pretty good too. How is the animation on the Tracy Ullman shorts?

Okay, thanks for the confirmation on Reefer Madness. Some of the really classic Sci Fi eps aren't on DVD yet, but they put Hamlet and Boggy Creek II on there?! Very odd. Then again, they bothered to release Bloodlust and Hellcats on VHS AND DVD, and those are nearly unwatchable for me. Sidehackers has its moments, but the movie is so repulsive. I really hate Ross Hagan and Michael Pataki.

The OAO Mystery Science Theater 3000 Thread

Manos I forgot to put on my list, but even though I like it, a lot of other eps I think are better don't get as much love. Hired! Part 2 is fantastic, though. "When I started out, the first thing Harry drilled into me--" "--Was Harry!" "We're going to have leadership the way my old man taught me. YOU--wear a handkerchief on your head. YOU--swat at imaginary elves. YOU--rock on the porch all night!" "AHHH! Sid gets more sales because he's a shapeshifter." "Do you know that Chevrolet has a fabulous plan for your life?" "BUT HE BOUGHT THE FLIPPIN' CAR!!" "Adlai Stevenson buys a car..." "Good salesman...BAD salesman..." "Stay soft, pink and oily!" It's probably my 3rd favorite short on the show, after Mr. B Natural and Cheating. Hired Pt. 2, Chicken of Tommorrow and Robot Rumpus would make up the rest of it. However, I can understand why people like it. It's probably the most impressive work as far as taking a completely unwatchable movie and making it entertaining. I still think Monster A-Go-Go was also a great ep, and even more impressive a work. Manos has Torgo, MAGG has NOTHING. In the ACEG, Paul Chaplin calls it, officially, the worst one they've ever done. PsychoDriver: Sure that's MST3K Mike? I'd heard some one say it isn't the same Mike, but another Mike Nelson. Also, it's odd Mike used his real name, but Joel had his last name changed for his character. Hm.

Hey, looks great. Rampage didn't age so well, but World Tour is a cool update. Arch Rivals is in, which doesn't make up for the lack of NBA Jam T.E. but is still great. No real complaints about the list except for Shit Fighter being in. Do we have a release date set, yet?

Did Sakura make a typo and add an extra "I" to her RPG nomination? She seemed to make another typo, nominating Mario Kart 64--surely she meant Super Mario Kart, or Super Mario Kart Super Circuit. Action- Metal Slug X (PS1) (I haven't played 3 yet, so this stands for now) Adventure- Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (SNES) Driving- Konami Krazy Racers (GBA) Fighting- SNK vs. Capcom: Match of the Millenium (Neo Geo Pocket Color) Puzzle- Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo (GBA) Role-Playing- Phantasy Star IV (Genesis) Sports- Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 (N64) Strategy/Simulation- Shining Force (Genesis)

    WWE.com's 'The Finisher'

Some one thinks Linkin Park is "hard rock?" Good God.
  16. I agree. He's a better wrestler, his style is closer to what WWE wants, he's got a better physique than Jeff at this point, plus he's way cuter.
  17. Dames will own your ass when he returns. I hope not, when I read that post and that was one of the interps of the lyrics I died. Pure Gold! So, I sing that instead of the real lyrics every time now, think of it as an homage I'd like to take credit for that lyric, which I typed up on a Raw thread following an Evo beatdown on HBK.

    Will Fox Silence "The Simpsons"?

Okay, I didn't hear about that, but it isn't surprising seeing as how the final episode didn't really seem to have any finality to it. Although most sitcoms don't really require it, it can be a great way to give the cast and crew a nice send off.

It sounds like you're describing "Design for Dreaming," a GM-produced musical short mainly dealing with their cars, but also featuring a bunch of cartoonish "futuristic" gimmick kitchen appliances. The attractive short-haired lady in it was used as the basis for "Nuveena, Woman of the Future," a recurring host segment character played by Briget Jones (Mike Nelson's wife). It's on one of the shorts tapes, and is presented prior to the 12 to the Moon experiment, I think.

    Gamefaqs- Best. Game. Ever tourney

In regards to Snake Eater, he's being up front about the ambiguity. Also, it's far more than a "plot twist," it was an total lie. He could have been ambiguous about it leading up to the release, or just released screen shots never actually revealing Snake, or something to that effect. Didn't do it. Sorry, I don't find it clever or amusing, and if the character he replaced it with didn't suck so much, I wouldn't care. Hey, suit yourself. AndrewTS: stubborn, bull-headed, venom-spewing hater of "interactive" electronic entertainment. Hmm--anyone got a more concise, catchy title for that? Yeah, without it we might have to rely on gameplay. Can't have that, after all.
  23. Heh, misplaced blame as it is. Really, the smarks has nothing to do for those failures. Jones couldn't wrestle, didn't have the attitude necessary, and sounded like a moron on the mic. A-Train actually has drawn some decent heat when he was pushed, and his ring work isn't that bad for a big guy, but he gets the Billy Gunn treatment: quick push, pull the plug, reboot, retry, etc. They never had the faith in him they did Brock.

    Gamefaqs- Best. Game. Ever tourney

Hey, have I blatantly and deliberately lied about something like he did? Suuuure...it's easy to say that after the fact, but a lot in the game seems to indicate they at least left the door open for that possibility. Then again, maybe I'm wrong and thought it would be soooo funny to thrust players into the boots of that douchebag, and didn't have any future plans. Lord knows that Snake Eater isn't really the result of any "future plans." Oh yeah, it's a new creative direction, or something. Same exposition tool = Codec. Ah yes, that was buried within the Codec exposition as well. Sadly, all it did was make me think "I wish I was playing that game instead."
  25. I'd love to be there when he said that stuff. All you'd have to say was "Dude--you hired Nathan Jones."
