Yeah--I remember an opinion site was doing Ross Rip-orts all the time. It wasn't much more than a bunch of sugar-coated bullshit. Since it's cancellation, the closest we have is Linda McMahon responding to stockholders' questions.

Yeah, it would be great if some one turned Xenogears into a game. As opposed to whatever the hell you'd call it now. I'm thinking as for a full blown movie...oh wait, nevermind. There's already Evangelion. As for movie ideas, there's always the King of Fighters, but unfortunately there's too many characters unless you just focused on the Orochi stuff.

Oh, so they're going to rip off Ashton/Demi for a storyline?

Brand new WWE news and notes from the Observer

Now we got the 2 Kliq BUTT buddies at the booking meetings??No wonder nobody can't get over on RAW besides these two wadgobblers. Well, I admit that Raw last week was better than usual. Of course, I noticed Goldberg is getting punked out easier these days and booked to look weaker than he should. Name any other champ that was made to make Henry look like a title threat if you can think of any. -
Yeah--hell, Bret has long forgiven Goldberg for the kick. Owendriver '97 was even before that, and it didn't end Austin's career (though it could have).
-
You have no clue how long I have been waiting for someone to say this. I agree totally. Not to say that OVW guys could NEVER work. Paul London is definately proof of that, but the OVW/WWE style is very poor to say the least. Yeah, but with a few exceptions, basically everyone sucks that hasn't had outside experience. Of course, it isn't as if WWE is in the business of creating good wrestlers...

Got it. Not as knowledgeable about it though, so feel free to share info. Since there hasn't been a new Street Fighter game (the crossovers don't count) since SFIII: Third Strike, I don't see the complaint. Personally, I don't like the gameplay of Third Strike, or SFA3, though.

Damn right. I think Gunn would be better off with the "70's porn star 'stache" he was sporting as a Smoking Gunn. They might pair him with Venis though, if he did. If we have a villain for the Hurricane to feud with, he needs to twirl his beard/mustache eeeevilly. It's too bad Funaki might not be able to grow much facial hair, but if he can I think he'd look great with an EEEEEVIL goatee. Cole--grow the damn goatee back. You look like shit now. Yeah--one of the things that amazes me about Jericho is how fast his beard grows. He's so damn manly that in about a week he has a huge beard already. He's like the white Action Hank.

That, my friends, is why 3D fighters have been replacing 2D fighters. There's just no comparison with the depth of gameplay! Anyway, thanks for the link, Renegade. However, let's get to a more specific game. I've been playing the hell out of Capcom vs. SNK for the Dreamcast. You can't really pick A favorite character, since you usually need multiples. When I play competitively against friends, we usually do Pair Play mode anyways. The bud I play against the most's favorite characters are Iori and Terry--man, don't see those much, do you? Since I'll be playing against Iori--I think I'll take up Kyo for that purpose. He's got a lot of the same strengths, and I've been practicing as him. I've been trying to figure out the uses of his basics, throw range, basic combos and links, etc. I noticed his offensive crouch Heavy Kick is a two hitter that moves forward and knocks you back if you block. The neutral/defensive version looks like a normal low kick, but seems to work as a sweep. Any specific tips on the use of these/him? Also, is it me or does the game get easier with the "Original" music (a secret in the game) on? Maybe it's just because it gets me more pumped and the normal music sucks. Still, it's a crime to lock away that bitchin' Geese theme like that. Tips for MK: Jump kick until the opponent's dead--oh, wait, that's just for the CPU. My bad. Fireball fights: An essential part of most fighting games--although things are different in games where fireballs don't cancel each other out. Just as attacks have differing priorities, so do fireballs. Naturally, a super projectile will usually go through a normal projectile, AND hit your opponent. If you're playing Nightwarriors as Sasquatch, you'll find your snowball's a pretty lame projectile; throw it against a Demitri Chaos Flare, and while it will stop if, you can't gain any ground with it or use it to pressure Demitri, since his will always stop yours. In short, fireball fight with Sasquatch, and you will lose. Charge characters also have a difficult time, since they can't throw out fireballs as often as an opponent with a motion projectile. Know what moves/supers can counter a fireball or go through them.

Uh...but HHH is, while a member of Evolution, also transcends it. He is the Alpha and Omega, both member and leader, yet also above that as the supreme being in WWE. He can have a beard whenever he damn well pleases. It's like the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost thing.
-
They still haven't catered to the creepy furry people (no, the Albert push doesn't count) or done tentacle rape, and a few other weird fringe fetishes either, though.
-
"Brock Lesnar" He tried it. Since he has blond hair, it's virtually unnoticeable, and when you do notice it, it just looks goofy. Hogan had to dye his beard as a member of the nWo, but it didn't look so bad since it matched his outfit and doo-rag anyway. Except for HHH and Jericho, who look fine witho or without, I don't think there are any on that "should" list who really should. Although I could see them giving Batista one, that would make him look more like Goldberg.

Yet, you still misspelled it. I agree though. Unfortunately, I think we'll still see him every week. I don't get why it was such a big deal that HHH "returned" on Raw when it wasn't like he ever went away. -
Again, I repeat... "What's the point of a Steve Austin book when most of his fans can't read?"
-
Really. At least say you hate him because he never seems to get better despite a big push. Well, you could look at it that way, but take a look at the other guys on the Raw roster. Everyone either... 1) Sucks. 2) Has seen his best days long ago. 3) Is an OVW-produced (i.e. subpar) worker. 4) Lacks something major to deserve a push in the eyes of the guys in charge (for example, Jericho and his lack of size). Orton just happens to be 3, and is getting pushed anyway. It's not his fault and he shouldn't be hated for it.

I will forever weep if Chris Nowinski has to retire. Forever. NOOOOOOOOO!!! This sucks. He busts his ass in the independents after T.E., comes in with a good character, decent wrestling for a guy of his experience, and natural ability on the mic, and already his career may be cut short? Well, I hope maybe he can return in a non-wrestling role if this is true. I agree that the way things are stated in this report are very juvenile. At least they could try to fake some professionalism.

It isn't, though. The number of truly skilled players vs. unskilled/button mashers is surprisingly low. One roadblock to me truly getting lots of practice on a game is the sheer number of games out there. Tactics for a character also might differ heavily from the traditional SF, SF Alpha, Marvel vs. and vs. SNK titles, for instance. Jag0 attempting to play X-Men vs. SF etc. as a skilled player--that cracks me up. I usually play somewhat the same, but the game doesn't even take it seriously. I figured he'd be a KI player based on Killer Instinct, but didn't know about WM: T.A.C. I love that title and even got a PS just to play it, but didn't think it would fit in here. However, I'm pretty good on that one and can practically pull off the Super Combos in my sleep. More tactics: For pretty much any fighter, and definitely MK/SF, know your throwing range. This is especially pivotal in SFA3, where a missed throw slaps you with the heavy penalty of a missed throw animation like Zangief's command throws, and leaves you open to attack. Know your overhead. Nearly every character has an attack that goes over a low block, or some move which can punish turtlers. I think in general the addition of overhead attacks has drastically cut down on turtling, but there's still some laggards, and less-skilled players might have difficulty dealing with it. Ryu can peck away with low shorts, and if blocked, can throw an opponent if in range. Zangief is also heavily reliant on these kinds of tactics, like with the double knee drop. I've heard about using fake-outs before--similarly, Charlie/Guile's crouching Fierce and similar moves can be used to fake out someone into thinking they are no longer charging the Flash Kick, then you can punish them when they jump. Ryu also has a full-blown fireball fake complete with animation in Alpha 2 and 3. Ken has a roll fake. In games with dashes like the Darkstalkers, charge back, and then dashing forward slightly can act as a fake out depending on the character. Hunter Chains (or Chain Combos) don't require special timing--tap the buttons all in sequence and they will come out. If the enemy blocks, you might be just knocked away, but the enemy may have time to counter. Don't jump in all the time, especially if you aren't in attack range. Besides there being far too many ways to counter air attacks, you usually have a good attack that provides frontal coverage. For example, Zangief's Jab Banishing Flat can provide great frontal coverage against Ryu's fireballs AND build up your Super Meter for that F.A.B. of doom! What Level...? In the games with multi-tier supers, like the Alpha games, make certain that using a level one or two super is worth it. Often times, the best "bang for your buck" is level one, and other times it might be the other levels. For Zangief, a Level 3 Final Atomic Buster is worth waiting for, although there's the ever-present danger of whiffing it and losing your whole meter. Practice to learn the level damages and what super is most worth the energy. Get your priorities... Know what moves have priority over others. As deadly as super moves might be, they aren't terribly useful if you can be knocked out of them with a jab punch, like Bison's Knee Press Slightly-Unpleasant-Dream. Although, generally you don't want to fuck with the Psycho Crusher (Alpha games), although I've lucked out and traded hits with it sometimes. If you throw out an air attack against the Crusher, it has to be after activation to have a chance in hell of stopping it. Bison's Skull Diver has priority over Rose's Soul Throw. I'm very damn sure of that. I think the super version can snuff it out, though. Priorities also differ with super levels. Birdie's Level 3 headbutt super goes through fireballs at Level 3. Hell, generally the Level 1 and 2 ones are useless outside of a combo since even the computer Alpha Counters it heavily. Birdie suffers in Alpha 2 due to most of his moves' crappy recovery time. His Fierce is extremely deadly because of its damage, priority, and range, and his forward sweep seems to be hard to Alpha Counter. I have difficulty chosing a favorite character, though. I don't like to stick with one character, plus there's often a weakness in my gameplay using one character I'm not familiar with. The grappling giants I usually have difficulty comboing with, or my readying for a super is too predictable. With Rose I get too antsy to Soul Throw and end up paying for it. I avoid Shotos because, although I know that they are generally good characters, I think of them as too overused--particularly by scrubs. I have difficulty incorporating charge supers into a combo, although when I deliberately try I often can pull it off.

Read the sig--why is this concept so hard for people to grasp?
-
If they really decided to do it, I don't think I want to see it anyway the way it would be booked. Angle will reveal he's an obsessive masturbator and Benoit would reveal he has sex with robots.
-
A worker up at EB was going on about how good the game is, and a friend of mine is interested as a result. Licensed titles usually make a lot of older players wary, but Disney movies have a surprising number of high-quality video games to match.
-
I was planning to throw that in, but figured it would be TOO common knowledge. In fact, most special attacks have good uses for each attack strength. For example, crappy ol' Dan's short Gale Kick can go over projectiles. Attacks done with short/jab usually have lessened recovery time. The short Flash Kick has the best risk/reward ratio for use as an air counter. Plus, some fighting games have a minor glitch that if you follow a slow projectile in, they'll walk forward and hit it. Don't worry about using special attacks all the time. The basic attack moves are there for a reason--they usually have special purposes. For example, Zangief's jab is a chop that takes about as much damage as a more powerful attack from a weaker character, and works great as an air counter.
-
That sounds reasonable enough. Although that's assuming that HHH is really committed to helping him get over and puts some decent effort into the match. He'd of course be controlling the match and would try to help him look good in such a case. Yet, as soon as Orton faced someone other than HBK/Jericho/Trips, he'd be exposed. So, except for tag matches, I don't expect matches with him in it to be too interesting. Brock also showed some natural charisma and the ability to impress fans with good matches and some cool spots. Plus, Heyman was a great heat magnet who helped him get over majorly as a face after he turned on Brock. Orton isn't as good as Brock, doesn't have the amateur background, or freakish strength. He had a funny character that was killed dead when he joined Evolution. He has some decent mic skills, to his credit, at least. However, he almost never uses them. That's probably the most boneheaded thing about his push to me. He shows that he's somewhat comfortable and entertaining behind the mic, but when they push him they give him next to no mic time. Hell, almost none of the wrestlers get mic time because that time is usually wasted focusing on authority figure bullshit. The marks aren't as wrestling-centric in their enjoyment of the program, but they WANT to see matches with characters they are interested in. Yet, if the wrestlers get no mic time and no other real way to develop their characters, they're just wrestlers. Orton's just some kid who goes out and hangs around with Trips and Flair while JR verbally fellates him. That's not a real character. Someone suggested that if his character was made out to be a cocky, undeserving prick living off trust funds, he conveyed that in promos, and the announcers put him over as that, he'd be doing a hell of a lot better.

The ONE and ONLY SmackDown! Thread 10-23-03

I hate it. Get the fucking Torrie out. -
HHH will NEVER dump or screw over Steph. BUT, Steph could start thinking she could do better than HHH. She probably looks at Ric Flair and figures HHH will end up like that some day. I don't think so. HHH will probably end up more along the lines of Superstar Billy Graham--but at least he'll be provided for.

Was this really necessary? Anglesault was going to go and make this thread after SD anyway, and probably still will.
